To think DH comment about Liz Truss could be final straw?

IveGottaGetOutOfThisPlace · 20/10/2022 20:29

DH can be a bit of an idiot. Getting more right wing in his old age. Went through a stage of reading a load of nonsense online. Jordan Peterson etc.

News was on. And he just turned to me and said

"I've been reading some alternative theory behind all this. And I think it may well be the globalists who have forced Truss out"

When I asked who these globalists were, he just said

"The people in charge. Jeremy Hunt. Banks"

When I started to question it, I could feel it was gonna get into an argument v quickly so I just left to do the laundry

Things have been bad for a while. How batshit barmy is this comment? To me it feels totally crazy. I don't know if I can be with someone who feels so distant in the way he thinks the world works.

What do others think? Am I being ott to think this is some seriously worrying shit coming out his mouth?

I also don't think Jordan Peterson is a right wing nut job.

I think he has some very balanced arguments from what I have seen of him.

You win the satirical comment of the evening trophy. 🏆

Thank you 😊

Well a few of the broadsheets have suggested there is some infighting and backstabbing, and the last time I looked, it was okay to be right wing.
Jordan Peterson is a clinical psychologist, and I have enjoyed studying his research. I don't always agree with him, but the articles I've read are peer reviewed.

I think you both need to calm down a bit and get some fresh air.

Don't be coming here with your tolerance and common sense. The correct form is to encourage the OP to leave her husband immediately for holding a political view she doesn't agree with, and then to be on high alert for any friends or family who might hold similar views so she can jettison them them too. The days of tolerating others views are long gone. Shame on you.

I thought “globalists” was “code” for Jews

It is. The amount of barely veiled hate speech from these types makes me unwell.

My ex is well down the rabbit hole of this shit, he is not the man I met 20 years ago, we split up 15 years ago.

Frankly, he scares me now and I’m glad our teens have gradually distanced themselves from them.

He’s currently not paying his mortgage because he thinks the house can’t be taken from him, due to “common law”. When I asked him WTF he was on about, he just kept saying repeating the sentence.

I'm certain he’s totally lost his grip on reality but there’s fuck all I can do about it.

Sorry OP, but it only took my ex 6 months to go from a normal person to “The Earth is flat” to “Illuminati” and “All actors/scientists are clones/lizard people/take my pick which rabbit hole suits my current narrator this week bullshit” to what i class as, frankly, deeply disturbed.

Meili04 · 20/10/2022 23:41

I'm generally anti conspiracy theory Didn't Lloyds admit they were going to buy up loads of property and rent it out ? Hike up the interest rates then hoover up the repossessions.

So you don't think the fact she says this 'could be the final straw' indicates there may have been other straws and that the relationship generally hasn't been in tip top condition? Hmm?

Talking about “globalists” really does usually mean Jews. It’s almost always thinly disguised antisemitism.

It's incredible naive to think otherwise.

This. globalist

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 20/10/2022 23:47

Clearly not proud enough to capitalise 'tory'. Tut tut.

I cba reading the whole thread however I’d be more concerned about a partner who felt compelled to ask bloody mumsnet what they thought of me! Can’t you decide for yourself?Confused

Proudtory · 20/10/2022 23:52

@Terftrain well said 👋

mathanxiety · 21/10/2022 00:04

This is batshit

Oh the irony, FreddyHG.

shoplifteroftheworld · 21/10/2022 00:13

I didn't realise that Mumsnet had a requirement of only thinking one way politically. My views are all over the place and dependant on the question being asked. Am I allowed to be here?

scaredoff · 21/10/2022 00:16

FreddyHG · 20/10/2022 20:41

This is batshit. Being anti globalists is not antisemitic.

Except when Jeremy Corbyn does it, of course.

@THisbackwithavengeance No, I said it was the final straw. And would I consider leaving my DH because he holds a world view that I think is paranoid and fuelled by right wing conspiracy nut jobs. Yes. Yes I would. I'm not sure I can stay married to someone I don't respect.

I was just interested as how others respond to this comment and any advice.

Politics affects us all.

As an example of.different perspectives of.group s

"The Bilderberg meeting (also known as the Bilderberg Group) is an annual off-the-record conference established in 1954 to foster dialogue between Europe and North America. The group's agenda, originally to prevent another world war, is now defined as bolstering a consensus around free market Western capitalism and its interests around the globe. Participants include political leaders, experts, captains of industry, finance, academia, numbering between 120 and 150. Attendees are entitled to use information gained at meetings, but not attribute it to a named speaker (known as the Chatham House Rule). This is to encourage candid debate, while maintaining privacy—a provision that has fed conspiracy theories from both the left and right."

He probably finds your topics of conversation equally as pointless and tedious. So pathetic to need the approval of batshit mumsnetters and they call him mad! 🤣

FistFullOfRegrets · 21/10/2022 00:48

wb3 · 20/10/2022 21:01

Count yourself lucky.

My DH fancies her Liz Truss.

@wb3

how old is your DH? I'd say if he's over 50, it's not that bad a thing, I think she's got a nice figure. She's not unattractive when she smiles/laughs and I think away from the spotlights, she'd be quite funny & interesting.

PoundShopPrincess · 21/10/2022 00:52

Anti-globalisation protestors have a valid and respected political position.
There have been lots of machinations behind the scenes with Truss. Ironically she's very pro globalisation but her policies were short-sighted in protecting their interests. If you're unhappy with globalists replace with conglomorates, free marketeers, etc.
Fwiw globalisation and globalists are terms used by Harvard, Oxford, The Guardian.

FistFullOfRegrets · 21/10/2022 00:53

I've never heard of globalists = Jews.

@IveGottaGetOutOfThisPlace I would have taken his comment differently.

but the thing is, it doesn't matter what the straw is, you can leave him anytime.

I don't know who JP is, but I assume some conspiracist nut job,.. yeah if that was the tip of the iceberg, then I'd be ending it for sure.

VivX · 21/10/2022 01:33

Isn’t there a difference between globalists (meaning Jews) and globalisation (the increasingly international interdependence) and it sounds like OP's husband thinks he's talking about the latter and it's really about the former?

Has he started in with the 5G and the nanobots conspiracies yet?
Or mentioned that Trump is secretly fighting global child trafficking?
Chemtrails?

Once it gets to a certain point it becomes very difficult to have a rational conversation because the person just starts saying everyone else is "asleep"/a sheep...

FatOaf · 21/10/2022 04:35

Oh look the loony left are out in force again.

After six years of right-wing maniacs dominating the political world and wreaking destruction, there are still people referring to the "loony left"? Hard to believe.

There are views and their are views.

Believing in conspiracy theories are views as they can be harmful to your health and the health of those around you. Then again I've been around people who have had serious episodes of poor mental health from childhood.
