When he left, he seemed to imply he may...?

OP posts:
BonesOfWhatYouBelieve · 20/10/2022 16:23

Apparently he's the most popular amongst Tory members, so if he stands he may well win.. 😱

Croque · 20/10/2022 16:25

Brady confirmed that party members will get to vote again. Therefore, Rishi isn't going to make it for the same reason as last time, unfortunately.

PurplRainDancer · 20/10/2022 16:26

Fingers crossed 🤞

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 20/10/2022 16:27

God the party members.🤯

What right wing nut job will they elect now?

superplumb · 20/10/2022 16:27

Hes horrific and still under investigation so morally he shouldnt be allowed to stand ( oh the irnony)

How many MPs would actually vote for him though? Let's take Rees-Mogg and Dorries as read...

Anyway, looks like Brady will announced the details of the contest at 5:30. Because in the UK, the rules for who can be PM are made up as they go along now.

Never trust atoms, they make up everything.

The Tory Party membership are stupid and greedy. They chose Johnson and then Truss. Both dire and flawed. You can be certain they will cock it up again.

Even if they choose Sunak, they will have cocked it up by indicating that what they really like is Truss and they preferred her because they thought Sunak was a backstabber and that apparently was worse than being insightful about the economy.

Or they choose Mordaunt, who is very good looking but is not known to have actually done anything of significance.

The key question is which of the candidates knows what a woman is.

Boris certainly does, do any of the others?

LexMitior · 20/10/2022 17:31

This no longer matters. The Conservative Party are fools. Truly, the trans issue is not going to decide any kind of election. It is mortgage rates.

None of these candidates, not one, can address that. And that is what all their core vote will care about.

PerfectlyPreservedQuagaarWarrior · 20/10/2022 17:31

I don't believe they're going to be stupid enough to let the membership pick another one.

Florenz · 20/10/2022 17:31

Boris stands the best chance of winning an election for the Tories at the moment. I can see them putting Boris back in and calling an immediate general election.

LexMitior · 20/10/2022 17:33

Even if Johnson returns, that is not a cure. It simply shows how degraded the Tories are. I'm sure it might be great entertainment but if you cannot pay your mortgage then I doubt anyone will care.

It's bread and circuses, not just a circus.

PerfectlyPreservedQuagaarWarrior · 20/10/2022 17:33

If they put Boris back and call an immediate GE they'll get slaughtered. They aren't going to do that, not when they still have over another 2 years they could hang around and hope for things to improve.

LexMitior · 20/10/2022 17:34

@Florenz - apparently so! More proof they are toast with a capital T

TattiePants · 20/10/2022 17:40

The Tories keep saying they need one candidate that they can coalesce around. Given how many mps and aides resigned last time round I can’t think of anyone more divisive (well perhaps Braverman). Surely even the Conservative Party can’t be that dim?

HRTQueen · 20/10/2022 17:42

The Tories are not toast

that’s wishful thinking and Labour must not take for granted they shall win the next GE

if their is a whiff of power parties will join into a coalition. Many believed that the LibDems would never with the Tories how wrong we were

LexMitior · 20/10/2022 17:42

Well each candidate will need 100 MPs in support. That will exclude nutcases like Braverman, Mogg or Baker.

Who could get 100 nominations? Sunak, Mordaunt, Johnson.

SandraOMG · 20/10/2022 17:44

I think it's too soon to stage a comeback. I thought it was only MPs voting this time? Someone irl just said that in passing though and it could be nonsense. If that's the case no I don't think they'll vote him in.

If it's the fucking party members then who fucking knows who will be next? Some right wing lunatic no doubt

They coalesced pretty comprehensively around getting him out of office only a few weeks ago. I would find it somewhat surprising if they now decide he’s their guy again. He’s not the electoral juggernaut he was in 2019. Too many parliamentary proroguings, parties, rolls of wallpaper and Pinchers have passed since then.

LexMitior · 20/10/2022 17:45

@HRTQueen - they are unless they significantly improve their decision making. Johnson has created a party of jellies, easily swayed, lacking independence of mind, cowed and beaten. That is why this mess has existed. It isn't just Truss.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 20/10/2022 17:50

It’s been opened to party members….

Expect Zog the Ultra right wing alien to be installed. Or Larry the cat. He’d probably do a better job.

Anyone really. Maybe Trump could stage a comeback via no 10.

I agree he stands the best chance of winning an election. Many people don't care about partygate or his morals despite the media and the Left going on about it for months.
But if he comes back I don't think there'd be an immediate general election. He'd want to wait and pick his moment.

HappyHappyHermit · 20/10/2022 17:55

If Boris comes back this country will continue to be screwed. We need a decent leader please.

LexMitior · 20/10/2022 17:57

I think the parliamentary party will stitch it up. Enough of them dislike Johnson to do so. If Mordaunt and Sunak both arrange their ticket, then he will be excluded.
