Not to make BF this food anymore - Bacon

My best friend loves to eat bacon sandwiches as do i and my family. The issue is that she always calls them ‘bacon butties’ and says this with great relish. “Ooh bacon butty!” She calls other sandwiches “sandwiches”.
I was brought up being told that people who said Butty rather than sandwich were incredibly common. Whenever she says this , it really irritates me. I haven’t said anything.
Am in being unreasonable just to not serve this when she comes over to minimise the irritation . Or do I tell her how much this bothers me and serve her something she loves.
Do others hate this too?

DOI grumpy old woman with Perimenopausal grump.
As a side Issue , it’s tomato ketchup not tomato sauce!

For those who say tomato ketchup, is there another kind of ketchup I’m not aware of?

Mushroom

FangsForTheMemory · 16/10/2022 08:05

If you are lucky enough to live near a Dishoom, go in and have their bacon naan roll. Cream cheese and chilli ketchup. It’s a whole other experience.

HikingforScenery · 16/10/2022 08:05

“Sarnie “ just makes me want to punch something

I don’t say “butty” but don’t mind it.

I don’t understand the love for bacon

Several.

My favourite…

I do understand where you are coming from with this. I have always said sandwich (or roll if it is served in a roll), however, as much as it may not match my own choice of vocabulary, I certainly wouldn't raise it with a friend. I'm pretty sure I say things which irritate them too, but we're all different and I'm happy to accept that.

The addition of butter to a bacon sandwich, on the hand...just no!!! I'm not entirely sure why but the thought really turns my stomach! And if using back bacon I have to trim off the fat, or if any remains it has to be crisp enough to be brittle. I hate the idea of chewing on fat.

Anamechangeisasgoodasarest · 16/10/2022 08:08

I put mayonnaise in my bacon sandwiches.

Shlomping1234 · 16/10/2022 08:08

Chip butty and bacon butty. Everything else is a sandwich. Oh and with Tommy K 😋

FabFitFifties · 16/10/2022 08:08

I had a bacon sandwich - in a dry baguette, with brown sauce last night. However, if it was in a bun, I wouldn't turn a hair, if someone called it a butty. A butty has to be a bun. Same with chips. No such thing as a sausage butty though - surely it's sausage sandwich. Sounds right! I feel the same about "red sauce" though. Really grates. My son is the only one who eats "tomato sauce".

olympicsrock · 16/10/2022 08:11

@Terftrain I don’t normally say teeth itch . I was just trying out a phrase I’d read on mumsnet for size…

I don’t desperately like sarnie either it just doesn’t give me the same level of irritation.

@MREX suspect you have not yet experienced the intense irritation of things that being perimenopausal creates… Did you not read the OP where I described myself as a grumpy old woman

To the poster who suggested that I have my bacon sandwich on a doily in my lounge… I don’t much like the word Lounge 😂 - prefer living room/ sitting room. We always eat them at the table ( far less messy)

@AtleastitsnotMonday I haven’t mentioned it over 15 years of friendship hence considering a different solution.

It is very poor form to describe anyone’s behaviour as “unspeakably common”. It is deeply LMC to describe people in this way.

christmassausages · 16/10/2022 08:14

You're all wrong - every single one of you! It's a bacon BAP 🥓 😂

LikeTearsInRain · 16/10/2022 08:14

It’s actually catsup not ketchup. How common you must be OP

HarvestTimeMuthafluffa · 16/10/2022 08:16

Bacon butty all the way 🥓

violetglow7 · 16/10/2022 08:18

Sorry to say, but if you think someone calling food a certain name makes them appear "common" then you sound very snooty and up yourself.

Singlebutmarried · 16/10/2022 08:21

Bacon sarnie. Snag Sanger.

Though my smoked bacon this morning will encased in a freshly baked roll (little ciabatta thing from Asda) smeared with mayo, with sliced tomato and lots of black pepper.

Fairislefandango · 16/10/2022 08:24

YABU. I call them bacon sandwiches, but objecting to 'butty' on the grounds of it being 'common' makes you sound like Hyacinth Bucket. Do you also eat yours with a knife and fork, with your plate on a doily, using an embroidered serviette?

But since you ask, I can't imagine a single English individual of any social class referring to either a bacon sandwich or a chip sandwich without a self-conscious tension in their shoulders. For these specific fillings, "butty" transcends class. It's a triumph of linguistic egalitarianism.

Really? I had to laugh, although I did think your prose was elegant

THIS!!!

The thing with bacon and chips is...when they are put between slices of bread they are most definitely comfort food. This elevates their status SIGNIFICANTLY, and by calling them a 'sandwich' it just falls flat of what you're wanting/needing from them!!

These are the only two fillings I ever refer to as a butty...and they are the King of comfort foods. One requires brown sauce, the other ketchup.

OP...you are definitely, and SIGNIFICANTLY 😉 unreasonable!! Not only do you need to give your friend her bacon butty...you also need to reevaluate your own thinking on this very matter 🤔🤣👍

Canihaveacoffeepleasexx · 16/10/2022 08:27

I say bacon sandwich. Red sauce really irritates me as does tomato sauce 😆 it’s interesting how people from different places refer to it

AgathaMystery · 16/10/2022 08:28

Revolvingwhore · 16/10/2022 05:59

Bacon banjos, they're called around these here parts.

Cheering to see this!!!

ShowOfHands · 16/10/2022 08:32

Nobody I know says "butty" and here, they're just sandwiches.

I physically can't say butty. I'm from the Midlands originally and was teased about my flat vowels when we moved south. I have an entirely neutral accent now but don't know where to start with butty or butcher for example. They don't fit in mouth.

I don't like any affectations for food really. Sarnie is awful. Spag bol, Tommy k, jacket pots etc? Unbearable. I can't bear descriptions of eating either. Picking at, munching on, nibbling, choking down and so on.

MayISuggestSomeThickCutSteakChipsToGoWithThat · 16/10/2022 08:34

It's a bacon butty and red sauce here. Chips between 2 slices of bread is also called a BUTTY

Blowyourowntrumpet · 16/10/2022 08:35

It's a bacon cob or a bacon butty.

forevercooking · 16/10/2022 08:35

Bacon butty or a sausage sarnie here 😂
