Liz Truss has resigned. Part 3: The Return of the King?

Continuation from last thread.

By Monday we could have a new prime minister, and by next Friday at the latest.

Will Sunak win this time, or could Johnson get his old job back? Would the Tory members once again go against the wishes of the MPs?

And yes I think Johnson sees himself as some sort of world king..

Nadine Dorries thinks a General Election is needed.

She gets more idiotic every day.

Morceaux · 23/10/2022 22:07

Can we get a meme of Paddington Bear walking Johnson back to the airport?

Assume for a moment that Boris campaign were being straight on numbers. He finished with 102 MPs, but was claiming 100 before 3pm Saturday.

That would suggest that, with 138 MPs not then declared, he managed to secure no more than 2 more MPs in the final 30 hours. He was done.

I wonder what kind of PM Sunak will be. He's a Tory so I'm not going to like his policies but he doesn't seem to be a dopy twat which is something we haven't had as PM for a while.

Blocked · 23/10/2022 22:12

Oh actually, I've just remembered when he tried to pay for fuel using the barcode scanner at the petrol station. Never mind.

I got all six numbers on the national lottery last night, but I don't feel like it's the right time to win all that money, so I have ripped up my ticket

I wonder if there will be any Sunak bounce in the polls, given new PMs usually do (bar Truss) however he's coming in just as a lot of difficult fiscal decisions are being made.

Nadine came to me today,
and said it was time to go,
I looked at her and smiled,
as I whispered that “I know”

I then turned and looked behind me,
and saw that Jacob was asleep,
All my more-than-100 supporters were around me,
and I could hear them weep.

He’ll probably have a ‘thank fuck it’s not Johnson’ bounce, though it’s a long way to go to reach polling parity with Labour.

if he can make it through winter without everyone hating him then he’ll have done well.

She gets more idiotic every day.

Just a matter of hours ago she seemed of the opinion that a GE would be an utterly terrible outcome:

If Rishi Sunak were to win, the focus of the privileges committee I am absolutely certain would move straight onto Rishi Sunak and what he knew - in order to embolden Labours call for a general election. With Rishi we will be in general election territory within weeks.

LexMitior · 23/10/2022 22:21

What Sunak will be like in environment with no money to spend? Not so free with cash? But a much calmer daily agenda. Johnson was back in the country for 48 hours and everyone say hello to the drama llama.

I think although Labour have had huge leads in the polls recently, it was quite soft and some voters would return.

It will be interesting though if those screaming on social media that they will never vote tory again will follow through..

He should be able to command the party too - with Baker, Badenoch, Braverman on side . Johnson just stirred people up to the point of high emotion - Walker etc

It’s too much, too unstable

Well its probably not good news given Rishi's views. But there was never going to be any good news who ever won so....

Presumably Johnson’s reputation for making supporters look like idiots put a lot of MPs off this time. And he’s now made it even worse for next time.

Intelligence is not an indicator of common sense - I’ve heard from plenty of people who know high achieving academics that they can’t be trusted not to stick a knife in the toaster!

Yes agree @MarshaBradyo Rishi had learned and done his homework. He was much better prepared for the collapse of Liz Truss.

He had a team. A credible grasp of economics. Conservatives do sums. He is credible, and not in the habitat of refreshing himself (too often) in No 10.

All excellent points

A reminder

Here's Rishi Sunak in a leaked video boasting to Tory Party members that he was prepared to take public money out of “deprived urban areas” to help wealthy towns.

What money is this? The 'other money' these towns have?

He does seem to be diligent and professional. And hey won't he be our first non white PM? There's one positive if nothing else.
