As title really. Just wondering if, on an anonymous basis, the results here would reflect what I’m hearing around me in real life.

Would you personally like to see Boris return to being PM?

YABU - yes
YANBU - no

(There’s no bias in the choice of which is unreasonable - I just had to pick one!)

I'm in the "anyone but Penny Mordaunt" camp.

Why? If you want to see the Tories finished for ever, Johnson’s the one.

Tal12 · 22/10/2022 18:34

But... let's see what a mess Labour can make while we pull ourselves together and get ready to make a better job of things.

what a mess labour can make, LOL, cause the Torys have done a fabulous job the last few years 😆

There was a older man in my local Waitrose saying to the cashier ‘Bring back Boris’. Literally couldn’t get my head around WHY anyone (.. even a hardcore Tory!!) would think this is a good idea?!?!?! Can you imagine what an absolute mockery this would make of our political
system?!? The must corrupt Tory government. Surely there needs to be a general election?!

Yes. I would really like to hear from someone who wants Boris back who would explain the political or ideological reasons behind their view.
I've yet to hear any argument that's not either very simplistic (and I'm no political or intellectual heavy weight myself) such as vague references to getting Brexit done, or based on a liking for his percieved personality 'he's a laugh'.
What does Johnson specifically stand for that resonates with people?
What is it about his approach and his plans that people think will be particularly good for the country?
What professional traits does he have that people admire?

Yes, that's partly my point. The Conservatives have made a mess, apparently of everything. We need some new blood and some new ideas. But that doesn't mean that Labour will be better. They might, though, and if that's the case the Conservatives will have to try even harder if they want to hold office again.

itsgettingweird · 22/10/2022 18:42

Nope.

He had his chance and proved to be an unethical liar.

Just because the Tory's chose an even worst replacement doesn't mean we should accept him as a better option.

If Truss and Johnson are the best they have to lead their party out of 360 odd Tory MPs then they are in trouble.

And the people they work for should have the chance to speak and be heard and declare if they^^ want Johnson back, the Tory's in power or someone else to govern.

Once we’ve got rid of them I can see them being out of power for at least a decade. That’s if the party survives at all.

And if that's what is needed, so be it. This country is in deep shit. Drowning, not waving. The nonsense that's been going on in the Conservative party isn't helping us at all.

Tal12 · 22/10/2022 18:50

@StopStartStop interesting point. It’s true whoever leads us through the foreseeable be it labour or Tory, has a hell of a job ahead!

TooBigForMyBoots · 22/10/2022 19:07

We are definitely drowning and the Tory response has been to have a bout of infighting. It's their response to everything nowadays.🙄 The market is hostile wary of Johnson for good reasons. Him being PM again will lead to an Extinction Event for the Conservatives. I can't think of a stupider choice, but it's the 2020s and mad shit happens.🤯

I haven’t spoken to anyone in real life who thinks this, who on Earth are these people? I know there aren’t any great alternatives but really do we have to stoop that low?

Florenz · 22/10/2022 19:18

Honestly, everyone I've spoken to in real life wants Boris back. Even the Labour supporters.

annonymousse · 22/10/2022 19:21

Absolutely not. He's already proved he's dishonest and untrustworthy and all those cringeworthy apologies.... it would be unforgivable stupid to bring him back. It's only been 6 weeks! How quickly people forget.

WatchoRulo · 22/10/2022 19:23

StressedToTheMaxxx · 22/10/2022 14:23

I would like him to come back. Be good to have a bit of eye candy on our screens again 😂

Jesus H Christ on a fucking unicycle, no wonder things are a mess.

WindyHedges · 22/10/2022 19:24

Oh yes bring back a lying corrupt buffoon.

What a great thing for the country.

Particularly Labour supporters I’d guess. He’s the best and fastest route to a GE and change of government.

StarkintheSouth · 22/10/2022 19:26

No. He’s a liar, totally inept and weak. Not decisive enough. As if that wasn’t bad enough let a predator work in his Gvt. Unchecked. The Tories have crashed and burned, we need a general election now.

CraigDavid · 22/10/2022 19:34

Absolutely not. Would make the tories seem more farcical than they already do.

@Florenz is right. Johnson is still very popular with Working classTory voters

Ffsmakeitstop · 22/10/2022 19:36

We were chatting with a friend today and my DH said he'd like Boris back. When I asked why he said things have only gone tits up in the last two weeks!!!! This from a man who watches a lot of political and news programmes.
I said he would only get in if people like voting for lying, misogynistic arseholes.
Honestly I despair.

Yeah right...

Unless they're just praying for a quick general election with that idiot in charge!

Honestly the 17% have political Stockholm syndrome!

Purplehonesty2 · 22/10/2022 19:53

Fuck no. We are already the political laughing stock of the world -why would we want him back?
