To think not everything is ‘misogyny’

Cuppasoupmonster · 29/10/2022 16:11

… and that the word is massively overused on here?

I’m getting quite tired of it if I’m honest, it feels like every other conversation the ‘misogyny’ card is whipped out and anyone who disagrees has ‘internalised misogyny’ (um no I just have a different opinion).

It’s becoming the ‘BeKind’ of feminism. Overused to the point it’s getting meaningless and irritating, and just used to ‘win’ any kind of nuanced topic without any proper discussion.

AIBU? 🤷🏼‍♀️

If you say that the rate is high and more provision is needed, better education and that we should look at empowering women to use less invasive methods, great.

If you judge women, blame them, assume equal access, and want to restrict abortion, misogyny.

Devil's in the detail.

Where did I say I want to restrict abortion? This is the sort of extrapolative hysteria that exists whenever anyone says anything that isn’t ‘MISOGYNY’. I had a termination as a teen; I’m pro choice.

While some of the 200,000+ abortions a year will be down to this, I’m willing to bet most are due to being careless with contraception, and if abortion wasn’t there women would be more careful in general about making sure they’re protected.

I don’t think this is ‘misogynistic’ to say, nor is it misogyny to point out female contraceptive methods are numerous, free and highly effective. Male contraceptives are not.

Your example is indeed a classic case of misogyny in action OP.

Sux2buthen · 29/10/2022 16:26

If a woman on here has a different opinion to others it's not her own opinion it's 'internalised misogyny'Grin

Actually id say a huge number, at least 90%, or pregnancies are a result of men ejaculating into women.

🙄

This is what I mean, it’s nuts! There will be pregnancies out there which are a result of rape/control, but there will also be a lot of pregnancies where the woman has assured the man she is on contraception and either isn’t or ‘forgets to take it now and then’.

I will be shouted down for even saying that.

YABU

Why don't men pluck their eyebrows, shave their legs and use fake tan?

Why don't parents fight to get their boys into nursing school?

Why are men not told not to go out at night by themselves in case they get raped?

There's no other word for it OP and it is all around you like a fish swimming in water, denying the existence of water

That word is sexism

not misogyny

so many on here really struggle with words

Nope. Most things are misogyny.

I think if you lead a relatively safe and normal life, you don't often get to see exactly how much men hate us, and how institutional structures are stacked against us.

Exactly, “normal life”.

Most people lead normal lives.

Sadly some of you haven’t led a “normal life” and refuse to believe misogyny doesn’t exist everywhere and believe all men are abusive monsters.

Yes because you are blaming women for getting pregnant. Youve even saying women trick men into pregnancies.

You do know that it takes 2 to produce a pregnancy? Men are perfectly capable of using a condom, having a vasectomy or even, horror or horrors, just not having sex.

FlorettaB · 29/10/2022 16:30

I ‘m more concerned about all these careless men, ejaculating into vaginas without using condoms. I mean, if they just used condoms we wouldn’t have so many abortions.

But she’s the one who (rightly) has the say over whether a pregnancy is continued. Should we just throw the pill away, have unprotected sex with every partner then just blame them when we get pregnant?

but there will also be a lot of pregnancies where the woman has assured the man she is on contraception and either isn’t or ‘forgets to take it now and then’.

Why is it the women's responsibility to be solely in charge of contraception?
Shouldn't individuals manage their own or do you believe men don't have to because they are men?

JulesCobb · 29/10/2022 16:28

If you’re going to debate the existence or lack of misogyny, at least stop arguing like a teenager.

if abortion wasn’t there women would be more careful in general about making sure they’re protected

So you'd like to restrict it to teach women a lesson but that isn't misogyny.

FWIW BOTH my DGM and my DM got pregnant outside marriage in eras and places with no legal, available abortion. Women didn't magically start shagging when abortion was invented. I grew up with safe, legal abortion and I had my first baby when married.

TL:DR you're talking shite.

nothingcomestonothing · 29/10/2022 16:33

Wow.

Cuppasoupmonster · 29/10/2022 16:34

This lack of nuance and desperation to put men on the hook for everything, is actually holding us back in my opinion. It makes women look like children, unable to take responsibility for anything and instead delegate the blame for their actions to their ‘responsible adult’ (men).

I definitely believe ‘misogyny’ is responsible for a lot of things, but not everything.

Lol.

Moans about overuse of mysoginy then posts mysoginist shite.

Blaming women who live in a patriarchal society for 'high' abortion rates because free contraception is available while completely ignoring the fault of men is mysoginy.
