This is not democracy.

Twoducksonthewindow · 24/10/2022 14:26

No...a general election is the last thing we need right now. Stability and calm....I think Rishi might pull it off

DrMarciaFieldstone · 24/10/2022 14:26

BrightYellowDaffodil · 24/10/2022 14:16

Quite.

I don’t think people understand how elections work. You vote for your MP, the party with the most MPs wins. The leader of that party is PM. That party can change its leader, and they will be PM.

If I never see the phrase “GENERAL ELECTION NOW!!!!!” again because people don’t understand that they don’t vote for a PM, it will be too soon.

Absolutely. Shouting ‘ELECTION NOW!!!’ on Twitter is pointless.

sst1234 · 24/10/2022 14:13

Buckle up people. Now it’s time to pay for Rishi’s largesse when he borrowed and printed half a trillion pounds so that you could stay at home and bake banana bread and watch Netflix. Don’t remember anyone in these quarters complaining why healthy people were locked at home while the economy was being destroyed. Why so much rage at Rishi now?

This. Didn’t the masses harping on for lockdown realise that it would all have to be paid for?

MerryMarigold · 24/10/2022 14:26

RishyWashy · 24/10/2022 14:20

The man who brings down the last prime minister wins. I wonder who will take him down. Of course the only reason people might not want him must be to do with racism. Not because he's going to make life for the middle much harder.

Oh, unlike Liz Truss why have an the tax breaks to the very very wealthy. The judge are going to be squeezed whoever is in power. But he will be blamed because he's brown. And I have nothing but respect for him bringing Boris down. Somebody had to, it's just a shame it took so long. He was an embarrassment to this country.

ilovesooty · 24/10/2022 14:26

Stars71 · 24/10/2022 14:23

Is he racist?

If he says Sunak isn't British it appears that he is.

Angela Rayner is at it again.

MerryMarigold · 24/10/2022 14:16

Absolutely. He's the first Tory PM I actually like (I'm not a Tory but if anyone could persuade me it would be him). The racism and xenophobia of Tory party members disguised as 'ideological differences' is scary.

This.

EverywhereIgo · 24/10/2022 14:27

Proudtory · 24/10/2022 14:25

Funny how all the veiled accusations come out for racism as soon as you don't back some one who is not white, get a grip. May be, just maybe some of us dont have aligned views with his or what he has done in the past, his position or how this has been handled.🙄

Ha ha, do you want Boris then?!

Untitledsquatboulder · 24/10/2022 14:27

It is democracy though, it's parliamentary democracy which is the type we have.

Boris Johnson brought himself down.

SweetSenorita · 24/10/2022 14:28

It is, actually.

Withnoshoes · 24/10/2022 14:13

You don’t vote for pm fair enough but I also didn’t vote for the party, but it’s wrong that the party can just change their leader so easily twice . within a few months without any say so from the public.

What is more worrying is what Truss was able to do without scrutiny from within the cabinet and without a vote from Parliament. Also breaking the manifesto pledges. That's truly undemocratic.

theworldhas · 24/10/2022 14:24

So will his Mrs finally start paying tax now?

I’m not sure how the coronation of another posh out of touch Tory is going to solve the decade+ of problems created by posh out of touch Tories.

His wife has ALWAYS PAID TAX IN ACCORDANCE WITH UK TAX LEGISLATION.

I worked for HMRC for over 30 years. I am familiar with the rules of Domicile and Residency as regards Income Tax.

I know what I'm talking about. You haven't a bloody clue 🙄🙄

theworldhas · 24/10/2022 14:29

think Rishi is the best person given the financial mess we are in

… caused by the Tories.

mamabear715 · 24/10/2022 14:30

Oh, good!
Wanted him to win in the first place. :-)
Tidy-up time in No. 10, hopefully!

RishyWashy · 24/10/2022 14:30

Sunak is being criticized for his behaviour, and how things are going to become much worse under his government. It's nothing to do with the colour of his skin. It's about him, as a person. This really is race baiting. Pack it in, white people. Stop using race to your own advantage.

MissHavishamsMouldyOldCake · 24/10/2022 14:30

All the 'this is democracy akshully' people would be singing a different tune if it were the Labour party playing pass the parcel with the keys to No 10.

Technically he is elected, as the British people democratically eleceted the party, not the PM.

happyinherts · 24/10/2022 14:32

Not helped of course by Brexit and Covid. But let's put all that behind us and hope that Rishi can do something positive. I do think he's the best contender.

JoinedForThisPost · 24/10/2022 14:32

If you want to talk about democracy, less than 50% of the electorate voted for the conservative party in 2019, and yet they got a large majority and here we are. You can't have suddenly only just realised that the system is not great? But it's what we have had for years, I don't see why people are crying unfair now.

JocelynBurnell · 24/10/2022 14:32

Proudtory · 24/10/2022 14:09

No longer a proud tory today, just canceled my membership. This was the last straw for me and many more members I know. Sorry you can only push your members so far.

YABU.

The last straw should have come a long ago.

xogossipgirlxo · 24/10/2022 14:32

I don't know what to think, time will tell... Hopefully no more mess.

No. We're baffled by the number of people who think they are making a clever point are just exposing their own ignorance.
