I will get on with it, the same way the majority of posters on this thread will do, despite all the talk of protests and marches.

It’s good you like Portugal but really it’s not all bad here, ie in daily life not on SM

You don't work in health, education, social services, seen mortgage payments double, pensions falling and foreign investors avoiding UK.

The UK is a basket case, anyone who doesn't see that is well off or blind.

UK now referred to as Britaly, a reference to how Italy changed Governments and lurched from one financial crisis to another a few years ago but even they had more political stability and of course were in the EU, so had that as a back stop, we ve neither.

Like anyone I see a lot of people and talk about daily stuff, they are booking holidays, buying stuff, looking happier due to more wfh with lower childcare costs and more flexibility. It can be very different if you are somewhere else and that’s valid too.

In terms of what casually comes up at social events partygate did more than current issues. On that note Imo Sunak is a better choice as he has most of the party behind him.

fairtrauchled · 23/10/2022 10:34

Hope we get a general election soon and get rid of the Tory government.

threegoodthings · 23/10/2022 10:38

As a Labour voter I want him to win. The Tories would very quickly implode, we'd have an early GE and they would be out for a generation.

Doesn't look like he's got the backing though...expect he will rule himself out tomorrow morning and Rishi will be PM by teatime. Let's just hope the electorate don't have too short a memory by the time the GE rolls round.

Start a crowd-funding page for a hit-man.

walkingonsunshinekat · 23/10/2022 10:45

@MarshaBradyo You move in different circles to the majority of us, given your circle thinks Partygate caused greater damage.

No the party isn't behind Sunak, just 130 MP's want him atm, the membership still want Johnson - so the Conservatives are still very much spilt, we've Steve Baker saying BJ a disaster, ReesMogg and other cabinet members wanting BJ, Mordaunt now rubbishing Sunak.

The two main candidates are polls apart and BJ could still easily be the next PM.

lovemyflipflops · 23/10/2022 10:45

Better the devil you know ..... cannot think of ANYONE who could help us now

Cassillero · 23/10/2022 10:48

It's irrelevant to me which lying hypocrite wins the leadership race.

Weightlossanne · 23/10/2022 10:49

OneFootintheRave · 23/10/2022 09:27

I had already thought about this.

I would uninstall all my newspaper apps from my phone and only rely on seeing evening news occasionally.

I follow current affairs a bit obsessively and have done so for years. It's taking up a lot of my time and not really gaining me anything.

Yes I’ve been the same since Brexit and am trying to draw back. I think I’m going to metaphorically put my fingers in my ears and sing lalala. I’d also probably join a march though that didn’t do much last time he was elected leader.

lobsterkiller · 23/10/2022 10:50

Take to the streets.

Not so much what causes greater damage. I’ve always said partygate was ludicrous (an unpopular opinion on here) but the real damage is markets reacting as we saw with Truss.

That’s different to what gains traction with the general public. Partygate was 6 months of campaigning and got people talking and emotively hit right note. Overall there is more damage from markets reaction but people here have disposable income and probably save a bit due to wfh, not everyone will be renewing mortgage atm.

I don’t want Johnson as I think Sunak has better chance at stability, I’m glad Baker has backed him and he’s declared.

Curse myself for not immigrating years ago

CornishGem1975 · 23/10/2022 10:51

Crack on with my life. All the options are as shit as each other, it makes no odds which one it is.

MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel · 23/10/2022 10:52

Be totally unsurprised and get on with trying to survive the CoL crisis as its clear nothing short of a miracle will reduce mortgage interest rates and inflation.

ThatGirlInACountrySong · 23/10/2022 10:53

So no 'civil unrest' in the winter? Just summer?

Embarrassing

Luckydip1 · 23/10/2022 10:59

The only chance the conservatives have of winning the next election is with Boris, and they know that.

BJ is a comic figure, a man that attracts pity and hatred in equal measure, sure he has his base but thats small.

Labours chances at the next GE, already good will become excellent if BJ is the next PM, so from that POV, bring him back :)

Luckydip1 · 23/10/2022 11:14

Boris is still very popular, lots of people think he's great.

PerfectlyPreservedQuagaarWarrior · 23/10/2022 11:19

He wouldn't survive as leader until the next election. The only way that would happen is if it were called very quickly, which for obvious reasons the Tories won't want to do.

Luckydip1 · 23/10/2022 11:14

Boris is still very popular, lots of people think he's great.

When he was PM, his personal polling was terrible.

A new YouGov snap poll finds, by 60% to 27%, the British public think Conservative MPs should vote to remove Johnson from Downing Street

June 2022.

kirinm · 23/10/2022 11:23

He's still being investigated by the parliamentary commission. If they find against him - and rumours by journalists are suggesting they will - he will be forced to resign.

flamingogold · 23/10/2022 11:26

I reckon that if Boris is elected again, he will be out again by Christmas - he has no moral integrity or self control so he will fuck up again sooner rather than later.

Weefreetiffany · 23/10/2022 11:27

The conservative Party are a joke now, they will never get credibility back. Strong and stable my arse. The European press are using us as a cautionary tale of what happens if you exit the EU. I Johnson comes back we should finish what guy Fawkes started.

LaGioconda · 23/10/2022 11:27

I'd be seriously worried about the further damage he will inevitably inflict before he messes up again, but possibly a bit happy that Labour's chances of success at the next election were assured.
