Continuation from last thread, for those of us following all the action on Monday.

And yes I'm a LOTR fan, so tried to continue the theme in the thread title 😉

Thanks for the new thread.

Sunak has tweeted:
Boris Johnson delivered Brexit and the great vaccine roll-out.
He led our country through some of the toughest challenges we have ever faced, and then took on Putin and his barbaric war in Ukraine.
We will always be grateful to him for that
Although he has decided not to run for PM again, I truly hope he continues to contribute to public life at home and abroad
.

I'm still not impressed by Sunak, his message to Johnson was far too sycophantic and full of lies.

He hasn't delivered Brexit, we've had far bigger challenges(most of his were of his own making), he hasn't taken on Putin- he supported Ukraine who are still fighting.

We are all hoping he fucks off abroad and leaves us alone though, so maybe that bit was accurate.

Sunak is just more of the same- lies, deceit, obfuscation.
He should fuck off as well in my opinion.

BoreOfWhabylon · 23/10/2022 23:58

Shouldn't that be The Desolation of Nadine?

Blossomtoes · 24/10/2022 00:06

I think we’re jumping the gun with the assumption it’s going to be Sunak. The nominations Johnson got have got to go somewhere and there are still over 100 MPs still to declare. There’s no guarantee of a coronation unless Mordaunt steps down and Sunak will have to offer her something pretty juicy for her to do that.

Or the 1922 will get hold of her tomorrow and have her drop out at the last minute. I don't think she'll get the numbers though.

Paul Brand:
PaulBrandITV
Not everyone in the Conservative Party is in a unifying mood this evening…
(tweet was by former tory MEP but has since been deleted, but was screenshotted

In response to the Paul Brand linked tweet now deleted by Bannerman, it’s just utterly odious that an MP who ultimately is a member of parliament sees fit to post such a tweet.

Can you just imagine what recourse there would be if a managerial employee did the same referring to say the CFO of a public limited company. The standard of so many MPs really does leave a lot to be desired frankly. And they are funded by the taxpayer and still think it’s ok to publicly tweet such utterly offensive garbage.

ilovesooty · 24/10/2022 00:44

Poor Nads is now insisting on a general election because Sunak doesn't have a mandate. She means because her beloved Johnson lied about the support he had, or thought he'd get it by pressurising other people.

mathanxiety · 24/10/2022 01:09

I suspect that's the reason for Sunak's arse licking of Johnson - to try to get his followers to opt for him and not Mordaunt.

It's clear that the Tory Civil War rages on with Dorries' call for a GE, and there is no end in sight. The ERG wing of the party won't stop until their man or woman is in Number 10 - or until they finally destroy their own party. So there's that.

GreenLunchBox · 24/10/2022 02:35

Yuck, Sunak is a despicable man

The Mail comment piece has described Johnson's decision as "a gesture of wisdom and statesmanship" 😂

FFS! Isn't it obvious to everyone that he just couldn't get enough votes from MPs?

He said he had 102, but I don't believe that for a second. He is just trying to save face...turning to lies as always to save himself from public humiliation.

Hos comments about Mordaunt and Sunak being unwilling to unite with him in the national interest were laughable. He clearly expected them to step aside for him and they both told him to fuck off.

His arrogance is breathtaking.

Maggiethecat · 24/10/2022 06:45

Place mark

Zonder · 24/10/2022 07:08

Johnson's withdrawal letter is peak narcissism and delusion.

CaveMum · 24/10/2022 07:09

Thanks for the new thread @sunnydaytoday0 and yes, loving the theming of the threads!

Finished listening to the now-outdated Newscast podcast in bed, amused to hear Chris Mason try to blame his “Boris has 100” tweet on the fact he was in an adventure park with his 2 kids when he sent it.

He tried to back pedal with a “I clarified it 2 mins later” and “everyone wants instant news” but I think it was pure “gotta get one over on the other journos”.

Lets see how this morning goes.

SleeplessInEngland · 24/10/2022 07:24

Glad Mason at least acknowledged he was wrong to send that tweet, even if he couldn’t bring himself to apologise. It was pure Johnson PR bullshit.

Could also say that it's because of his lack of statesmanship and wisdom that we have had to endure these leadership contests.

CaveMum · 24/10/2022 07:58

I think Hunt and Wallace will stay in situ - a new Chancellor will just destabilise the markets further and Wallace is actually well thought of in military circles from what DH (ex-RAF) tells me.

For the rest of them, who knows but I think in order to try and establish the much needed and elusive “unity”, Rishi is going to need to balance the Cabinet with left and right of the party.

SleeplessInEngland · 24/10/2022 08:01

Mordaunt’s not giving up, which is a bit pathetic. Even if she somehow wins she’s already on the back foot with MPs.

Quite.

HainaultViaNewburyPark · 24/10/2022 08:06

I presume Mordaunt is hanging in there to ensure that Johnson doesn’t have a last minute change of heart she gets offered a good post by Rishi.

medianewbie · 24/10/2022 08:06

Billy plaicematting. Great thread title:
'The Desolation of Boris'. Marvellous.

MarshaBradyo · 24/10/2022 08:07

Mordaunt is being painful atm sticking around

Can she not learn from Truss you need to have majority MPs to command the party

DH is super relieved that Boris is out. I don't think I can be so pleased since that appears to mean we get Sunak.

DH is super relieved that Boris is out. I don't think I can be so pleased since that appears to mean we get Sunak.

But the conservative party is still massively divided and I don't think Sunak will be able to bring them together.
At least we won't have Boris Johnson who would just use the oportunity to scam as much as he can for himself and his mates while the country falls apart.
