It really is a shit show now.

I wonder would Rishi be able to right the ship?

hesbeingabitofadick · 19/10/2022 17:06

Suella ends her resignation letter:

"I wish my successor good luck."

Grant might just need that!

boys3 · 19/10/2022 17:07

Shapps is a Hunterati isn’t he? Safe until a general election I’d say.

how long until Cleverly gets removed?

FinallyHere · 19/10/2022 17:07

"an honest mistake"

Interesting.

Can we infer that the people who don't resign after a mistake ... made a dishonest mistake ?

ilovesooty · 19/10/2022 17:07

Delighted that the repulsive Braverman is gone. The idea of Grant Shapps as Home Secretary is laughable.

hesbeingabitofadick · 19/10/2022 17:09

Am I the only one that thinks SB has deliberatly broken the Ministerial code in order to resign whilst sending Liz a really obvious message in her resignation letter?

Pretending we haven't made mistakes, carrying on as if everyone can't see that we have made them, and hoping that things will magically come right is not serious politics. I have made a mistake; I accept responsibility; I resign.

I was just going to post that. It really feels quite calculated doesn't it. She sent a document that is about to go public to a trusted colleague and then immediately rushes round telling everyone, followed by resignation and the very pointed letter.

EdieLedwell · 19/10/2022 17:14

From Twitter: Is that honest mistake being a fascist?

This is exactly what I think.

She made this mistake TODAY. I think it was probably deliberate, and deliberately mild. That's a short time in which for a mistake to be discovered and acted on.

Though there may have been pressure to resign for some pretext, with a big "or else" from Hunt.

EdieLedwell · 19/10/2022 17:15

Also from Twitter: Yes she's made mistakes, but then again, Tofu to mention

🤣

MarshaBradyo · 19/10/2022 17:15

The wrong email seems to be a front - listening to Times

Furious at the change of direction

boys3 · 19/10/2022 17:19

Yvette Cooper raising point in House now

hesbeingabitofadick · 19/10/2022 17:23

@boys3 anything interesting? I can't get to the telly.

No - beyond the deputy speaker confirming that he’d received notice of her exit but no confirmation of the government intending to make a statement to Parliament about it. Or not today at least. The last bit said with a smirk and received with laughter in the House. Not a packed one😀

hesbeingabitofadick · 19/10/2022 17:30

Cheers, Boys3.

It wouldn't surprise me.

MumofHorace · 19/10/2022 18:01

I keep thinking, yeah, it does feel quite calculated. And then I think oh don’t be ridiculous, these are grown ups.

Or she was forced to resign by someone (Hunt) who has maybe just been looking for any reason to force her out? She didn’t seem like someone desperate to resign yesterday, even if today she’s furious.

I'd love to see them on one of those Haribo adverts where they talk with silly childish voices. Well they aren't much use so we might as well have a laugh.

The Sun reporting that the Tory chief whip has resigned..

Sounds crazy there

Bit worrying actually

Alexandra2001 · 19/10/2022 19:20

Yes its unbelievable, CH4 covering the same story. Their political editor thinks Truss could be gone by tomo......

Said on another thread, we are acting like a 1980s South American right wing country.

Igotjelly · 19/10/2022 19:27

MPs being physically manhandled in the voting lobbies!

sunnydaytoday0 · 19/10/2022 19:31

Discipline completely broken down now in the government. Goodness knows what will happen in the next 24 hours.

That is shocking. Surely something has to be done about that.
