We’ve had 1 but a friend in another area has had loads. Hope we haven’t bought way too many sweets

Sadly no, they don't want to come all the way down to us just for one house. My children have always wished we could hand them out. We do have pumpkins lit though on the unlikely off chance.

MayISuggestSomeThickCutSteakChipsToGoWithThat · 31/10/2022 19:38

I'm not sure how many cos I'm working, but I did put a tub outside individual bags filled with treats and some flat oranges made to look like pumpkins. Drove by earlier and only one bag and orange is left in there now

PopGoesTheProsecco · 31/10/2022 19:39

I don't disagree.

Moonflower12 · 31/10/2022 19:39

Our village goes all out for Halloween.
There have been crowds of children who all meet up and knock the houses with pumpkins with the parents all chatting and trailing behind.

cheninblanc · 31/10/2022 19:41

Lots only got a few sweets left now and brought all decorations in as the little ones will have been by now

PopGoesTheProsecco · 31/10/2022 19:42

Sorry meant to tag you in. I don't disagree @Hungrycaterpillarsmummy.

creamwitheverything · 31/10/2022 19:47

67 up to press! I have been up and down like a toilet seat! I am knackered but its been fantastic seeing so many people out in rubbish weather

Eukanuba · 31/10/2022 19:48

None , DH is eyeing up the fun size malteasers , pouring down here too

FlakeySalt · 31/10/2022 19:51

Think we’re about done for the night here.

Had 8 groups, all polite and lovely and good fun. My only slight disappointment is that we didn’t get any very young children- @Ifionlyknewthenwhatiknownow3 ’s story about the reverse TorTer is just the cutest.

All of our callers were tweens and younger teens. Very polite and chatty, said their thank yous and took what they were given with a smile. It’s a rural area, no street lights or footpaths so lots were driven around.

Yes two lots both absolutely adorable and beautiful manners. Makes me wish kids did carol singing these days. Although I’d be balling on the doorstep, can’t take kids singing since I became a mum.

Kids singing " little donkey" has always made me cry, even before being a mum.
kids so cute and beautiful manners so far, even the tweens.

riotlady · 31/10/2022 19:54

Lots! Had to do an emergency run to the corner shop as we ran out and DD was having a whale of a time handing them out. This is our first Halloween in this house and our old one didn't get many, so now we know for next year.

LondonQueen · 31/10/2022 19:58

Yes, only the village children thankfully. I've turned the lights out and shut the gates now so it looks like we're not in!

I6344 · 31/10/2022 20:00

We've only had three teenage lads knock but our house is a bit hidden. I was gutted as this is the first year I've lived somewhere that has trick or treaters. I even made DH go outside and knock on the door so I could give him some sweets 🤣. Off to bed now as I'm up at 5 so hopefully no one knocks when I'm settled but I will be ignoring them if they do

MajorCarolDanvers · 31/10/2022 20:01

Our estate is like the Halloween scene from ET. Hundreds of kids out and all the houses decorated.

It's tapering off now.

🎃👻💀🧹🧙‍♀️

Happy Halloween

ShowOfHands · 31/10/2022 20:02

We've had around 50 children. We are in a village and trick or treating is very popular here. The local pub has a scary maze set up and the village shop is playing Halloween disco music and projecting a light show. It's quite lovely actually.

Chickenpeppers · 31/10/2022 20:05

Absolutely none, it's raining really heavy here, even the excessively decorated house over the road hasn't had anyone

torthecatlady · 31/10/2022 20:07

Having a second wind now. I'll give it another 10 minutes and call it a night I think.

Thatsshallot1967 · 31/10/2022 20:10

About 8-10 groups which was a surprise given the rain.

I got DS 19 to bring in the Halloween pumpkin and decorations early so we'd get no more knocking and I could scoff the rest of the choccies. Feeling utterly ashamed of myself.

Abraxan · 31/10/2022 20:25

Once 6pm hit we had loads.
I had around 250 sweets, lollies, chocolates and all went by about 7:15. We often have two of three big groups all arrive together.

All polite, all good natured - and since taking the pumpkin in and turning off the lights, no more knocks. Lovely.

Abraxan · 31/10/2022 20:26

Almost hammered down with rain for most of it in the end. They definitely should have come out as soon as it got dark - it was dry then!

Abraxan · 31/10/2022 20:29

Catslovepies · 31/10/2022 18:16

What time does it usually finish? We have a Ukranian family staying with us and I need to advise them as they don't really have Halloween back home. I think they could trick or treat up to around 8 or even 9pm at a push...what do you think (I can't remember from previous years)?

We'd run out of sweets (and had about 250 sweets, lollies and mini chocolates) by just after 7pm, so if they go out late they may be disappointed.

Not heard anyone wandering around outside since 8pm here.

PopGoesTheProsecco · 31/10/2022 19:13

Hundreds - and that's no exaggeration. We live on a housing estate in a village and it's almost locally 'famous' for Halloween. People actually drive across town to our estate for Halloween (you can tell as the usually empty entrance road to the estate has cars parked up on both sides). We spent £40 on sweets - big bags of individual sweets (Moams, lollies etc) and big bags containing 60 little Haribos packets. We ran out by about 6.30pm. There were often queues of kids at the door. Huge groups of kids!

Sounds like our estate. You see cards and minivans drive up and park in the small visitors car park near the play park area, and on the roads too. Big groups.

I've given out over 250 sweets/chocolates this evening.

BettyOBarley · 31/10/2022 20:36

Everyone came earlier this year, we'd given out our 150 sweets by 6.30pm - job done!
No one came after that, but it did start raining at about 7.
I think after 8pm is too late personally, I wouldn't be answering the door then.

Loics · 31/10/2022 20:38

None, one of the perks of being rural. 😁

ofwarren · 31/10/2022 20:38

Just had someone knocking now, in the pouring down rain..
I didn't answer the door, so they went to the side door!
Can hear its an adult with children.
Taking the piss knocking at this time and on two different doors I think.
