When he left, he seemed to imply he may...?

He'll want to be in the Lords

pinkfondu · 16/10/2022 05:20

He's a Teflon boomerang

knittingaddict · 16/10/2022 05:25

Not as PM, no.

I know some conspiracy theories are doing the rounds, but in the real world the Tories aren't that clever and BJ is a toxic brand now.

ShandaLear · 16/10/2022 06:12

Boris Johnson has shown us exactly who he is - a manipulative lying bully and a narcissist. If the Conservative party voted for him as leader again they’re effectively telling the British public that they don’t care about trust, or honour, or credibility. It’s a terrible optic, and would alienate a lot of the party who wanted him gone for the reasons above. Many people feel deeply betrayed by his behaviours and by the lies he kept telling to get himself out of mess after mess. The fact that Liz is useless should not give us rose tinted glasses for the past and I don’t think we should go back there. Sunak, Mordaunt or Hunt, while not being particularly amazing, would be better, stronger, choices. Either way, Boris had his chance and he blew it. I don’t want a prime minister who has do go by the strapline ‘he tried his best’, because he very clearly didn’t.

VillaMia · 16/10/2022 06:16

God, I hope not. I suspect he won’t though. He’s now doing what he most wants to do - making a fortune with public speaking in the US. Thank god I’m not a constituent with a problem.

There needs to be a GE now.

AllyCatTown · 16/10/2022 06:17

I don’t see what he or the tories would gain. Sure he’d do better than Liz in polls but so would my cat.

He’ll be back in some form in the media or on tv though I’m sure.

hattie43 · 16/10/2022 06:21

caringcarer · 15/10/2022 23:05

I would much prefer Boris to Loopy Liz.

Me too

equalstime · 16/10/2022 06:22

Absolutely not

Burnshersmurfs · 16/10/2022 06:42

I’m pretty sure that the enquiry into whether he lied to Parliament is still open. I highly doubt they would consider bringing him back in until that is concluded. If there’s a whitewash on that, then he may return- but I suspect that Truss’ meltdown has come too quickly and the timing won’t work for him. There’ll be someone else in place by then. He’s likely to lose his seat at the next election at this rate, anyhow. No great loss.

RudsyFarmer · 16/10/2022 06:48

I hope he does.

VikingVolva · 16/10/2022 06:50

Possibly, but not yet

He needs to make sure that all repercussions have happened (no more enquiries etc) and then start building a public profile again.

Tories will, after this fiasco, start to think of him as the one who got them their majority and that they were wrong to get rid.

He'll need a success or two along the way though, and I can't think of what that could be. And I suppose he'll go back to broadcasting

The Tories do really need to learn that hobbling then chucking out their leader is losing them support. Boris won the big majority after the purge of the rebels. They seem incapable of learning that a divided rebellious party is a weakened one.

dreamadreamy · 16/10/2022 06:51

Would be better than the mess we have now

verdantverdure · 16/10/2022 06:53

Oh probably.

The Tories are sufficiently bat shit to think this is a good idea.

I mean, he's not the worst PM any of us have ever known any more, is he?

jgw1 · 16/10/2022 06:53

HRTQueen · 16/10/2022 03:44

Yes I think it’s a high possibility

I think Jeremy Hunt has his eye on the prize

Jeremy Hunt is Prime Minister (except in name) do keep up.

nether · 16/10/2022 06:56

Jeremy Hunt was, when asked as ex DHSC, in public favour of the provision of Evusheld.

I really, really hope that's the next government U turn

1dayatatime · 16/10/2022 09:09

Jeremy Hunt has effectively ditched Truss entire agenda on which she got selected by the Tory party membership, namely tax cuts but with no cuts in spending (which of course doesn't add up but which does appeal to her economically illiterate supporters).

Hunt will now be running the show and has hinted at an agenda of tax increases and spending cuts (the complete opposite of the Truss agenda), working with the BoE and OBR not against them.

Liz Truss has effectively been replaced or at least all her policies and Hunt is the new Prime Minister in all but title. I think this was the only option available to the Tory Party given that a formal leadership change would make them a (even greater) laughing stock, destroy their credibility (if they have any left) and be too damaging so soon after the last one.

PoundShopPrincess · 16/10/2022 09:11

If Boris comes back, the Tories can say goodbye to government for the next twenty years.

DelorisVC · 16/10/2022 09:15

Well, I hope not but I wouldn't be surprised if he rocked up at Westminster upon a plague of giant locusts.

balalake · 16/10/2022 09:16

Not as Prime Minister. Already he is being large sums for speeches, which he no doubtless is grateful for given his financial commitments.

threegoodthings · 16/10/2022 09:17

No of course he won't.

MarshaBradyo · 16/10/2022 09:22

People seem to be bringing it up but no I don’t think so

Iwantmyoldnameback · 16/10/2022 09:24

PoundShopPrincess · 16/10/2022 09:11

I'd like to think that's true whatever. However I foresee some pretty big bribes on the horizon before the next election and the hard of thinking will grab them with both hands and without any thoughts of repercussions or repayment.

Anniegetyourgun · 16/10/2022 09:24

Fancy paying to hear Boris speak! I'd pay to NOT hear him speak. However, I can see him being popular on the American circuit as his audience is unlikely to understand a word of his mumblings but just want to bask in the cute British upper-class-ish accent. And maybe marvel at closer quarters at the scruffiness of what Brits thought would make a great representative on the world stage. (Embarrassing that was.)

They do still like him in Ukraine though. Maybe they'll be able to rustle up a Cabinet post for him there? Or anywhere that isn't here. Never forget that he's the reason we have the lamentable Truss where she is today. He already got rid of most of the passably human Tories before she thinned them out further.

user53852098 · 16/10/2022 09:29

I doubt it, he is probably chuckling to himself now.

Lonelycrab · 16/10/2022 09:29

If Boris comes back, the Tories can say goodbye to government for the next twenty years

Basically, this.

There are some misty eyed Tory voters that think this will work, or even be a good thing. But there are far, far too many that now understand he’s an incompetent liar and charlatan, like many of us could see right from the start.

Plus he’s too busy making money talking crap to drunk businessmen, he can now make a years PM salary in a few hours.
