Would you vote conservative again?

I wouldn’t vote conservative again after the total shambles that have been the last 12 years. They’re constantly infighting rather than sorting out the economy and have left the NHS in a total mess. No care for people suffering from the cost of living crisis

I remember the last real Labour government - why I’m not keen on another. The years of stagnation and being ruled by left wing unions. Hopeless.

Complete rot.

It's funny, though, @MariEllie how the markets (worldwide) reacted to the Truss/Karteng plan, isn't it? Almost like they didn't know what they were talking about, yet T/K knew better?

She tanked our country. It was ill thought-through, and very arrogantly they didn't publish how any of their plans would be costed.

Arrogant and ignorant. As well as politically naive.

MariEllie · 23/10/2022 22:08

Can you read? Obviously you can’t think. I said there was nothing wrong with the aims of Truss’ plan - or perhaps you like large state high taxes like most socialists? Don’t worry I remember the last real Labour government - why I’m not keen on another. The years of stagnation and being ruled by left wing unions. Hopeless.

You came out with a completely contrary sentence and you know it, hence the anger in your post.

Blair and Brown actually had (relatively) high growth for 10 years before the GFC and as they never repealed Tory anti union laws, i doubt they were ruled by the Unions.

Life has moved on since the 70s, its about time you did too, no one from the present Labour front bench was in the Labour Govt from that time.

What have the Tories improved after 12 years? as your such a fan, you wont have any problem telling us all will you?

FixundFoxi · 23/10/2022 22:18

@JimTheShit 'a party like Labour' So like how ?
Full of middle class liberal elite remainer types or working class common as muck northerners ? I'm fascinated when posters say they can't possibly vote for labour but then refuse to inform us why. Such pearl clutching. Like these posters are so wealthy they'll lose the family estate in inheritance tax.

FixundFoxi · 23/10/2022 22:31

The years of stagnation (heard of left* *behind areas in the north after 12 years of neglect ?) and being ruled by left wing unions (how many strikes have there been recently or threatened - those renowned marxist agitators the RNC and the criminal bar association 😂) Growth and productivity have flatlined for years, so much for conservative prudence and innovation. Give us all a rest and stop pedalling untruths

TheLassWiADelicateAir · 23/10/2022 20:53

Yes. I would vote for any candidate most likely to defeat an SNP candidate- if that's Conservative, yes, no hesitation.

Blimey, that focuses the mind a bit. Yes, if the choice were Conservative or SNP, I would definitely vote Conservative again.

Chippy1234 · 23/10/2022 23:06

Labour would allow the unions to rule the country and are supported largely by them. Raynor is a joke. I see the usual name calling by people who think Labour are the second coming. It really won’t get us to change our minds btw.

tillyFam1971 · 23/10/2022 21:15

to be honest i hope boris is prime minister again. he has been the best thing this country has ever seen. He was able to get brexit done and give this country the freedom it diserverves. if you think differently DO NOT fill up my PMs.

“Get brexit done”

Brexit has cost the U.K. billions in lost trade and tax revenues. The centre for European reform figures show that by then end of last year the economy was 5% smaller than it would have been if it stayed in the EU… that’s £31 BILLION! Gone.

Not to mention the Northern Ireland protocol … you’re fucking insane if you think he’s even remotely “got brexit done”

Blossomtoes · 23/10/2022 23:54

If you intend voting for a Tory government after the last week, nothing would change your mind. I genuinely don’t care how you vote but you won’t even listen to another point of view so why bother contributing? Rayner isn’t a joke, by the way.

mamabear715 · 24/10/2022 00:38

@Blossomtoes Would you 'listen to another point of view' & vote conservative, then? ;-)

I said last Labour government. New Labour under Blair was led by a Tory according to Roy Hatterskey and built on the aftermath and growth of Thatcher and the Tories. It was left wing conservative,

NormalNans · 24/10/2022 07:26

It genuinely scares me to read so many people saying they will continue to vote conservative, after everything that has happened over the last few years. Brexit was a monumental disaster and the beginning of an awful period in our history, the covid response and complete disdain for the country while they were living it up. The cost of living crisis and disastrous last few weeks for us all as a result of their decision making.

Is this purely because people don’t want to vote for labour? I have very different memories of the last labour government so am interested to know where the perception of them has come from as it sounds like you’re describing the 70s.

If you’re a Tory voter, would it take for you to not vote conservative?

heartchakra · 24/10/2022 07:29

I voted these guys in. Never again. The nastiest party in my living memory.

knittingaddict · 24/10/2022 07:31

I know there are some people out there who say they will never vote Conservative or Labour and never do, but I'm not one of those. Honestly who can predict the future? I have probably 20 years of voting left to do. Anything could happen in that time.

red4321 · 24/10/2022 07:32

If you’re a Tory voter, would it take for you to not vote conservative?

A new party that is similar politically but actually tackles the difficult issues such as the NHS. I wouldn't vote for any of the current parties in the same way that some Labour voters wouldn't vote Conservative.

I also believe in exercising my right to vote so that only leaves voting for the same. Reluctantly.

MarshaBradyo · 24/10/2022 08:05

I switch votes so it’s not a definite I stick to one party but after hearing R4 this morning I’d vote for a Blair like party, no gender lies, but wanting to rejoin single market or something that would mitigate Brexit.

daviesbrownsmithgreen · 24/10/2022 08:21

This was always going to be a question that would lead to arguments.

No, people only vote for Tories out of selfish reasons. People will a stronger moral compass vote Labour, I'm sorry if that offends anyone but that's how it is.

Funnily enough, if you look at the demographics of Tory voters, its the highest and lowest earners in the country that vote for them. Ironic because its the lowest earners that consistently get shafted. As the standard of living in the UK has increased, and lower income earners can afford a nice big TV, a package holiday each year etc. they disassociate with being lower income earners and vote Conservative as they believe they'll benefit from them.

From a personal perspective, if you honestly think Labour will do a worse job than Conservative you need to take a long look in the mirror. The country is fucked.

NormalNans · 24/10/2022 08:36

Thank you for answering, so I think what you’re saying is that they’re the best of a bad bunch but you don’t actually want to vote for any of them?

Yes. And it's nice to have a respectful debate that isn't Tory voter = evil. Labour/Lib Dems don't reflect my political ideology.

I'm embarrassed by Boris' deflection and I like KS. But I wouldn't ever vote Labour.

Clavinova · 24/10/2022 09:13

The centre for European reform figures show that by then end of last year the economy was 5% smaller than it would have been if it stayed in the EU

From their website;

The Centre for European Reform is an award winning independent think-tank devoted to making the EU work better, and strengthening its role in the world.

TBH if the Tories promised joining SM & Labour didn't support this, i'd vote Conservative.

The Single Market gives us the best way to improve the economic outlook of the UK.
