Disgusting! Women must not be abused when attending any centre for an abortion. Lunatic fringe pro-lifers from the USA should be deported. Labour should commit to buffer zones.

Lalalalalalala I refuse to hear anything that disagrees with my view points. Just write that, would save time.

Do your rights of a foetus extend to other areas? Should men be forced to pay child support for foetuses? should parents receive child benefit from the point of conception? should we be able take out life insurance policies on foetuses? open bank accounts?

Or is it just an “unborn child” for the purposes of trampling on women’s rights?

Blossomtoes · 19/10/2022 15:17

People who defend the killing of unborn children tell lies as naturally as breathing, of course, as we have seen on the thread

Oh the irony. If I were you I’d take my shame and guilt inducing views somewhere else. You quite clearly haven’t read the room - or society generally.

newsaint · 19/10/2022 15:19

@AngeloMysterioso

I don't know how to repeat your picture, but I don't think the unshaven, cap wearing, tattooed individual is likely typical of the people who attend vigils.

Not least as he is not offering support, but only being confrontational - as you say.

"false flag" activities are quite common, to provide grounds for some legislation where none exist naturally.

Where is the location pictured, what group does the man represent etc? Usually such people identify themselves.

This is debated in scotland right now.

Suddenly during the debate, 2 men - un-named and from an unknown organisation - started appearing outside a sexual health clinic - where abortions are not carried out - with similar harsh signs, shouting the odds.

Amazingly, the MSP responsible for a bill in parliament also turned up at the exact same time with a megaphone, to shout back at them.

I'm sure it was all by chance and she just happened to have her megaphone on her that that day. I mean, who goes anywhere without their megaphone these days?

And all outside a location where abortions do not actually take place, so no-one going for an abortion would have been upset by this charade.

newsaint · 19/10/2022 15:22

@Blossomtoes

What irony? Do you know what irony means?

If others feel guilt because some value human life and think we should be properly responsible for our own actions, that is unfortunate - but its not those positive, and wholly reasonable values which are causing their guilt.

Mapleapple · 19/10/2022 15:22

“False flag”?? Wow you are one of “those” people. Big fan of Alex Jones by any chance?

Blossomtoes · 19/10/2022 15:26

Do you know what irony means?

Yes, you don’t though apparently. Go away.

newsaint · 19/10/2022 15:30

@Mapleapple

I would expect my mind is more open than many contributing to the thread. I don't need to resort to lies to shore up my stance, for starters.

Being skeptical about someone posted on an internet forum is hardly a sign of a closed mind.

You take the other approach from the liars, that is, to attempt to reduce the topic to absurdity with your idiotic points about bank accounts for unborn children.

Its only right to refer to what they actually are, rather than dehumanise them with medical terms.

A foetus is a human being at a particular stage of life. I doubt you regularly call the elderly "geriatrics", for example.

Note that, in the UK at least, women do not have the "right" to kill their unborn child. That's another lie.

Legislation was introduced to permit abortion to safeguard a woman's health, in circumstances which were thought to be very rare and limited, and strictly controlled by doctors.

In reality, the legislation is widely flouted - that does not equate to a "right".

RedDwarfGarbagePod · 19/10/2022 15:30

So what measures do you propose, @newsaint, for ensuring that children born have a decent quality of life? I assume you're pro free school meals / child benefit / the NHS / subsidised childcare / a living wage so parents can afford to feed their offspring / good maternity provision so that women can comfortably bond with their babies and keep a roof over their head? Pro whatever else it takes for women who feel that they have no choice but to have an abortion to have another option? Pro ensuring that useless men have to pay for their children instead of just vanishing and being ignored by the courts?

And that's laying aside the issue of women's bodily autonomy. To what extent do you believe that other people can be forced to allow the use of their bodies for others' benefit? Forced organ donation?

jcyclops · 19/10/2022 15:31

It's interesting that immediately after the buffer zones amendment was included in the Bill (division 62 votes.parliament.uk/Votes/Commons/Division/1368), the third reading of the Bill was voted on (division 64 votes.parliament.uk/Votes/Commons/Division/1370).

All those conservatives being demonised above voted FOR it and the saintly Labour/LD/SNP voted AGAINST it.

Giggorata · 19/10/2022 15:34

newsaint · 19/10/2022 15:07

@Giggorata

detest what you say but defend to the death your right to say it

To be fair, there is quite a gulf between tolerating views you don't agree with (which is reasonable) and viewing human life as a disposable by-product of meaningless sex (which is not reasonable).

Quite a gulf indeed.

What a strange interpretation to put on what I said…

“Disposable by product of meaningless sex?”

Nothing at all like that in my original post.

DnaDna · 19/10/2022 15:35

You don’t have to be a big bloke in bovver boots to be a deeply unpleasant human being. I was approached by a little old lady outside an abortion clinic who was holding a placard with a picture of an aborted foetus and softly whispered ‘abortion is murder’ to me while I was collecting my friend who had just terminated a pregnancy after being raped by her ex-partner.

I assumed that little old lady was mentally ill. I can’t think why else one would choose to do such a thing.

gendercriticalcomingout · 19/10/2022 15:37

That was for @newsaint

lifeturnsonadime · 19/10/2022 15:38

Newsaint

We get it you think that the unborn child is of more value than their mothers.

You do not think that women should have autonomy over their bodies.

You see women as expendable, birthing vessels. Lesser humans and less deserving than the foetus

You can preach at us all you want but we can see you for what you are,

miceonabranch · 19/10/2022 15:38

It's funny how these anti abortion protestors don't campaign against poverty, domestic abuse and murder of women and children, child abuse, adequate housing, healthcare and education, women's rights etc. They're very much a one trick pony. What do they think happens to unwanted children once they're born? Neglect? Abuse? Hunger? Poverty? Homelessness? Mental illness? Domestic violence? Or are they supposed to be given up for adoption as if that's the answer. If only it were that easy.

Don't police what goes on in someone else's internal organ. It's got nothing to do with anyone other than the owner of that organ.

Boomboom22 · 19/10/2022 15:42

Maybe new saint is a parody? Hope so! Reported their vilest post.

miceonabranch · 19/10/2022 15:42

Religious people. Interfering with human rights for two thousand years now. They also believe in ensuring terminally ill and elderly people suffer at end of life. Spreading misery and hardship wherever they go.

floradora · 19/10/2022 15:44

Apologies if anyone else has made this point and I missed it, but isn't this the same Conservative party who is pushing for a Public Order Bill, under which anyone who has protested in the previous 5 years can be forced to "submit to ... being fitted with, or the installation of, any necessary apparatus" to monitor your movements. Or does that just apply to the tofu-eating ones Sue Ellen Braverman hates? They seem to want to be the only arbiters of what constitutes a "nuisance" and what is free speech.

pointythings · 19/10/2022 15:46

When it comes to a choice between believing someone who claims sainthood and calls people liars, and people speaking from their own experience (not to mention my own experience of having seen these protests) the choice is really fairly straightforward.

Mapleapple · 19/10/2022 15:49

@newsaint - My points were logical. If you believe a foetus has more human rights than it’s mother, why are the things I list absurd. And a foetus isn’t a human. It’s a potential human contingent on the mental and physical well-being of its mother and the physical well-being of the foetus itself.

But I am sure you sleep soundly at night in the knowledge your version of God wants children to be born, but then doesn’t give a shit if they die, or starve, or freeze or live in abject poverty and misery. All hail the newsaint’s God, who loves foetuses but hates women and children. Men are alright though eh. Pray about it, I am sure God will say yes, do continue to be absolute shits to women, I love it.

Jesus Christ, fuck the religious right (and then force them to carry to term).

Fishnett · 19/10/2022 15:50

I agree with you @newsaint.

Interesting to read about women who have been pleased to see pro-lifers outside Marie Stopes etc., and been helped to keep their baby: From the Irish Times

Fishnett · 19/10/2022 15:54

This is the sort of scary violent protest that would be banned: Tweet

AnorLondo · 19/10/2022 15:56

And all outside a location where abortions do not actually take place, so no-one going for an abortion would have been upset by this charade.

Yes, many of these women-harassing scum (and their defenders) are quite stupid.
