Who do you think 'this lot' are in this? You know that MPs are not just Tories, they are from multiple different parties?

Surprised to see my usually appalling (Tory) MP has voted yes.

There's a whole bunch of names in there that are regularly hailed by some on MN as being pro-women, merely because they pay lip service to the trans culture war. It's obvious they don't give two shits about women's rights, they just think it's an easy wedge issue to try to leverage a few more votes.

Blossomtoes · 19/10/2022 12:36

And her platform for protecting women’s spaces.

Indeed, I'd not thought about that! Still, the consensus seems to be that she is rather dim.

OoooohMatron · 19/10/2022 12:39

Not shocked to see mine on there. Turd of a man.

Same here, I'm amazed people keep voting mine in.

LizTrussIsACylon · 19/10/2022 12:43

Fascinating to see so many MPs on the list that voted against that have been praised on here for their "gender critical" views. MPs that have been applauded by Mumsnet for knowing what a woman is etc.

It's almost as if their gender critical stances are not motivated by a desire to protect women's rights after all and that they are instead driven by a desire to stoke the culture war in a bid to secure support from their base.

FannyCann · 19/10/2022 12:44

What many people fail (or refuse) to understand is that "abortion" includes gynaecology/obstetric care of life threatening complications of WANTED pregnancies such as miscarriage which are prone to become septic or cause haemorrhage if not properly treated. Post Roe v Wade normal ob/gyn care in the USA is in pieces now and women are suffering and being put at risk as a result.
Women suffering loss of a wanted pregnancy and fearful of their health have to pass through a walk of shame thanks to these protestors as they access care via an abortion clinic (when they can find one) instead of being cared for in their local hospital. This is what these MPs are condoning.

FlorettaB · 19/10/2022 12:45

Of those who voted against the buffer zone, 24 out of 104 were women - 23%
Of those who voted in favour of the zone, 125 out of 297 were women - 42%

As of March 2022 there are 225 women MPs in the House of Commons - 35%
Representation is essential if you want to to be listened to. This is the first time we’ve had women make up more than a third of MPs. Labour’s all women shortlists have changed the makeup of the House of Commons beyond recognition.

How could you even think such a thing? I’m shocked to the core! 😉.

NightmareSlashDelightful · 19/10/2022 12:51

Just checking for the usual suspects. Chope, Bone, McVey, Rees-Mogg. Yup.

I was just coming on to say that it astounds me that so many on Mumsnet are voting Tory because the Tories know what a woman is. Women's rights and care of vulnerable women is certainly not on the agenda for the likes of Braverman.

LynneBenfield · 19/10/2022 12:55

Not surprised to see my local MP on the OP’s list. Despicable piece of shit that he is. I’ll be writing to him to express my disgust.

satelliteheart · 19/10/2022 12:57

So disappointed to see my MP on this list although sadly not surprised. From what I've seen he makes consistently poor choices in his voting. Here's hoping he gets the boot at the next election, although being in the south east his seat is probably fairly secure

FlorettaB · 19/10/2022 12:58

I loathe the Conservatives but have you looked at the voting figures? All those who voted against the buffer zone are Conservatives (or DUP) but not all those who voted in favour of it are Labour. The Lib Dems, Caroline Lucas and many Conservatives voted in favour of the buffer zone. I haven’t counted but going by the graph the roughly same number of Conservatives voted for as against.

Giggorata · 19/10/2022 13:00

My MP, although Tory, is usually quite libertarian. However, he is Catholic.
I have written to him nonetheless, expressing disappointment and suggesting this should come under the “detest what you say but defend to the death your right to say it” category.

Blossomtoes · 19/10/2022 13:04

Badenoch voted against too. You know, the Badenoch who used protection of women’s spaces as a plank of her leadership campaign. Obviously toilets are more important than women’s health providers. Please can the “At least the Tories know what a woman is” faction now pipe down?

gendercriticalcomingout · 19/10/2022 13:08

And surprise surprise mine is on the list.

KEA321 · 19/10/2022 13:10

I am amazed my MP actually voted yes to something I agree on.

TooBigForMyBoots · 19/10/2022 13:11

YANBU @AngeloMysterioso.

Pixiedust1234 · 19/10/2022 13:17

Thanks for the link OP. However I cant find my MP on any of the three lists which is really weird. Is there a fourth list such as unable to vote?

The MP is entitled to his personal, religious beliefs but they should not be impacting on the public’s right to access legal, essential healthcare services safely and without fear.

Isaidnoalready · 19/10/2022 13:19

Mine didn't vote either fucks sake what is the point of him

Mapleapple · 19/10/2022 13:22

My Tory MP didn’t turn up. Doesn’t surprise me, there was no photo OP or free food. Waste of air that man.

LemonDrop22 · 19/10/2022 13:23

PeekabooAtTheZoo · 19/10/2022 11:50

I don’t think the NI parties should have been allowed to vote since to my knowledge there are no abortion clinics in NI and it only got decriminalised recently because the assembly had collapsed again. A 19 year old was literally prosecuted there two years ago for using abortion pills.

It is awful. But looking down the list, it’s the usual suspects like Rees-Mogg, Braverman and Davies. If they got voted out they’d just be shuffled into a safer seat.

Whole system is pointless and rotten.

There are definitely abortion clinic in Northern Ireland now ... Because there were protesters outside one near me.

Unless they're only "forwarding" women to abortion services there. But I didn't get that impression.

FannyCann · 19/10/2022 13:25

Sorry to be thick but just to clarify, if your MP is recorded as voting Aye then they voted FOR buffer zones?

Mine is an Aye So I want to drop him a note of thanks unless I've got it all wrong? ConfusedBlush

Badenoch is a long term free speech voter, like David Davies (who apparently didn't vote this time).

There are two clear groups in the "no" list. Those who use any opportunity to hack away at reproductive rights eg Rees-Mogg, happy to profit from abortion pills but always votes against reproductive rights and those whose argument is free speech based.

Its a mistake to conflate them simply because votes coincide on one issue. Some of the free speech fundamentalists have used the self same arguments in favour of women's individual liberty on reproduction and rights to speak on other issues.
