When he left, he seemed to imply he may...?

OP posts:
the80sweregreat · 20/10/2022 21:09

He really would win it.
This is what worries me snd I feel ( for what it's worth) he is far more popular than Kier Starmer is too

entropynow · 20/10/2022 21:09

Anyone who thinks he should is both a fool and a knave, just as he is himself.
The End

sashagabadon · 20/10/2022 21:10

Party gate is over now, no point going round and round. If Boris gets back in 10 Downing Street he’ll retain his majority and mandate and no need for an election. Tory mp’s will back him and the members and most of the silent majority that thought partygate was ridiculous

Lonelycrab · 20/10/2022 21:10

He knows how to get people talking about him

Only in a sidebar of shame type way. Guess that’s what it’s coming to.

The rest of the world thinking: you are a joke now.

But hey, if you’ve only got two years left, best get the party started while we can and who better than Johnson for that.

the80sweregreat · 20/10/2022 21:11

Boris Johnson could unite the party.
Fills me with dread , but I know people who like him and would vote for him again

Morceaux · 20/10/2022 21:11

It just goes to show how far the Conservative Party, and the country as a whole has fallen.

Turfed out by his own MPs just a few months ago, as they determined he was unfit to hold office any longer.

Now we’ve tried Liz Fucking Truss and are apparently out of ideas! 😂

He was completely unable to unite them just a few months ago…

hesbeingabitofadick · 20/10/2022 21:12

Bookies have shortened his price from 11/4 to 9/4 about 20mins ago.

Isleoftights · 20/10/2022 21:12

A clear second in the betting tonight, and if he makes the final two.....he wins, simple as. Come on Boris !

Lonelycrab · 20/10/2022 21:14

Liz Fucking Truss

Liz fracking Truss, that’s one thing she did achieve Hmm

The Tory party are a disgrace at the moment.

However Boris is immeasurably popular with the population.

@RedAppleGirl do you have some evidence for that?

I really doubt Labour would be fearful of Johnson coming back - it would be a gift to them in many ways. The fact that he's on bloody holiday now says so much. Disgusting man.

And Sunak too - he was implicated in much of what went on in Johnson's regime and the fact that he is seen as some kind of economic guru just shows the paucity of talent in the Tory party now. He was chancellor for 2 years, most of which was in the pandemic so he implemented a furlough scheme of the sort that was being rolled out all over the world - he didn't invent furlough and there were many flaws with the version he put in place. Yes, he foresaw the disaster that Truss's plans caused, but afaics everyone with so much as a GCSE in economics foresaw that. Brown was chancellor for 10 years - 10 years! That's experience. Just because the Tories switch the offices of state around like musical chairs now doesn't mean that Sunak is some kind of experienced safe pair of hands.

And why are they potentially allowing their crazy members an online sodding vote to choose the PM when unions have to jump through all manner of hoops and use a postal vote to go on strike?

I have never felt to angry and disenfranchised.

@sashagabadon do you really think that the families of the 1000s of people who died alone of covid while Boris held illegal parties think that it is over?

duvetdrama · 20/10/2022 21:16

I'm being dim here but how could Boris Johnson make a comeback if he was so unpopular he had to go only 2 or 3 months ago?

Is that evidence?
An out of date poll.

Do tell what you think Boris has done since the end of August that might have miraculously changed his popularity, from being the worst of any PM (until Truss)?

RedRiverShore2 · 20/10/2022 20:43

I'm probably being a bit thick here but have these three said they are running if they have already got votes or is it presumed that they are, I thought they didn't know yet

No, AFAIK no-ones declared, and won't do so unless and until they are within touching distance of enough votes to be taken seriously.

So right now it's all back-room horse-trading, and that's the sort of thing GuidoFawkes has been blogging about for years (might even be decades now!)

Would you like an up to date poll about the Tories popularity?

www.electoralcalculus.co.uk/prediction_main.html

Tories 48 seats, SNP 52 as the mid range prediction...

Chillywilly93 · 20/10/2022 21:22

He's coming back, calling it now. It'll be between him and Rishi and the tories will give him the leadership again. I suppose the justification is that if we can't have a general election (or the tories simply won't allow it to happen), then Boris probably is the one who should be in charge as he is who initially won the vote i.e he is the democratically elected leader, despite all his faults

veryveryberry · 20/10/2022 21:23

SNP will be hoping so...he's brilliant for the independence cause 😆

Nonsense.
There are very few people understand the implications of both the budget and the economic impact of covid. Especially social media posters.

HRTQueen · 20/10/2022 21:24

I’m not sure if enough people do despise Johnson who are floating voters

he has always been a vote winner and has a popularity that’s hard to explain/understand. It’s something that Starmer does not have people are not drawn to him but I think many respect him

I think it’s better for Labour if Johnson doesn’t become leader again as it’s just too unpredictable what will happen

I’d be worried about Sunak, were I a Labour voter. I don’t think he’s particularly tarred by being in government with Boris.

Starmer, who can best be described as vanilla-but-competent, needs to be up against someone of questionable competence (Johnson, Truss) in order for people to vote for him out of necessity.

Sunak similarly comes across as sensible and diligent, which rather negates Keir’s main selling point.

hesbeingabitofadick · 20/10/2022 21:28

Rishi drifting, now 5/6.

Erica56 · 20/10/2022 21:29

No way. Big no to Boris. He’s under investigation
