Would you vote conservative again?

I wouldn’t vote conservative again after the total shambles that have been the last 12 years. They’re constantly infighting rather than sorting out the economy and have left the NHS in a total mess. No care for people suffering from the cost of living crisis

TBH if the Tories promised joining SM & Labour didn't support this, i'd vote Conservative.

You know what? I think I would too. Through gritted teeth mind.

Sad isn't it?

That policy might cost the Tories some red wall seats but they don't like Sunak anyway, could be sold as cake n eat though.

But it would also mean they hang on to more southern seats.

Plus Tories yet again parking their tanks on what should be Labours ground.

ThreeRingCircus · 24/10/2022 10:15

I honestly don't know. I'm a swing voter, I've voted for all parties in the past depending on their manifestos and policies at the time.

After the Brexit shit show, partygate and Liz Truss I'd been saying I'd not be able to vote Conservative again. I do rate Rishi Sunak though so if he becomes PM we'll have to see how things play out, I really hope he can turn things around.

Labour's policies on self ID, their treatment of gender critical MPs and their abysmal performance as an opposition party when they've had essentially an open goal with a crumbling Conservative party deeply concern me. I'd be highly wary of voting for them at the moment but then I stand back and look at the state of the country and it is far worse than it was in 2010. So I simply do not know. As others have said, I feel politically homeless and I'd have to just vote on what I felt were the best policies at the time of a general election.

It's utterly crap and disheartening. Politics in this country is in a terrible state.

How do you rate him though? Were you not disgusted at the video of him at the BBQ, boasting about taking the funds away from struggling areas?

In Wales we've had 25 years of Labour. We need a change.

Hobbesmanc · 24/10/2022 11:22

I haven't ever voted Tory although I've dabbled with the Lib Dems- we're in a Tory marginal where Labour will never get in. But my in-laws and some of my mums family deffo do. And I have close friends who are soft wet tory swing voters. I'm perfectly capable of treasuring and loving these people even if politically we might disagree. If 40% of the electorate voted Tory- that's a huge number of fellow citizens to dismiss as cunts

Lots of us are broadly centrist and neither main party has had much appeal to this voter cohort. I'd argue Blair and Cameron were the last two centrist leaders.

The UK needs someone to galvanise the middle ground. Sensible consensus around supporting the marginalised and the disadvantaged, promoting safe, market regulated growth, strong commitment to health, education and social care, clear and consistent foreign policy.

Two much energy has been expended on single issue politics. I find it hard to understand why some posters are so focused on parties stance on self ID- without considering the huge and detrimental impact Tory government has had on women and children

Tanith · 24/10/2022 12:09

“New Labour under Blair was led by a Tory according to Roy Hatterskey and built on the aftermath and growth of Thatcher and the Tories. It was left wing conservative,”

Then why did the Coalition Government immediately start dismantling the achievements of that Labour Government? Why has the Conservative Government continued removing the policies and funding that Labour put in place?

The last Labour Government was a Labour Government and no re-writing of history to claim their achievements for the Conservatives will change that.
Nor will pretending the Conservatives weren’t in power during the 70s so they can conveniently forget the disastrous Heath Government.

Have you considered the huge and detrimental impact to women and children when their rights to privacy and safeguarding measures have been removed?

Keir Starmer was on LBC this morning and couldn't clearly answer the question "Should <a male> be included in an all-woman shortlist?".

According to Labour, the rights of a "tiny" minority trump those of the majority of the UK population.

I won't be voting Labour.

Blossomtoes · 24/10/2022 16:37

Have you considered the huge and detrimental impact to women and children under a Tory government which has destroyed public services? Get angry with the right people, ffs.

RishyWashy · 24/10/2022 16:44

How do you think labour will rectify that? There is no money. But what they will do is make life worse for women and girls.

Blossomtoes · 24/10/2022 16:49

How? Life couldn’t get any worse for some women. And there’s always money.

Starmer is hopeless. He can’t tell a man from a woman. Let’s face it he just goes with what he’s politically dumb party goes with. If they get in it will be more and more of the woke stuff and even worse management

Of course it can get worse. That is very short sighted thinking.

Silly think to say, Starmer has children and cared for his poorly mum, i'm pretty sure he knows what a woman is.

But, regardless of my own views, Trans is a thing and it can't be undone, so we have to deal with it, as the Tories have recognised by keeping the GRA act.

The awful reduction in womens services and rights are happening under your lot, shameful really that you support TW sent to womens prisons and wards, closure of DV refuge's and cuts in benefits for female/male carers of the disabled/vulnerable/elderly (in real terms)

However, Sunak lost me as a voter when he thanked Truss wtf????

Croque · 24/10/2022 19:43

I agree. He never needed to mention Truss in these circumstances. It may be a way to demonstrate his humble way of dealing with everyone but it sounded tone deaf. She has hardly been the epitome of grace. Perhaps he was thanking her for clearing off sooner rather than later to make way for him?

Seymour5 · 24/10/2022 19:58

I mentioned on another thread that before Margaret Thatcher, the basic rate of income tax was 33%. Thats 1/3 of taxable income for low and medium earners.

I’ve lived in Labour heartlands all my adult life, the only time I’ve voted Labour was in 1997. I’ve no idea how I’ll vote in future.

MintJulia · 24/10/2022 19:59

Ask me in 2024.

If Rishi manages to find a fair offer for public sector pay deals, and calms down the money markets. Imposes a windfall tax on the power companies. If he oversees a period of calm and consolidation in schools. If he pulls together a cabinet that shows enough compassion to understand how people are struggling then I'll think about it.

But if Rachel Reeve is still shadow chancellor, I'll probably still vote Labour. She is very bright, with good experience.
