To be annoyed at Prince Harry's memoir title SPARE

I have zero interest in this couple who seem to enjoy making a living on moaning about how they are poorly treated in Britain. Just saw the headline news and the cover of Harry's memoir with his face and one single word SPARE.

Get a life for goodness sake. I'm about his age and never once thought of him as a spare. He kinda invented his own tale.

I also thought it was funny - what if it's actually a humourous tongue in cheek memoir...

Thought he wanted to stay out of the limelight?

ParkheadParadise · 27/10/2022 21:33

If I thought his book would bring down the RF and the whole lot of them would FUCK OFF
I would be tempted to buy it 🤣

I don't think there's resentment towards Harry, just a feeling that he needs to move forward with his life and that all this drip feeding of allegations against his own family are negative for all concerned.I think most people would love to see him settled and happy but he certainly doesn't seem happy.

But we know that it’s not that clear cut. The past, present and future is interlinked… and time is relative too. The nature of trauma is that it stays with a person, which explains why it may have been cathartic to write about.

"You can't connect the dots looking forward," Steve Jobs said. "You can only connect them looking backward.”

Harry connected the dots and now he’s presenting it to the world.

We’re just not used to royals behaving like this. That’s all.

On the whole, Brits approve of the Royal Family and no longer like Harry, so probably not.

EsmaCannonball · 27/10/2022 21:41

Perhaps there's been a major printing cock-up and the title was meant to be: SPARSE. It would explain the photograph.

honeybeetheoneandonly · 27/10/2022 20:30

Well, Ann was never in line of the throne with some male heirs around, so Andrew was the spare. Yep, totally normal person. No issues there....

I think the problem with Andrew that he was spoiled. He was never groomed with an eye to being a potential monarch. I think that has happened with Harry too. It may have been worse with Harry after his mother’s death with the family feeling sorry for him and therefore being over indulgent.

Nobody will have to buy it, it will be all over the news/internet

If extracts are over the news and internet that would suggest the publishers will be selling extracts to boost revenues and gain publicity. Copyright laws, remember.

Critics will buy it… where else are they going to get their ammunition from?!

he's grown up in a gilded cage.. privilege doesn't make for a happy life, or prevent you from hating every moment of it.

spare is a good title.

Why not leave the cage then? Go off with hisn

Why not leave the cage then? He couldngonoff with this wife to a small cottage in the south of France, or somewhere in the UK, or even USA and live peacefully out of the limelight for the rest of life. He could almost live relatively normally and freely.

But he's chosen to live in celeb land,

nightbulb · 27/10/2022 21:55

@Owlcation are you usually so patronising? Judging by past performances I’m quite sure that if something ginger and whinger said was misrepresented then either their unbearable sycophantic mouthpiece or their lawyer would have made it known. I’ve no intention of giving them viewing numbers or buying their book (not his book).

Ludo19 · 27/10/2022 21:55

Allegedly that's what Charles said to Diana after Harry's birth, something about an heir and a spare.
I don't feel sorry for him. His interview with Oprah was appalling.
He forgets when he dressed as a nazi, abused his polo ponies and played pool in the scud was all supported by and in part covered up by his family who he then chose to Imply all their wrongdoings.
I'm sick of Diana being painted as some sort of fuckin martyr too.

I thought he hated the media. Clearly he loves it all 🙆🤷

BringBackCoffeeCreams · 27/10/2022 22:01

I think it's reflective of the source of his issues. He is the spare. Ever since the monarchy existed younger brothers have struggled with their lesser position. A few hundred years ago he could have just killed his brother and taken the crown for himself. Nowadays he has to content himself with sniping from the sidelines

Although I do have some limited sympathy as it is hard growing up knowing that no matter what you do you will always be second fiddle to your sibling.

Brits do approve of the royal family, on the whole. Including when the royal family parade an Indian diamond taken at the expense of a child who has been forcibly separated from his Queen Mother. Brits generally don’t agree with criticising the royal family for this controversial (but true) history. Brits approving doesn’t mean their approval is righteous, wise and just.

Blind sycophancy is not good. Look where that has got Britain in post-Brexit trade deal negotiations with India.

It will be a diplomatic fiasco if Queen Camila wears Kohinoor at King Charles's coronation

Maybe the similar thing has happened with Harry. The blind sycophancy has led to people not noticing that Harry may have been suffering beneath the rosy surface.

Diverseopinions · 27/10/2022 22:24

If Harry had had two younger brothers, would he still have felt bitter? The younger ones all would have been spares.

Anyway, it's a ridiculous notion, 'spare', as it's not really likely that something horrible will happen to the heir. Surely, it's worse for William knowing that his family were really seriously considering the potentiality of having to have another to take on the crown...because being royal, and famous attracts unhappy individuals to stalk you.

Obviously, Harry could have framed his life as having all of the perks, fewer of the risks and no responsibility, but he's got some jealousies there, it seems. When posters have asked whether anybody has met Harry, those who have, relate him drinking; laughing; being feted; having a whale of a time; being recognised; causing awe-strike; being loved; being catered to; having girls want to date him; having privilege; having money; having protectors; having prestige.

He's obviously good at switching off from his woes, if these onlookers are correct in their observations, which they obviously are.

TheKeatingFive · 27/10/2022 22:27

Pissing myself at the idea that this won't sell. 😂

wherearebeefandonioncrisps · 27/10/2022 22:29

I don't understand why he's doing this , given that he's said that he and his family want to be left alone. Surely this is going to focus even more attention on them?

It'll definitely sell. Like hot cakes. But it won't bring down the monarchy.

Harry makes a very good living as a professional victim. Life is hard for him living in his mansion off the few million quid his mean old dad gave him.

The bulk of his fortune came from his mother, I believe.

onlythreenow · 27/10/2022 22:43

I couldn't care less what he calls his silly little book. He's a whiney, boring, self-important little boy and I suspect the book is not going to be the blockbuster he seems to think.

e11even · 27/10/2022 22:46

Cracks me up when people say they have "zero interest" in the couple but then go on to rant about the couple. Lol.

Diverseopinions · 27/10/2022 22:58

People talk about the Royals as though they have to do these convoluting things to survive. I think if Harry has gone to Scotland with the family, or stayed in the wilds of Canada, they would have been forgotten, somewhat by now, and they wouldn't have needed a big security brief, which costs millions annually, and which forces them to take the tainted coin, you could say, by accepting a book advance knowing, secretly knowing, they'd be expected to spew royal secrets for the pay back.

It's like the old woman who swallowed a fly, if you build that high profile, you have the security costs, and need to cover those, and they aren't super rich enough to be able to sustain that level of private-island type privacy. Then again, you have to keep your profile raised to get the credibility and profile to sell your first book, so everyone will want to publish your next book. So, it's like going from Spare to Hype.

ShakeYourFeathers · 27/10/2022 23:45

I think it's a great title. Who else is going to name a book tile Spare!

I have zero problem with Harry and Meghan. I hope they're happy raising their little kids and carving out the life they want together.
