To not understand the nastiness that being a housewife provokes

1000 replies

AMorningstar · 30/10/2022 17:43

Not just on MN. I don't even use MN that often but I see this on other social media websites too. If a woman shares something positive about being a housewife it's full of comments about how "being controlled by a man, couldn't be me!" "No thanks, I love my independence" or "just wait until he leaves you, then what". If a woman shares something negative about it its "see, this is why being a housewife is TERRIBLE" (yet no one would say "this is why having a career is terrible!" If a person was complaining about their job)

I saw someone earlier say they'd be devastated if their daughter wanted to be a SAHM.

Why does it provoke such vitriol? Other women choosing this doesn't force anyone else to, I don't get the complete lack of respect for people's decisions and lack of understanding that different people enjoy different things.

Making stuff up about me again because it upsets you that some women have decent husbands and good lives. I've shown him this thread and he thinks you lot are hilarious. 🤣

So now you’re distracting him from his house work.

The more you write, the more you come across as a lonely cat lady who shouts at people out the window when they pass the house. Come on admit it. You’re a fantasist. Even if you don’t have any cats.

Umm, I don’t think anyone here is going to be quelled into silence because your husband is apparently laughing at them.

Topgub · 31/10/2022 10:29

@AMorningstar

In all honesty what were you hoping to achieve from this thread?

Why did the idea that others would be devastated (I didn't see the post, so not sure how accurate it is) if their child was a sahm upset you so much?

You're so far off the mark it's hilarious. You won't rattle me, because no matter what accusation you throw, it won't change my reality. Cope and seethe.

I'm not upset by it lol. I think it shows the pathetic nature of some other women, which is why I've never liked many of you. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Ahhh, the actual man hating comes out now and the mask gets dropped. Pathetic lmao.

What?

Now you're really being ridiculous.

AMorningstar · 31/10/2022 10:24

Now where did I say that?

"Focus on the physical side of the relationship."

So what else would it mean?

Bore off, go and be bitter somewhere else.

I wonder how OP is going to resist the urge to start a continuation thread. She will have withdrawal symptoms, if not. Let’s see. This should be entertaining.

But you've just accused me of hating men?

And your op is all about women supporting women and not criticising them.

I dont think it's my mask that has dropped.

How embarrassing

AMorningstar · 31/10/2022 10:26

Then why don't you criticise the people who've fired abuse at me? Why only one way?

I’ve made a couple of wide statements on your thread whereby I say I believe women shouldn’t put themselves against each other ever, whether they work or not (I am vocal about this viewpoint in relation to all things women choose and are routinely attacked for). That encompasses everyone doing so, you and those you feel are being abusive to you. Just stop trying to cause fight where there needn’t be a fight, society makes things hard enough as it is.

"Focus on the physical side of the relationship."

I said it was an advantage and leads to happier relationships. Not that it's the sole reason to give up work

Now where did I say that?

Here!

But I'll try to summarise it as less stress and more time to dedicate to the relationship in multiple ways including physically

Apparently unemployed women have happier relationships because they have more time to dedicate to their husbands physically! And you wonder why some working women are feeling offended/ provoked?

Women should support other women - but if other women insist know being bitter jealous weirdos, they're not going to get my support. Go find another SAHM thread to whinge on

You do seem a bit upset in the tone of your posts. I don’t think this is helping anyone. All it is doing is showing that women are women’s own worst enemy. Fucking depressing.

cagliari · 31/10/2022 10:35

I like the OP, I am not under 30. I've been around long enough to see bullies for what they are. This thread is a goady pile on by the usual suspects and it STINKS.

Aha! There is it. You are a misogynist OP. 😢. You might want to do some self reflection before criticising others for putting down women.

Topgub · 31/10/2022 10:38

@AMorningstar

I have nothing to be bitter or jealous about.

It's a shame you can't defend your position without resorting to the thing you claim to dislike.

It's either because you can't actually defend wanting to be a housewife or because you lack the skills to articulate your point.

Thank you. As usual, bullies are happy flinging insults but cry and complain if someone claps back.

Not a misogynist. Unfortunately the behaviour of many women is disappointing and this thread perfectly illustrates it

"OP is a perfect example of ‘lady doth protest too much’."

Well it's her thread? And she is protesting yes.

Is the irony of 'protest too much' really lost on people who know no SAHMs in real life, claim it is ABSOLUTELY DISASTROUS and are in frenzied pearl clutching mode at the mere thought of their daughter ever wanting to look after her own children rather than using childcare. Heaven forbid such a thing should be allowed!

If you're not SAHMs, why are you even on here at all?

I agree.

I also think OPs being quite tongue-in-cheek and enjoying the discussion Grin. Hence I stopped taking it seriously.

Multitasking though; daytime TV whilst Mumsnetting. Impressive!
