To be annoyed at Prince Harry's memoir title SPARE

benisright · 27/10/2022 13:25

I have zero interest in this couple who seem to enjoy making a living on moaning about how they are poorly treated in Britain. Just saw the headline news and the cover of Harry's memoir with his face and one single word SPARE.

Get a life for goodness sake. I'm about his age and never once thought of him as a spare. He kinda invented his own tale.

Harry was such an admirable, likeable young man before he met that ghastly American woman. He served his country with distinction and he did great work with his charities. She got into his head, alienated him from his family & friends, manipulated him and convinced him that his privileged position was a form of victimhood. She has a lot to answer for.

You are so right.

Blinky21 · 27/10/2022 18:52

I really want to read it, spare is a clever title

peaceandove · 27/10/2022 18:56

I get that Harry might well be dealing with all sorts of trauma. But why isn't he working through it all, privately, with a really good therapist, eh? Why is he 'working through it all' with the world as an audience? For someone who supposedly deeply craved privacy and abhorred the media it's all a little......odd patently money grabbing

candykittensareoverrated · 27/10/2022 13:29

It’s awful. Demonstrates how much of a victim he thinks he is. I am fed up of the victim narrative

This. Zero self awareness. He just needs to stop invading his own privacy.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 27/10/2022 18:57

Someone upthread suggested
It's a book about him, in his own words

You really reckon he wrote it himself?
As opposed to it having been written for him by J.R. Moehringer?

Harry Windsor makes me think of Greta Garbo going around shouting "I want to be alone!" through a megaphone. (Not that she ever did, but it was a standing joke for a while about that sort of very famous.)

Incidentally, if he didn't like being called "Spare", why did he think it was ok to call one of his fellow-cadets at Sandhurst "P**i"? Speaking of racism as he and Meghan seem inclined to do...

EsmaCannonball · 27/10/2022 19:00

I don't think Harry was great until he met Meghan, I think some very skilled Palace staffers did a brilliant job transforming Harry's image from posh lout to military man, and the schism Meghan orchestrated with the royal family cut him loose from that effective PR. Whoever manages his PR now is doing a terrible job.

Grapewrath · 27/10/2022 19:00

We always called him the ‘spare one’ in our house. Horrible really.
I’ll be interested to read it

WisteriaLodge · 27/10/2022 19:01

There's a video on YT where Harry is giving a short interview on the news that William and Catherine are expecting a second baby. Harry teases William over news of second royal baby very interesting, he seems quite happy and carefree. Note what the interviewer asks him at the end and Harry's answer to it, very telling, Sorry I can't link it...

antelopevalley · 27/10/2022 19:02

@WisteriaLodge Why not just tell us what he says? This seems like you are playing games and frankly life is too short.

Don't be so bloody ridiculous, I'm too old to play fucking games, I'm pointing people in the direction of the vid that's all.

SiobhanSharpe · 27/10/2022 19:05

I'm not a royalist and doubt I will read this book.
But it's a good title. To the point.
And if any members of his family actually called him that they are utter cunts.
What a headfuck for a young boy who lost his mother in terrible circumstances.

Alighttouchonthetiller · 27/10/2022 19:05

I can see Harry back in the Cotswolds, Hunting and playing Polo with a down to Earth woman.

Yes. It’s such a shame. I think if Meghan was more of a ‘jolly him along’ type they might have been really successful as part of the RF. He clearly needs someone who says,’Oh Christ. We’re in Wolverhampton today and it’s raining....never mind we’ll have a little laugh in the car, shake a few hands, have a nice lunch and be back in the bath with a large gin each before we know it.’

She could have done that, but chose to be otherwise.

Spot on.

He needs a Camilla, doesn’t he?

antelopevalley · 27/10/2022 19:08

He is a stranger to you. How do you know what kind of wife he needs?

lemmein · 27/10/2022 19:11

A mistress?

How very presumptuous of you to assume he is a stranger to me. 😁

UniversalAunt · 27/10/2022 19:11

‘Just had an email from Waterstones offering the book at half price’

@MrsScrubbingbrush , I suggest you open negotiations with a reasonably low offer, say 25% list price. Leave it on the table for now.

Come publication date + x weeks, they may respond to your offer…

lemmein · 27/10/2022 19:14

Wonnle · 27/10/2022 17:40

They forgot the the word after SPARE and that is PRICK

Hilarious 🙄

UniversalAunt · 27/10/2022 19:16

Thinking about popping down to the bookies to place a bet on how

a) low the UK high street retail price will go;

b) how many weeks until it hits the bargain bins;

c) long until it drops off the Sunday Times/Publisher trade best sellers list.

UniversalAunt · 27/10/2022 19:16

Anyone fancy a game of I-Spy Spare on discount?

So far, Waterstone’s 50%.

MissFancyDay · 27/10/2022 19:18

Poor William, what an almighty mess Harry has made of everything.

He could have had it all, done great charitable deeds, made a massive difference to his chosen areas. Even just been an international playboy if he had wanted to.

He could have just left the royal family and set up with Meghan in America being private and happy, as I presumed he wanted. He didn't need to trash the royals to make money, they had a good start in America financially, they could have done anything.

The title says it all, I'm afraid. More whining and poor me.

What a waste.

TheHouseonHauntedHill · 27/10/2022 19:24

@Alighttouchonthetiller

That's definitely what Camilla does.

However Megan did one more...she said they didn't have to do it. Not " surviving* " thriving " etc..

I think it's an excellent title.

Diana was concerned about him being treated differently from Very early on.

From the sounds of it you would have been perfect for him.

I would rather eat a bag of spanners than read any royal biography, but that's a great title.

Same here. It made me chuckle.

Owlcation · 27/10/2022 19:38

Whataretheodds · 27/10/2022 13:28

It's a reference to the phrase 'Heir and spare' that royal brides are expected to produce. William is the Heir. Harry is the spare. So it makes sense as the title for his autobiography.

What's your issue with it?

I agree. @benisright there is logic behind the title. William is the heir. Harry is the spare. Title makes sense. Not annoying at all…

Would you think a one word title ‘Heir’ would be annoying if it was William’s memoir?!
