.Mordaunt lied about the Turkey/EU/UK veto situation to push Brexit through on the xenophobic vote
.Mordaunt spouted 'TWAW' and 'TWAM' from the despatch box the minute she got the chance so that would become government policy if she is PM
.Mordaunt is reputed to be lazy
.Mordaunt throws her staff under the bus when she has messed up (again)
.Mordaunt is a huge hypocrite on environmental matters

She is one of the 'talentless' Cabinet members that Charles Walker was so furious about, and rightly so. We do not need another one in charge of what already is a debacle.

SleeplessInEngland · 20/10/2022 14:20

Christ, they're letting members have the final say. Because that went so well last time.

BirmaBrite · 20/10/2022 14:21

In somes ways Johnson is the only candidate with any legitimacy, he was voted to be the PM during the last GE, the country didn't get rid of him, his party did. I think he would go for it , imagine how much he could ramp up his public speaking fee's 'the man who was PM twice during one term in parliament'

RedToothBrush · 20/10/2022 14:21

Mordaunts brother is an issue too.

Think about things in terms of security or in terms of a GE.

She's far from ideal.

Plus she just strikes me as Truss #2

EdieLedwell · 20/10/2022 14:22

All Penny Mordant has is a good Speaking voice and the ability to rock an Aliceband IMO.

CaveMum · 20/10/2022 14:22

I suspect that they will verbally say that Members will get a say, but that when it becomes clear who the two main candidates are, one will be very heavily leant on to stand aside with the promise of a good Cabinet post.

the80sweregreat · 20/10/2022 14:22

Another leadership battle?
It's really not fair is it ?
How much more shit do they want us to put up with ?

Oh how on earth will that work in a week?

Seems to me that the Brexit loving far right wing of the ERG has been ruling the party for a long time now.

A Tory PM's credentials (along with Ministers etc.) were/are predicated on the strength of their support for Brexit no matter what. I feel this has led to less than stellar leaders over the years, who have been promoted beyond their capability solely based on their ability to push the Brexit agenda.

I don't know much about Mordaunt. Is she ERG and is she capable of uniting the various infighting wings? Forget the economy (stupid), it's all about power and Brexit.

Lonelycrab · 20/10/2022 14:22

@Lonelycrab - yes, but is she reasonably up to it?

No, I think she’s not. None of them are anymore. There should be a GE but there won’t be. It’s just what I think is most likely, given where we are.

Is he running?

i just let the Ocado driver know Truss has resigned he said Boris coming back 😂

But I doubt it

Brexit was the consequence of a Tory party embracing the hard right policies. The problem with UK politics and the Tory party goes a long way before Brexit.

Hard right?
The tories have gifted more money to the public than any government before it.

Notonthestairs · 20/10/2022 14:23

Brexit was the consequence of a Tory party embracing the hard right policies. The problem with UK politics and the Tory party goes a long way before Brexit.

Brexit was the consequence of Cameron trying to face down the hard ring wing in his party and bring it under control.

Brexit is the logical consequence of the long term euroscepticism that was never based in economic realities once that part of the Tories got control of the party.

hesbeingabitofadick · 20/10/2022 14:24

Nadine Dorries for PM!

😉

@RedAppleGirl erm… we’re all paying back that ‘gifted money’ now…

Maggiethecat · 20/10/2022 14:13

What are Penny’s credentials? Been said that she is a bit work shy.

What are we really all in for??

Plummy voice, a head of hair that some people have commented they find 'lovely', and shmoozing in the tea rooms.

RedToothBrush · 20/10/2022 14:26

My gut is that MPs will want someone who is a known quantity and has demonstrated they aren't a fruitloop and have proven themselves as able to handle a shit show. That would rule out Mordaunt, Braverman and Badenoch to an extent.

It would favour Javid, Sunak and actually Johnson (yes really)

If you want experienced hands, then the list looks a lot shorter.

BirmaBrite · 20/10/2022 14:26

How about Tom Tugendhat ?

MermaidEyes · 20/10/2022 14:27

Well, if Boris gets in, his first appointment with the King, Charles will be muttering "Back again? Dear oh dear".

While it is all very jolly 'slagging off' people who rad the Guardian etc (stuff that isn't owned by Murdoch ) you need to read articles from around the world to get as perspective of where the UK is now, to which things look very bleak.Since the 2016 referendum the status of the UK has been on a gradual slide downwards with occasions of rapid descent caused by some ridiculously undiplomatic statements where even the threat of ripping up the NI Protocol sends other world leaders looking for their smelling salts..World leaders are looking for the UK to find a stable and reliable leader and can't see one. The UK has no empire and has aggravated dealings with many countries so it will be an interesting time now that I see Truss has resigned.

TokyoSushi · 20/10/2022 14:30

Fck me, they're saying it's going to be Johnson again aren't they?!!
