When he left, he seemed to imply he may...?

I imagine it is a shoo-in for Boris now. Assuming he can get 100 backers then it doesn't matter if Sunak gets 250, Boris will be on the ballot. The swivel-eyed loons of the Tory party will almost certainly vote him back in.

SleeplessInEngland · 20/10/2022 22:38

I forgot the bit where he annoys the shit out of lamebrains who can't see the EU for what it is.

Yeah, the world is definitely looking at the uk now and thinking it really has its shit together thanks to being out of the EU. A very strong, stable nation.

ManAboutTown · 20/10/2022 22:42

@SleeplessInEngland - take a look around the EU.

The lights are probably going off in Germany over the winter. The resistance to Macron in France is growing and Giorgia Meloni is about to become PM of Italy.

Meanwhile the most incompetent minister in Merkel's last government is floating around with her head in the clouds in Brussels supposedly running the show.

I'm starting to think most people on here don't read anything more intellectually challenging than the Mirror

SleeplessInEngland · 20/10/2022 22:44

Our national grid has warned of winter blackouts and our government is polling at 20%. Spare us the desperate whataboutery.

ManAboutTown · 20/10/2022 22:52

I am not claiming things here are great far from it but being in the EU won't make things better

AnnesBrokenSlate · 21/10/2022 00:05

So far the UK is the only European country preparing for 3 hour power cuts. This country is a mess.
The Tories have systematically trashed everything. And they're hoping idiots will buy the 'it's the same everywhere' line. It isn't. This is on them and their corruption.

notprettybeautiful · 21/10/2022 00:41

What a god awful mess. I remember feeling so hopeful when Corbyn almost got into power a few years back... Like surely, even if he never becomes PM, the political landscape is changed forever. LOL. It's funny though, everything they accused him of, the Tories and/or Tory lites have actually done. People only think about that the BBC and tabloids tell them to think. Whoever controls the narrative controls public opinion. Look at what's happening in Russia over the Ukraine war. Not much different to here. And now we have the public order bill too. It's all so depressing.

RedRiverShore2 · 21/10/2022 05:58

Thank you, @VikingVolva , I thought I had missed something, so they probably won't declare until later today or over the weekend, I was expecting then to say yesterday evening and wondered why they hadn't

StarlightLady · 21/10/2022 06:34

There is no guarantee he can remain as an MP. He is still under investigation from the Parliamentary Standards Committee and may yet have to stand down as an MP.

People don't need to buy it. I agree no 10 being used as as an air BnB isn't a great look.
Usa is in financial meltdown, with a president older than an Egyptian mummy bumbling on.
Europe has higher inflation than we do.

Governments across the world are reeling post covid.

NEW. The Conservative Party falls to the lowest level of support in British polling history

Labour 53%
Conservatives 14%
Lib Dems 11%

Honestly, at this point I'd love Johnson to come back. He's not saving them from this, and losing his own election may convince him to finally fuck off from the politics for good.

NightmareSlashDelightful · 21/10/2022 07:48

The more they coalesce around Johnson the more they look like bacteria on a festering wound.

You cannot resign en masse in protest at his lack of leadership abilities and then decide mere weeks later that he’s the only thing that can save the party. It’s deluded, embarrassing and utterly disconnected from the mood of the nation. Reappointing Johnson will see the Conservatives consigned to the electoral dustbin for a generation. (And ultimately, as Cameron once said to Corbyn, that’s not in the national interest.)

Besides, does he even want to come back? He’d be reinheriting a party that’s almost certain to be turfed out next election. And a set of economic circumstances that are going to see the government absolutely loathed for the next few months.

Boris is popular in the Red Wall seats that Labour need to win back to get in power. I don't think any other Tory leader could do as well there.

@Florenz currently Labour do not need the red wall. They would win at the moment simply by sweeping across the Shire counties. Take a look at seat predictor at

www.electoralcalculus.co.uk/prediction_main.html

jgw1 · 21/10/2022 08:04

ManAboutTown · 20/10/2022 22:00

He's going to come back and wind up the lefties no end.

Seriously he is probably the only chance the Tories have. People like Hunt will lose the northern wall in an instant. Mordaunt doesn't know what a woman is.

@ManAboutTown what is a woman?

Gdp would be 4% higher. £100 billion. That's quite a bit better, don't you think?

OoooohMatron · 21/10/2022 09:01

I think he will. I'm past caring to be honest, the government is a joke and I bet we are a laughing stock in other countries. Roll on general election time.

Privileges committee insider tells The Sun that No 10’s own evidence handed to the privileges committee is so damning it is likely to lead to a Commons suspension of the person leading the leadership race by some counts: Boris Johnson

Another reason to hope Johnson becomes PM - the committee evidence going public will be so much more delicious.

I know what you mean but at the same time it’s just more unwelcome instability, isn’t it?

People are gleefully tuning in to these insane, onanistic Tory psychodramas like it’s the latest episode of Selling Sunset.

But in the meantime, all the party-focused pissing about is literally hurting people up and down the country. Energy bills going bonkers, mortgage and rent bills all over the place. No one knows what’s going to be announced tomorrow, let alone next week or next month. I’ve got clients pulling out of contractual agreements left, right and centre because of the economic instability directly caused by their games of musical chairs.

They need to get serious. Fast.

And for everyone on here who genuinely thinks Johnson is the answer, you’re asking the wrong question.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 21/10/2022 09:18

If you watched Question Time last night, Theg asked the audience about Bojo coming back.

The audience were not keen. And they were made of same representational numbers as in Parliament.

caringcarer · 21/10/2022 10:58

I have just read he already has 50 backers and he is not back in the country yet.

Croque · 21/10/2022 11:03

I suspect you will not hear a thing from him until he has secured 100 plus. He has a lot of wiggle room and Boris being Boris, he can explain away anything with the wave of an arm.

Oooh oh oh! I know this one! 👋🏻

ADULT HUMAN FEMALE

j712adrian · 21/10/2022 11:33

unfortunately Johnson is of the type aspired to by the golf club liars and deferential Countdown dinosaurs which go to make up the Conservative party, so yes, he'll be back

j712adrian · 21/10/2022 11:37

let's also not forget that the massive amount lost by the UK for leaving the EU is one of Johnson's most holy and untouchable lies, so yes, he fits the bill from that point of view

he is truly the Ayatollah of blue passports
