Tories are NOT on the side of women

RoomOfRequirement · 19/10/2022 14:35

I know the defence of Tories here often is 'at least they know what a woman is' - and they do.

But they use that knowledge of what a woman is to make our lives worse. Over 100 Tory MPs voted against a buffer zone on abortion clinics. They know we're adult human females, who can get pregnant, and they vote to allow us to be harassed because of that.

I'm also GC, and do not believe you can change sex. Gender - sure, I don't care how anyone wants to present or what they want to be called and am happy to oblige - but some things are separated on the basis of sex and should remain that way regardless of presentation.

That said, Tories are not on the side of women, and you need to he aware of that before voting for them based on this 1 issue.

Hate to tell you this but Mordaunt is 2/1 with the bookies to be the next PM.

But perhaps having a pm with a paedophile for a brother will mean that legislature to erode the safeguarding rights of children and to arrest their development in pubescent bodies will, at least, be scrutinized by the media with a less naive lens?

MsMD · 20/10/2022 15:04

lifeturnsonadime · 20/10/2022 14:37

I do know this , I also know that Mr Biden and his democrats were more interested in ensure the rights of men to be women than ensure that this couldn’t happen by enacting primary legislation. Same for Mr Obama before him. If the democrats care so much for women they could have enacted statue law to prevent this overturn.

Sadly the legislation which you request - and I strongly agree is needed - is subject to the filibuster, requiring 60 votes to pass. Republicans, and a couple of 'Democrats' won't sign off on this - thus, we're back where we started. Allowing a bunch of old men and women who cannot get pregnant to tell us what we can and cannot do with our bodies.

But let's not even remotely pretend the Democrats and Republicans are on the same level here.

You really think that? Seriously?

lifeturnsonadime · 20/10/2022 15:14

So tell me mrsMd exactly what the democrats are doing to prevent women from the (perhaps) unintended consequences of TWAW? How are they speaking out against the mutilation of children, fairness for females in sport, prisons and refuges?

The democrats ARE harming women , actively.

Naunet · 20/10/2022 15:16

No party gives a shit about women, you just have to go with the least bad option.

No, I'm pulling your leg. I know how much you like Penny. She seems to be your favourite Tory. The one who would close the loop so that the entire landscape was subsumed by gender woo and women who prioritise the biology of their sex have no avenue to vote.

Naunet · 20/10/2022 15:19

entropynow · 19/10/2022 23:10

And they're idiots to do so, not to mention prejudiced and willing to throw the whole country under a bus to back up their prejudices.
Nul points.

Prejudice?!

I don’t like any Tory, hence I’d like to see the “They know what a woman is” nonsense nipped in the bud.

The SDP seem to know what a woman is:

sdp.org.uk/policies/transgender-and-biological-sex-based-rights/

Are they the only political party to be guaranteeing our rights now?

lifeturnsonadime · 20/10/2022 16:57

I don’t like any Tory, hence I’d like to see the “They know what a woman is” nonsense nipped in the bud.

And I'd like to see Labour nip Trans Women are Women and all of the awful consequences of that to women nipped in the bud.

Then I, and many many other women who are naturally left leaning, might be able to vote for them.

Labour are such a disappointment.

I wish it were nonsense. It's not, hence the thread.

I'm not saying they're great for women. I don't vote Tory. But at the moment, they are the only party that knows what a woman is.

It's ludicrous that it's come to this, but if the others want to get back the voters they've lost over it, they're going to have to do the same.

walkingonsunshinekat · 20/10/2022 17:05

DdraigGoch · 20/10/2022 15:01

The Tories don't give a shit about women. They created the trans shitshow.
Pretty sure that the GRA was enacted in 2004, which was at the height of Blair's reign.

They refused to make misogyny a Hate Crime.
It would be completely unworkable (and would probably end up with "misogyny" meaning "asked a man in a dress to stop perving at girls in the changing rooms"). Frankly I'd like to see Hate Crimes abolished entirely.

But your beloved Tories have had 12.5 years to abolish it, May even enhanced it.

Or are you another Floating Voter lol

You clearly have no idea what a hate crime is or why the offence was bought in.

but if you do, shame on you - no wonder your party is in such a mess.

ehb102 · 20/10/2022 17:20

FourTeaFallOut · 20/10/2022 16:16

Blink twice if the thought police came for you 🤣

Ha! No. It was a weirdly truncated post.

What I was going to say:

If Labour get in then some other people maybe less hungry, but sex self ID will come in and this will vastly affect all women's safety. I don't agree with sex self ID and I certainly don't want gender identity pushed at my child. It's lies. And Labour refusing to acknowledge the conflict of rights and needs, just telling women to put up and shut up, shows they are not a party to represent me. They can't be trusted to tell the truth. They can't be trusted to make decisions to balance a host of needs.

Lib Dems - same but they will also expect my daughter to prostitute herself if she is out of work because "sex work is work". No. Unacceptable.

I have never voted Tory. For years I voted left wing because that was what I thought was the best for the majority. However the majority I was voting for didn't agree with me, they voted Tory. It was rather presumptuous of me to think I knew what was better for them than they did themselves, or so I was told. So now, faced with total destruction of the economy either way and one party that at least doesn't actively want to force destitute women intro prostitution or force them to share space with penis havers, I'm more tempted to vote Tory than I ever have been in my life.

Why is Labour so thick about this? Being a woman is my primary categorisation. It is the most important part of my existence. My body defines me, with its women's problems and female diseases. Saying it's not real is just unbelievable. Are they going to say the pound self identifies as strong?

Blossomtoes · 20/10/2022 18:05

Go on then, vote Tory and see where it gets you. Mordaunt, Nokes and various other Tory MPs take the view you purport Labour does. There’s a very strong chance Mordaunt will be the next PM. Where does that leave you? The damage the Tories have inflicted on women in the last 12.5 years is immeasurable but go ahead and vote for some more.

RudsyFarmer · 20/10/2022 18:10

I don’t want to vote for my rights to be completely trashed. I fully expect Labour to push through reforms similar, if not worse, than the SNP in Scotland.

if they get in then so be it but I’m not helping.

Blossomtoes · 20/10/2022 18:16

I don’t want to vote for my rights to be completely trashed.

Nor do I. Which is why I won’t vote for a party that wants to remove workers’ rights, maternity rights and a whole host of other rights that I’ve spent my life fighting for.

FaazoHuyzeoSix · 20/10/2022 18:22

I hear you OP. The Tories may well know what a woman is but that's not enough to earn my vote.

Gingernaut · 20/10/2022 18:25

SNP, Plaid Cymru, Tories, Greens, Lib Dems, Labour and even the Women's Equality Party are collectively against women.

Where are the GC candidates we can vote for??

AutumnCrow · 20/10/2022 18:35

I've been banging about bloody Mordaunt, Crispin Blunt, Caroline Nokes, Maria Miller et al on here for years.

Mordaunt is very dangerous person.

Neither are the on the side of the GC

It's just a very convenient anti woke vehicle. That, and the xenophobia/brexit vehicle is how they get votes from people who's economic interests they do not actually represent. I think that's becoming clearer of late, if you believe the polls
