To sack cleaner for this?

My husband and I had a mix up today and both left cash out to pay the cleaner. She has taken both lots of cash so double her normal payment for the day. Would I be unreasonable to sack her for this? My husband is saying we should just not pay her next week but I am concerned now about her honesty. What would you do?

I would definitely ask her first but it does sound as if she took it thinking you might not notice, and ignore the people who think you're tight I'm sure no one in this day and age can pay double for the same service

BexW40 · 22/10/2022 18:27

No way fair to sack her, she may have thought it was a bonus:tip. Just let her know it was for the following week too.

MyStarBoy · 22/10/2022 18:27

She was wrong and dishonest, because she should have questioned it at the time.
Carry on as usual next week.
When she's finished just don't pay her.

ChangefortheBetter88 · 22/10/2022 18:27

The fact you can afford a cleaner and put it up here when we’re all struggling shows that you are a T * A T

Realitea · 22/10/2022 18:29

Maybe she forgot she’d taken the first amount. I would listen to her side of the story first as I’m sure she needs the job and wouldn’t purposely jeopardise it

🤣 I was waiting for something like this!

I agree. WfH means you could easily clean yourself! Unbelievably lazy. Meanwhile maybe just text her ‘hey sorry we were so busy WFH that we double paid you today but no worries just keep that second payment towards next week’ it’s SO simple. Worrying you felt the need to go on MN to ask!

Oh give over, you'd rather cleaners hot no money so we're worse off than you?

That's plain nasty!

I'm not sure when she is due back but it would worry me that she'd taken other things too.

I hope when she returns she says remember not to pay me today as you put two lots of money out last week.

We can do better than a man’s non effort surely.

Why does everything need to be twisted into an identity war? MN is becoming such a pit of mysandry these days. It's disgusting, unhelpful, and incredibly ironic

Hmm1234 · 22/10/2022 18:41

She would of assumed it was a tip no different from hotel cleaning staff!

blanketyblank97 · 22/10/2022 18:42

@ExpectMore I'm saying my DH would do 50%, no misandry here!

Very possible. Just text her lol

Cleaning other peoples' houses isn't a job that children list as something that they want to be. It isn't always the nicest job but it is well paid if you work for yourself and you can choose the hours that you want to work and where. My concern in this case is that the cleaner picked up her wages and then found the same amount in the same place but she didn't know that that was for her nor did she check that it was. To me this is theft, pure and simple. A cleaner is in a position of trust and should not take anything that does not belong to her and it was obvious that the second payment didn't. You are upset and uncertain about this so you have to decide what you want to do not what the others are telling you to do. In other words, do you feel comfortable having your cleaner in the house without you being there?

If you want her to stay then the best thing is to say nothing. If you don't want her to stay then let her know and say that the extra money that she picked up is her notice. In future, I suggest that you pay directly to the claner's bank account, any cleaner will need one for tax purposes.

MarshaBradyo · 22/10/2022 18:50

Would it really be worth her dishonesty for £50

If the agency found out she could lose all her work. I’d think carefully about whether your dh left it out at all, or she was on autopilot

Not everyone's struggling. Is everyone better off than you a twat?

blanketyblank97 · 22/10/2022 18:56

@Husbandintheroom

Not sure where I said I did. My hubby and I cover everything half and don’t have a cleaner. WFH home means OP doesn’t need one either-hence my point. Re read my love.

Please do not refer to me as "my love", is a contemptuous way of putting a woman in her place. It's also aggressive.

So do not refer to me or any other woman like that again.

You hate men so much you make your DH do 50% of the cleaning?!

@ExpectMore I know, he's so downtrodden Grin!

He does hunt and gather first as well!
