Liz Truss has resigned. Part 3: The Return of the King?

sunnydaytoday0 · 21/10/2022 10:40

Continuation from last thread.

By Monday we could have a new prime minister, and by next Friday at the latest.

Will Sunak win this time, or could Johnson get his old job back? Would the Tory members once again go against the wishes of the MPs?

And yes I think Johnson sees himself as some sort of world king..

Boris is quite obviously trying to have the last word by claiming 102 nominations (wasn’t it more than 100 24 hours ago? Not a very productive day if he’s only picked up one more during the course of today!).

He’s trying the “well I could have won it if I really wanted to” line now. Classic tactic of the sore loser.

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 23/10/2022 21:10

Bet Zahawi is raging.

SleeplessInEngland · 23/10/2022 21:10

I hope at least few of his public mp backers feel like absolute planks right now, but the fact that they supported him at all suggests self-awareness isn’t a strong suit.

Kualma · 23/10/2022 21:11

Tbf the MPs who backed him should be ashamed and I would be very annoyed if my MP backed him.

SleeplessInEngland · 23/10/2022 21:00

He says he got 102 nominations. Sure, boris 🤡

You wouldn't know them, they go to a different school.

greenhousegal · 23/10/2022 21:11

How is Nadine D doing?

BlessMyCottonSocks · 23/10/2022 21:13

SleeplessInEngland · 23/10/2022 20:59

Oh. Well that’s that?

BREAKING:

Boris Johnson pulls out of the Tory leadership contest

He says he hoped he, Sunak and Mordaunt could come together and unite but they have been unable to do so

It’s not though. If enough of his supporters switch to Mordaunt and she gets in front of the membership as a candidate, she could well win. It’s almost the same as a pact between the two of them but saves his face. It’s an ‘anyone but Sunak’ tactic I think.

sunnydaytoday0 · 23/10/2022 21:13

I'm surprised he didn't leave it to the last second to announce he wasn't running like back in 2016.

OP posts:
Hmmph · 23/10/2022 21:14

Hahahaha haha

Or at least it would be if this shambles wasn't about our PM

PerkingFaintly · 23/10/2022 21:17

I'm just here to point and laugh at the "I flew back from my holiday to tell you I don't think I should become Prime Minister. But I could have if I'd wanted to, I rilly rilly could."

RedToothBrush · 23/10/2022 21:18

Hhahahaha! To all the idiots who backed him.

This is the ultimate Johnson payout!

Nadia Zagawhi published a telegraph article titled “boris 2.0: why he’ll make Britain great again” at the exact moment Johnson pulled out.

Absolute fucking tool.

He probably worked out if he quit tonight he could give himself and his nearest and dearest time to pack and make the 10 AM. BA flight back to the villa in the Dominican Republic......

He wouldn't .....would he?

Well this is awkward. Nadhim Zahawi article backing Boris Johnson is published at 9pm - 2 mins after he put out a statement saying he was pulling out of the race.

How is Nadine D doing?

She'll be devastated.

To cheer herself up she needs to throw herself into writing a new book about a 'plucky young Scouse girl called Badine who runs away to Westminster and scales the dizzy heights of government, dazzling all around her. Then she catches the eye of a distinguished aristocratic gentleman called Noris. All the ladies love Noris but Noris only has eyes for Badine...

CaveMum · 23/10/2022 21:21

Oh that statement is comedy gold! You can practically hear the foot stamping and toddler-like rage!

RedToothBrush · 23/10/2022 21:21

Just think.

Jacob Rees-Mogg will be on the back benches again.

Shame

Of course by saying “I believe I am best placed to bring victory in 2024” Johnson is sowing Trump-like seeds in members’ heads even as he graciously concedes.

Blocked · 23/10/2022 21:24

Hahaha...his supporters have been SO obnoxious on Twitter. I know this means we have Rishi Sunak as PM now but still you have to take the small joys!

LexMitior · 23/10/2022 21:24

I hope this is end of Mogg.

Johnson will be back in a few years. He just did not run this campaign well and it showed. If he gets some proper advice he will do better. Charismatic as he is, he needed an oven ready team to address his credibility. He didn't have it and the press briefings were just amateur.

There are no words to express my joy at never having to see or hear Rees Mogg again. Or any of the rest of the Johnson fan club of grotesques.
