Milk pouring protest

What the fuck is wrong with these idiots?

https://twitter.com/rebelsanimal/status/1581251694444564486?s=46&t=rCJ8ncsUW4dOKMKpSOjI5w

So in a cost of living crisis what they've achieved is a) the waste of perfectly good milk and food (other shops they've poured milk over cheese and other dairy products that will now have to be chucked) and b) forcing underpaid and overworked retail staff to clear up their mess.

The entitlement from these absolute fuckwits is unbelievable.

Would be interested to know if dairy-free MNers agree with these particular protests?

@Discovereads but the cows have to be artificially inseminated, and have their calves taken away, to "need" milking. Do you just think cows, unlike all other mammals such as dogs, produce milk all their adult lives?

Before you call me a middle class townie, I grew up on an arable council farm.

These protests have certainly put climate change back in the news though eh? And just when we all thought the problem had gone away!

LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet · 16/10/2022 13:25

Bet they wouldn’t go to Aldi in Batley and do this, they’d be on their arse before you can say ‘cow’

Had we?! I didn’t get that memo

nobodysdaughter · 16/10/2022 13:28

@LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet sorry when I said "we" I actually meant the mainstream media. My bad.

Oliverfunyuns · 16/10/2022 13:29

I definitely agree they're spoilt brats, for all the reasons mentioned. Wasting food, creating a mess for someone else to clean, earning animosity toward their supposed cause, and making it very obvious that they simply aren't that intelligent.

Brilliant plan, to destroy a product that will have to be replaced with even more of the same product. The cows will thank them for their valiant efforts. 🙄

I didn't even look to see what their cause was. I couldn't get past their stupid behaviour.

Fluffymule · 16/10/2022 13:29

I'd like to see these vandals being made to clear up the mess they make and pay for anything they've trashed/emptied over the floors, before the police take them away to be arrested.

These people are luxury belief protesters really. They are mostly immune from the consequences of their behaviour because the law is soft in this area, as is evidenced by repeat offenders who get a wrist slap to be doing the same a day or so later in another place.

If a bunch of teenage boys did this in Tesco in a normal working class town they would be treated much differently than these middle class eco thugs.

Mrsherdwick · 16/10/2022 13:33

Maybe we could reintroduce stocks and throw rotting vegetables at them. They should be made to clean up the mess they’ve made and pay for the products they’ve ruined.
loads of families are having to rely on food banks and they’re wasting good food! Arseholes.

MissFancyDay · 16/10/2022 13:35

I just watched some of the videos, they all behave very strangely, like they are in a trance, or drugged. Or were all activated at a set time.

I am sure they weren't, it's just odd and rather creepy.

LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet · 16/10/2022 13:36

I agree this is a class issue. Middle class eco warriors getting by in daddy’s wallet being vandals is far less offensive than the council estate lads spray painting unused underpasses

Teresa777 · 15/10/2022 17:51

They're also massive, massive cowards - would love to see them dare try it in Wester Hailes, they'd get their arse handed to them and then some

Love this. I would pay to see that @Teresa777

I don't buy a lot of meat alternatives, I do eat meat, but prefer some of the vegan/vegetarian alternatives. I won't go vegan though, I don't want to, and protests like this cement that idea further each time.

I find it astonishing that people might base their life choices on what a few protestors might do.

I don't love it, but honestly find it hypocritical / naive when people are shocked and disgusted by this level of food waste.

An estimated 55 MILLION tonnes of dairy milk is "lost" due to spillage or spoilage at farms or in transport every year. Supermarkets throw away a ridiculous amount of food. Most companies don't give a shit about how much food they waste as long as they're still turning a profit.

Companies are pumping actual shit into our rivers and seas just a few miles from where this happened; oil, logging, farming companies worldwide are destroying huge parts of the planet and in turn destroying lives in parts of the world - personally I'm saving my outrage for those, rather than a few chumps throwing around milk.

nobodysdaughter · 16/10/2022 13:42

@Tigofigo hear hear.

Teresa777 · 16/10/2022 13:42

Animal rights campaigners have always had trouble organising and getting people onside.

The ALF of years gone by were a bloody danger.

topcat2014 · 16/10/2022 13:43

Presumably they get arrested for criminal damage and theft?

Are you volunteering to go and clean the mess they made up? Or are you one of those who think supermarket workers shouldn't be considered in this?

Brigante9 · 16/10/2022 13:51

Fucking arseholes. The irony of choosing Waitrose! I guarantee they wouldn’t dare in our local Asda, I reckon most people in there would manhandle them out.

All they’re doing is creating work for the poor bloody shop workers.🤬

AssignedSlytherinAtBirth · 16/10/2022 14:03

I don't agree with these protests. They are alienating people. But I do wonder about the Suffragettes, who sent letter bombs and did other illegal stuff. They got their message across and were listened to eventually, of course.

VinoDino · 16/10/2022 14:09

Ah this old and/or argument. It is possible to be outraged at more than one thing, at the same time. Crazy I know.

midsomermurderess · 16/10/2022 14:18

They so often have a dead-eyed blankness about them, a Midwich Cuckoo quality, including those young women at the National Gallery, that I find a but sinister. Their joyless, jihadi fervour could have been applied to the Bamyan Buddhas. They aren’t doing a hearts and minds campaign, that’s for sure.
And I agree with a pp. A supermarket in Wester Hailes would have been a very different proposition to Waitrose on Morningside Road or Comely Bank.

Quveas · 16/10/2022 14:18

Kindofcrunchy · 15/10/2022 18:36

Dairy is animal abuse, whatever way you look at it 🤷‍♀️ annoying for the supermarket workers though I guess!

Not the way I look at it.

You are entitled to your opinion, but you are not entitled to tell me what I must think. Wasting food has absolutely no impact at all on anything except to piss people off and disrespect the poor bloody workers who have to clean up after you. The staff are not servants and shouldn't have to clean up after spoiled brats who have nothing better to do with their time.

It's a shame that I do eat dairy products because if I didn't I could take it up in protest at the idiots doing this.

Wereeaglesdare · 16/10/2022 14:23

Why not stand outside with milk alternatives and offer people something different. Why not educate people on ethical dairies and companies like arla who won't slaughter calves. Yes the dairy industry is horrendous but to pour milk on the floor is just soo wasteful and just so wrong. They should absolutely be prosecuted. This was never about the poor cows it was about some middle class wankers image so they could put something on their tiktok/insta and feel like a vegan warrior. Disgraceful.

How blinkered is this? God forbid you see the truth beyond the lies you need to comfort yourself with.

pollyputthekettleon33 · 16/10/2022 14:46

They are entitled brats and they are doing nothing for their cause by behaving like this. In fact they are alienating people. Would you really listen to the point of view of someone who carried on like this?
