To think DH comment about Liz Truss could be final straw?

DH can be a bit of an idiot. Getting more right wing in his old age. Went through a stage of reading a load of nonsense online. Jordan Peterson etc.

News was on. And he just turned to me and said

"I've been reading some alternative theory behind all this. And I think it may well be the globalists who have forced Truss out"

When I asked who these globalists were, he just said

"The people in charge. Jeremy Hunt. Banks"

When I started to question it, I could feel it was gonna get into an argument v quickly so I just left to do the laundry

Things have been bad for a while. How batshit barmy is this comment? To me it feels totally crazy. I don't know if I can be with someone who feels so distant in the way he thinks the world works.

What do others think? Am I being ott to think this is some seriously worrying shit coming out his mouth?

@JaNaJanice Do you mean that if BOTH people in a relationship have "perfect self-esteem" then issues cease to exist? Because surely if you're married to an arsehole - be him violent/abusive/selfish etc - doesn't matter how brilliant your self-esteem is - you're going to have relationship issues.

Lack of self-esteem is the reason for women staying in shitty relationships, not the cause of leaving relationships. Leaving a long-term relationship takes guts.

IF Truss was brought down deliberately because she was a threat to someone, she would have had a history of competence, followed by one unusual period of apparent incompetence.

She hasn't. No one who has worked with her in previous roles has a good thing to say about her competence. She has been useless in all roles, culminating in this last one.

If it looks like a duck, swims like a duck, quacks like a duck, but cannot walk - it's a lame duck.

HauntedCabinet · 24/10/2022 12:39

And yes, I agree OP. Our opinions reflect who we are. There may be a spectrum of opinions you can understand from you partner, even if they differ from your own. But eventually there comes a point where an opinion is so abhorrent to you that the relationship ceases to function.

beastlyslumber · 24/10/2022 12:40

Well @IveGottaGetOutOfThisPlace your OP was about how he said something about Liz Truss and globalism, not "women in short skirts deserve to be raped." If he's making the latter statement, I don't know why you didn't put it in your OP. Strikes me as quite different from what you wrote about, which is that he is interested in non-mainstream ideas and you can't tolerate it.

Gosh, you Peterson fans gets so angry. Starting to see what the OP was talking about.

Hmm. Must be half term.

Hey, that's not fair. Lots of Peterson fans are adults.

It usually is.

99 times out 100 when a right wing conspiracy theorist is talking about globalists they mean Jews.

Oo I didn’t know this 😕

Yeah, another thing to thank Trump for.

emptythelitterbox · 24/10/2022 12:57

I'm always gobsmacked at how the most privileged white men get hung up on this conspiracy bs.

You mentioned older so I am guessing 50s 60s.

I take it he's a home owner and hasn't really had to lift much of a finger at home because he's had you to cook and clean up after him. He's likely had a job that pays well as long as he does it and manages not to get sacked.

He can come home and relax in his easy chair being as warm and cool as he likes and no chance of going hungry but somehow he is being screwed over and oppressed by the "globalists"?

In other countries, the privileged white men feel they're being screwed over by minorities, immigrants, women.

I think you should tell him poor poor dear and ask him if he needs any help for his clear oppression. Grin

SandAndSea · 24/10/2022 13:10

I'm pretty sure I saw a video recently in which Liz Truss said she's a proud globalist.

Maybe your husband is in the process of changing or developing his world view? It sounds like he's not that confident discussing things yet. Perhaps he senses your difficulties with it too?

My partner's taste in music can be pretty dodge but we agree to disagree. Can't you do the same?

Of course, if you don't respect him that's a different issue.

You've answer your own question. Jumping head first into conspiarcy theory rabbitholes is rather different to liking Ed Sheeran.

The opinion about women was her step-dad.

The opinion about Liz Truss was/is her partner.

Yes I know. The OP is about her husband but she asked me if I'd have a problem with my partner saying things like her stepdad says. I'm saying they are quite different things and what her stepdad thinks isn't relevant to her marriage.

IveGottaGetOutOfThisPlace · 24/10/2022 14:22

@beastlyslumber My point about my stepdad was just to illustrate that there are some world views so different to your own that it is perfectly valid to question the relationship. I would put both conspiracy theories and victim blaming both go into the category for me.

OP posts:
kateandme · 24/10/2022 14:50

It sounds like you really can't stand the man he's become.and your right.some views just shouldn't be tolerated.and no-one should have to live with someone who insures such things.
And u don't need to stay with someonewho feels and thinks total opposite to you.you wouldn't start dating a man like that with such differing morals,so don't finish with one.if this life is making you unhappy that's no way to be.

toastedcat · 24/10/2022 15:06

I think Jordan Peterson gets quite a bit of hate from people who don't bother to research him. He's seen as this alt right figure by the left when he actually has some interesting viewpoints.

So someone having a different opinion about globalism than you goes into the same category as rapey comments about women? Okay, but I think you are going to have a hard time finding a partner who fits in with your ideology and never thinks for himself. I guess you can put those parental locks on the Internet.

Peterson studied addiction, ironically enough, considering his own serious drug issues. He is not respected as a clinical psychologist and has even been investigated professionally. He claims all sorts of expertise in areas he has no right to.
How anyone can take him seriously is beyond me.

SleeplessInEngland · 24/10/2022 15:14

Coincidentally Nigel Farage felt compelled to defend his usage of the word 'globalism' just a few hours ago, so people who buy into that bullshit are in excellent company.

Globalist” has anti-Semitic history, often understood as code for “Jews,” Traumatizing for a lot of Jews, an anti-Semitic smear that Jews aren't loyal citizens of any nation. Hitler described Jews as “conducting their business everywhere,” thus harming & undermining good people

From the Twitter link.

Theresa May used that infamous phrase "Citizens of nowhere" at the Tory Party conference, and the meaning was also very clear then.

Globalism is a dog whistle term.

Fimofriend · 24/10/2022 15:36

Oh OP. Your husband seems to be very stupid. That is so unattractive. I am so sorry.

beastlyslumber · 24/10/2022 16:44

If it's a dogwhistle, who are the dogs? Because I can't hear it.
