Any Tory voters here who are switching to Labour this time?

Curious because I think this rarely happens and I can't see Labour getting in, I don't think Tory voters change their mind. Am I very wrong? Do you/have you?

Johnson was apparently a liar who was sacked from his first job as a journalist for, erm, lying. He has, in my opinion, undermined the integrity of the CP, and l won't be voting for them again.

tissueachoo · 20/10/2022 19:16

After what Keir said last night at Pink news - No fucking way,

If you think the Tories are bad - just wait and see what Labour have got planned

Starmer seems to be about as centrist as they come, and you still won’t vote for him.

Yeah that's what seems weird to me with many here. If people are saying Starmer's Labour is still too left wing for them then fine they're entitled to that position - but they need to be honest about the fact that they're firmly on the right, not in the centre. And indeed they will "never vote Labour" because there's no way a party could so much as approach the political space they consider acceptable while being even nominally centre-left, even in the most compromising way possible.

That's why a lot of the threads and comments on MN about what's wrong with Labour, where they lost the way, what they need to do before we'll vote for them yada yada are so much hot air. A lot of them are by people who are just never going to vote for a centre-left or even centrist party anyway, regardless of what they propose or who leads them.

What these people really need is a market-friendly party without the Tories' baggage of cronyist entitlement and the arrogance leading to incompetence that springs from it. I just don't understand why they don't look to the lib dems to fill that role. They're a bit of Janus party with much of the membership further left than the MPs, but the orange book tendency is strong and with support from substantial number of disaffected ex-Tories they could be something.

"Apparently"? 😲

I’ve been asked this three times today.

As much as I hate the shambles that we are witnessing, it would still be a cold day in hell before I voted for labour.

Feelinglikeachange22 · 20/10/2022 19:30

However, the complete shit show that the government has descended into, and their lack of awareness about ordinary working people who can't afford to eat/heat their homes/pay their bills or get a mortgage is unbelievable. And don't even get me started on the lack of concern for pensioners or those with disabilities

It's not a lack of awareness it's a lack of concern. Very different things.

maryberryslayers · 20/10/2022 19:30

I'm Tory through and through and even I'm struggling to say I'd vote for them at the moment, even though personally I'd be better off financially if they are in power.
I would like to vote for labour as I'd like to think they'd ensure people had enough money to eat and heat their homes. However, I'm a woman and I have a daughter, so I just can't justify voting for a party that will erase my sex based right and ultimately put women and girls at risk of harm. If they changed their stance on this then I'd consider.

swimmingwithturtles · 20/10/2022 19:47

I have voted conservative and Labour, will be voting Labour this time. I do have concerns about private school fees going up but I can’t vote conservative this time. And I really like Keir, I think he has a good heart and honour

Well of course some of them do, otherwise we'd never get a change of govt. There will be party stalwarts on both sides but a bunch of swing voters in the middle.

That is never going to happen and rightly so.

Yes it's so important to make sure the country's future falls
right off the cliff 🙄
Brexiteers are in a cult. Trouble is, they want to everyone else to commit mass suicide too.

urrrgh46 · 20/10/2022 20:04

I've voted for all major parties and voted Green last time (in a safe Tory seat). I shall read the manifestos but probably will vote either Lib Dem or Labour (can't stand Keri Starmer though - he's just not a leader and that worries me) and don't get me started on Angela Rayner who is just awful and I seriously wonder how she got into the position she holds.

TightDiamondShoes · 20/10/2022 20:05

I’m a party member and am pretty disgusted by them atm.

I really want to believe in KS because I think he’s a man who does what he feels is honourable- but has in the past been let down by his team (hey! Nobody’s immune) - and now finds himself in opposition with a dodgy AF team behind him.

im in a safe Lib Dem seat though and none of the protest parties stand here but I’d vote for a hedgehog at this stage.

Croque · 20/10/2022 20:06

Well, it's the difference between being out in the wilderness confused about almost everything or being out in the wilderness dazed and confused about everything (including how you are classified for what you have between your legs).

Tories brought in the same sex marriage legislation, Margaret Thatcher brought in more Comprehensive Schools than Labour and they have had two women for Prime Minister. Yet people still saying that Tories are not progressive.

As we’ve found out the PM is a mere puppet to what’s going on behind the scenes in government. He could be a bloody saint and I still wouldn’t trust the ship steering him.

OhSunnyMorning · 20/10/2022 22:05

I am done with the Tories but will take the Monster Raving Loony Party over Labour if they appear on the ballot paper.

Tegelflughafen · 20/10/2022 22:27

We'll be like Japan. Same ruling elite but different leader each time I believe. No other parties get a look in.
I can't understand how after 12 years of misrule and ineptitude, particularly the last 6, anyone could still entertain voting for the conservatives. The 'life long tory voter' comments, 'rather stick pins in my eyes' than vote labour stuff, is actually pretty sad. It just means the tories can literally do whatever they want, treat the country with disdain and the country is still stuck with them. Sad thing is, unless there is more wealth redistribution the UK will get more divided and unequal, the whole country will just sink, what with Brexit, austerity mark 2, lack of decent ideas.

Tegelflughafen · 20/10/2022 22:32

@TightDiamondShoes who are the dodgy as fuck team behind him ? Curious to know.
Basically no one can really articulate why they won't vote labour(apart from the single minded GC types). Just pearl clutching hyperbole from folk who probably live in a affluent m/c bubble and have never been effected by tory policies yet..

Thelnebriati · 21/10/2022 00:58

@Tegelflughafen If you've written off objection to self ID you either haven't grasped how wide reaching it is or just don't care. And if you don't care about the rights of an entire class of people, how can you pretend to be a Socialist?

It's because 51% of the electorate are female and labour are committed to ignoring them.

EmmaH2022 · 21/10/2022 01:37

I have voted for both but struggling with the women thing. Can’t vote Conservative. Maybe there’s some sort of independent candidate I can vote for but I appreciate that seems wasteful.

You could say remainers are also in a cult. They demand everyone else conform to their wants. Stamping feet, like children, chanting for rejoin. It's bloody laughable.

TightDiamondShoes · 21/10/2022 09:17

@Tegelflughafen yeh. Definite privilege this end. 🙄 personally I don’t think the militant left have been cast far enough and I couldn’t get behind AR under any circumstances.

Kellie45 · 21/10/2022 09:18

Never keen voting for millionaire ‘socialists’ who send their kids to private schools.
