The new Work and Pensions secretary sounds lovely. He thinks maternity benefits are too generous and hopes we can row back on them.

What a cunt.

GreenLunchBox · 30/10/2022 21:27

Tassen · 30/10/2022 21:03

@GreenLunchBox yes absolutely lovely NOT.

Mr Stride claimed there was "some evidence" that as maternity policies are made "more generous, the likelihood of a mother with young children returning to work diminishes."

Well somebody needs to tell the Nordic countries that they have got it completely wrong on their maternity/paternity/family policies as its obviously making their economies & standards of living absolutely awful NOT!!!

The frightening thing is this is his brief. He's the Work and Pensions secretary!!

JanetSally · 30/10/2022 21:34

People are allowed have an opinion on abortion.

@Mapleapple

I would expect my mind is more open than many contributing to the thread. I don't need to resort to lies to shore up my stance, for starters.

Being skeptical about someone posted on an internet forum is hardly a sign of a closed mind.

You take the other approach from the liars, that is, to attempt to reduce the topic to absurdity with your idiotic points about bank accounts for unborn children.

Its only right to refer to what they actually are, rather than dehumanise them with medical terms.

A foetus is a human being at a particular stage of life. I doubt you regularly call the elderly "geriatrics", for example.

Note that, in the UK at least, women do not have the "right" to kill their unborn child. That's another lie.

Legislation was introduced to permit abortion to safeguard a woman's health, in circumstances which were thought to be very rare and limited, and strictly controlled by doctors.

In reality, the legislation is widely flouted - that does not equate to a "right".

Well said.

And so many mnetters fall over themselves to say they couldn't possibly vote Labour as only the tories know what a woman is.

Fucking idiots.

The UK is suffering from a collective madness/stupidity

Tassen · 30/10/2022 22:49

You can say that again @GreenLunchBox

It's like Turkeys voting for Christmas.

Every Tory Government I have lived through has been crap economically.
The last Labour government were great even though I didn't vote Labour at the time.

1997 - 2010 we've never had it so good (paraphrasing MacMillan who surprisingly was a Tory but a good one at that. Ironically he borrowed that tag line from the US Democrats - the USA's version of Labour/Liberal)

GreenLunchBox · 02/11/2022 00:01

What are the people who say they can't vote for Labour because they can't define a woman thinking now? I'm not being goady, I'm genuinely asking. I'm in despair about our politics. I want the Tories out because they are destroying our country, but want to know what the feminists are thinking about the feminist issue.

Blossomtoes · 02/11/2022 00:20

Those people have gone very quiet recently.

I'm thinking that I won't vote at all for the first time ever. The quality of politicians and politics generally has taken a nose dive and I don't think any of them are up to the job. I don't make that decision lightly but I can't see a way forward.

I just received this email from BPAS today. No one in the UK should take the availability of safe, legal abortion for granted.

To name and shame the 110 MPs who voted against buffer zones around reproductive health clinics in the House of Commons yesterday?
To name and shame the 110 MPs who voted against buffer zones around reproductive health clinics in the House of Commons yesterday?
Blossomtoes · 04/11/2022 15:08

Jesus. That’s scary. Is there a particular way they recommend for contacting the PM?

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 04/11/2022 15:40

WTF????????

The person who has Ministerial responsibility for Abortion care should at least be neutral & leave their personal views at the door not someone who consistently denies women access to safe abortion.

This government hates women!
They hate everyone, well everyone that's not rich!

FannyCann · 04/11/2022 16:05

There's a link here to send a letter to the PM, which I have done @Blossomtoes (same link in my email but for privacy I can't link that).

Blossomtoes · 04/11/2022 16:09

Thank you @FannyCann. Done. And well done to BPAS for making it so easy.

FannyCann · 04/11/2022 16:13

I've been a bit slack on letter writing recently not least due to being engrossed in the Ink Black heart 1000 pages but finally finished it last night so I will sharpen my pen. My MP was one of the good guys who voted for the buffer zones and I never got round to thanking him but now I can thank him and express my outrage. He's conservative too, so hopefully it's worth it.

GreenLunchBox · 04/11/2022 19:02

I came on here to post about this but FannyCan has beaten me to it

Yep, not only is she Minister for Women but she now specifically has responsibility for abortion policy.

But at least the Tories know what a woman is

🙄🤔

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 04/11/2022 19:34

@GreenLunchBox the Tories think a women/women are the wives from the Handmaidens Tale.

Thanks as well @FannyCann

TooBigForMyBoots · 05/11/2022 00:22

The Tories really have contempt for women. AngryAngryAngry
