Help! Nowhere to park!

I know someone will come along and tell me I need to move to a house with it's own parking space, but those are few and far between and way out of my budget where I live! I've lived in my house for 6 months and never had this happen. I can't park! I have a 4 year old asleep in the car and I can't find anywhere within my permit zone to park. I've never seen it so busy. I'm currently sat in my car on double yellows in the hope that someone will move but at this time of night it's unlikely. What do I do? Pay for overnight parking and get a taxi? Can't really afford that but might have to. I could cry right now. I'm so stressed out. Been driving round the permit zone intermittently in the hope that someone will move for the last 45 mins but no joy.

Glad you managed to sort it out.

Oh come on, it was a ludicrous post. There is literally zero probability that there would not be a meter, single-yellow line or another sort of bay that was available at that time on a Sunday evening. It was utterly implausible from the start, as your obvious solution showed.

“Utterly implausible”…

do you even know what that word means @Intru ?

People’s lived experience can be beyond what you have experienced .

Therefore it’s plausible to us who have lived in city centres and know just how scarce parking is when everyone is parked up on a Sunday night awaiting the start of the week. But implausible to you who want to have a dig at an OP.

Ludicrous? How dramatic. I was stressed out and needed to vent as have had a long day and this just topped it off. You could literally have just ignored my post if you thought it so preposterous.

I'm glad to hear you sorted it - it sounds worrying and stressful. I'm astonished that some of the replies you've had have been so unpleasant.

Going to leave this thread now as it has just left me feeling even more shite about my financial and housing situation. I know they're only daft comments by strangers who feel brave on the Internet, but when I stress every month about how I'll keep my house and car running it does cut a little. Life is hard for a lot of people at the moment and mental health issues are at an all time high, we gotta remember this! Thank you for those who were kind enough to realise I just needed a moment to calm and think clearly. Happy Halloween for tomorrow. Time to crawl into bed...

Don't let them upset you. Just be thankful you don't have to wake up next to them and get some rest sweetie! Glad you got it sorted xx

Thistooshallpsss · 30/10/2022 22:55

Glad you have managed to get home and I’m sorry life is so tough for you and many other people right now. Hope you sleep well tonight.

Whiskeypowers · 30/10/2022 22:55

Glad you’re home

scarletisjustred · 30/10/2022 22:56

Some people are just being nasty and doubling down on being nasty and if anybody was being unreasonable..... If somebody doesn't think a post is plausible I understand that they are meant to report it. Otherwise, there is this amazing thing on that you can do with the little x on your screen - just hover the cursor over it and hit it. Pleased you are home OP.

What is wrong with you Confused

pinkstripeycat · 30/10/2022 22:59

If you are a single parent Gingerbread might be able to help you financially in some way

PriamFarrl · 30/10/2022 23:00

I’ve had the exact same situation before, OP. We were permit parking near the town centre. I got home one evening after work and I couldn’t park within 2 miles of my house. The problem was that there was a theatre near by and the permit parking only ran until 6pm so people would park in the permit zones for the theatre.

I stopped on double yellow lines near my street and waited until the show ended and someone left. I cried too. All I wanted was to get home and have a cup of tea.

I can’t believe other people have been so mean to you here. I completely believe the situation, I had similar in another town as well. Some people can’t imagine a life outside their own.

Ludo19 · 30/10/2022 23:00

Glad you got home safe.

Clymene · 30/10/2022 23:00

Glad you and your baby are home safely. I totally get the stress as I lived in a similar situation with babies. It's horrible.

Apileofballyhoo · 30/10/2022 23:02

Glad you got home and found somewhere to park. Also think some of the comments you've received are very odd!

Yeah I found it quite bizarre too!

CarPoor · 30/10/2022 23:11

Some people are just so deeply unhappy with their lives they use AIBU to be nasty to others as their hobby because they can't make themselves feel good in real life

Don't feel bad OP. You clearly were stressed and just wanted someone to talk it through with, that's normal. I'm glad you found a solution and are now safe! I'm not sure why some posters seem to find a minor parking thread so deeply traumatic but don't take any notice of it

CarPoor · 30/10/2022 23:12

Badgirlriri · 30/10/2022 23:07

Have you never got in a panic or wound yourself up about anything? Or witnessed this happen

Its really not that odd or bizarre.

Of course. But my first thought wouldn’t be to come on mumsnet and post about it.

Also, I live in a city centre, and it’s not possible for there not to be any kind of parking for TWO MILES. Even when I’ve driven into London at night I can find on street parking where restrictions don’t start until 8am or whatever.

As her subsequent post has shown, there clearly was parking available.

And no, of course I’ve not panicked about having to spend a few minutes finding a parking space.

Exactly. We’ve a home in London, and whether parking there, or going out at night it’s just not plausible that there is no parking within a couple of hundred meters on a Sunday evening.

The OP’s now even admitted herself that there was some, yet some contrary posters are banging on about how her original yarn was believable.

Krabapple · 30/10/2022 23:24

Glad you are home okay. Ignore the nasty comments - there are some vile people on aibu who like to make themselves bell better by slagging others off .
