Not to make BF this food anymore - Bacon

My best friend loves to eat bacon sandwiches as do i and my family. The issue is that she always calls them ‘bacon butties’ and says this with great relish. “Ooh bacon butty!” She calls other sandwiches “sandwiches”.
I was brought up being told that people who said Butty rather than sandwich were incredibly common. Whenever she says this , it really irritates me. I haven’t said anything.
Am in being unreasonable just to not serve this when she comes over to minimise the irritation . Or do I tell her how much this bothers me and serve her something she loves.
Do others hate this too?

DOI grumpy old woman with Perimenopausal grump.
As a side Issue , it’s tomato ketchup not tomato sauce!

Sorry but bacon comes in a butty and everything else is a sandwich. It's not restricted to those low class commoners. It's just a fact.

Tansytea · 16/10/2022 09:43

I voted YABU because your bacon butty sounds absolutely awful. Ketchup should be kept far away from bacon, brown sauce is the only reasonable option.

WhileMyGuitarGentlyWeeps · 16/10/2022 09:58

Eee what's wrong with ya @olympicsrock I LUV me a buttie. Not bacon as I don't eat meat, but crisp butties, cheese butties, jam butties...

Butties, butties, butties, butties, butties butties, butties, butties, butties, butties butties, butties, butties, butties, butties butties, butties, butties, butties, butties butties, butties, butties, butties, butties butties, butties, butties, butties, butties

MMMMMM BUTTIES! Grin

TitoMojito · 16/10/2022 10:01

If you're judging people on how they refer to a sandwich, then you're being a twat. And I'd rather be common than a twat.

QOD · 16/10/2022 10:03

It’s a bacon buppy here or more simply ‘bacon?’
which I then present in either a part bake baguette, bread n butter, toast n butter or whatever roll I have

QOD · 16/10/2022 10:04

Oh and always mayonnaise for me and ketchup for dh

recoveringa · 16/10/2022 10:08

It's a 'Rasher sandwich' where I live 😮

FleeUpFreeTime · 16/10/2022 10:14

I love a bacon butty

A hot filling between two slices of bread = butty - bacon butty, chip butty, sausage butty.

A cold filling between two slices of bread = sandwich.

I'm afraid this is wrong. All sandwiches made with slices of bread, no matter the filling, are in fact butties. Egg butties, cheese butties, ham butties, bacon butties, chip butties, cheese and tomato butties etc. Bacon in a roll or bap on the other hand is not a bacon butty, as if doesn't involve slices of bread. It's just a bacon roll or a bacon bap.

For those who say tomato ketchup, is there another kind of ketchup I’m not aware of?

Banana ketchup/sauce! 🙂

I understand op, my son has start started say 'cuppa' with gusto rather than cup of tea. Is it an over reaction to throw him out?

No Send him on his way

Antaboo · 16/10/2022 10:36

Totally agree. The only place a lounge exists is in an airport.

x2boys · 16/10/2022 10:43

It's a regional thing ,
My dh and son both take butties to work and school ,we are in the Northwest.

Not where I live they don't.
We have ham butties ,cheese butties ,jam butties ,chip butties etc etc.

derxa · 16/10/2022 10:50

Growing up we didn't call it bacon either. It was ham and egg

Ship · 16/10/2022 10:56

im in the north west. It’s a bacon butty. Also we have chip butties. Amazing

Brefugee · 16/10/2022 10:58

But since you ask, I can't imagine a single English individual of any social class referring to either a bacon sandwich or a chip sandwich without a self-conscious tension in their shoulders. For these specific fillings, "butty" transcends class. It's a triumph of linguistic egalitarianism.

yes to this

MyOtherCarIsAPorsche · 16/10/2022 10:59

Butty here.

Bacon has to be crozzled.

😉

SixChancellorsInAMoneyTree · 16/10/2022 11:00

I thought ‘Burris’ was a Northern thing?

Londoner here and it’s bacon sarnie.

YABU to be snobby about your friend.

SixChancellorsInAMoneyTree · 16/10/2022 11:00

Burris = buttie argh

PinkArt · 16/10/2022 11:06

Just tell her you find her 'incredibly common' and I'm sure you won't need to worry about making her bacon butties OR sandwiches in future.
How new money of you 🙃

red4321 · 16/10/2022 11:10

I also think bacon butty transcends class (most posh people I know would describe it as a butty).

Tangentially, my son was crabbing in Padstow recently (which is firmly red-trousered) and the family next to us were constantly talking about the crabs preferring the smoked Waitrose bacon they were using. We'd bought ours from the equivalent of Spar as I'll be damned if I'm feeding sodding crabs food from Waitrose.

Floydthebarber · 16/10/2022 11:12

Sarnie. No, just no.
Butty, only ever acceptable for chips.

No sauce for me. Nice white bread or a roll, fried dry cure, unsmoked back bacon until crispy but not hard, even better with a rasher of streaky smoked too. Piled onto a slice of bread, the other slice then lightly dipped in the fat from frying.

Although I did try marmelade as recommended by Felicity Cloake in the Guardian. It was a winner.
