To ask, if you don't pick up your dog's poo, why?

The streets here are littered with shit.

I have a dog and collect mine and carry spare bags to share too. I know it's not all that owners. I collect other poo too but can't do the entire neighborhood.

If you don't pick up yours, please tell me why, and what would get you to pick it up.

I challenged a woman yesterday whose dog shitted and she walked off. She still didn't collect it.

I'm wondering about creative solutions.

Fed up of mine and my kids shoes being covered by it.

I do believe some of it is cats too, so cat owners suggestions welcome too.

Plus kids don't stick to paths

worriedatthistime · 15/10/2022 10:21

@Aprilx i can assure you it is , easy to tell the difference and not all cats bury it , infact many don't
Our street and front bit if our houses is covered in the shit

thelobsterquadrille · 15/10/2022 10:21

Stick and flick is strongly recommended in highly wooded areas - no children will be playing under bramble bushes or in waist high thorn bushes and nettles, surely?

UWhatNow · 15/10/2022 10:22

The only time I didn’t mind was when I saw the dog of a registered blind man who wasn’t even aware the dog was doing it. Poor dog was trying to crouch as the man just kept walking and pulling the lead. The shit was all up the street.

Otherwise they’re cunts. And special mention to the cunts who bag it up and then just leave it. And the ‘he’s only being friendly’ arsehole dog owners who are so selfish and arrogant that they truly believe that they and their dog are more important than anyone else.

They don't pick up the shit cos they're a DIRTY BASTARD. No other answer is correct.

Yeah, fuck those people who are disabled and can't physically pick it up.

worriedatthistime · 15/10/2022 10:18

The stick and flick is also disgusting and not good for environment surely ,especially if dog has parasites surprised its recommeneded

It's been recommended by the national trust and the forestry commission, to name two off the top of my head.

And dogs don't tend to have parasites unless the owner is not worming them. Worming is simple and cheap, mine are always wormed.

thelobsterquadrille · 15/10/2022 10:23

@QuestionableMouse you can buy pooper scoopers so you don't need to bend down or get out of a wheelchair to pick it up.

Not always possible I know, but being disabled doesn't automatically mean you can't pick up after your dog.

You are supposed to flick it into thick brambles or nettles in countryside areas. You don't flick it under someone's privet hedge or in a park. You shouldn't leave it in fields where livestock graze either even if they are leaving their own dropping everywhere. It can pass on toxoplasmosis and cause sheep to abort.

How do you know he was blind?

RB68 · 15/10/2022 10:25

Yeah I don't like the stick and flick brigade either - it means they dont carry bags and if the dog shits somewhere where S&F is not possible it just gets left.

Biodegradable/compostable bags, round here you can put into green waste or gen rubbish - green waste needs to be compostable bags and is super heated to compost.

S&F if on farm land is also dodgy due to risk to pregnant animals from dog shit if the dog is not wormed properly. Just better bagged appropriately and binned appropriately. I dont think non degradeable/compostable bags should be available for nappies and dogs at all. Completely unnecessary

romdowa · 15/10/2022 10:25

The only time I haven't picked up my dogs poo is when they unexpectedly had a very watery bowel movement and there was just no way I could get that into a bag. It was in the town centre and I asked several cafes for some boiling water to try and wash it away but they all said no. So I had to walk home to boil my own kettle and drive back down and wash it down. There was little else I could do

startfresh · 15/10/2022 10:28

Me and my DH have left it a few times as we didn't have bags. We would go straight home and get a bag and run back to it to pick it up.

I've seen my in laws leave it and it really does make me think less of them. It's disgusting.

CaptainMyCaptain · 15/10/2022 10:30

No. I always carry bags and only use S and F where appropriate i.e. nettles and brambles.

S&F if on farm land is also dodgy due to risk to pregnant animals from dog shit if the dog is not wormed properly.

I said this in my last post.

Whereisthehugeteddybear · 15/10/2022 10:31

I don't have a dog but I can't understand the thinking behind the bags of poo hanging on branches/on fence posts etc. Surely the really gross part is actually picking it up...? Once its inside the bag and tied up why could it not then be put somewhere more suitable than the branch of a tree?

MsPincher · 15/10/2022 10:32

Apparently dog poo is the number one food for foxes. Anyway I see no need to climb through bramble bushes etc.

This is the one I don't get! Walk to the nearest bin, you're not touching the poo!

I don't have a dog but I guess.one reason is just forgetting bags/not having a bag when you thought you did??

Really glad I read this whilst I was having my sat morning sausage sarnie....

Lunar270 · 15/10/2022 10:34

I can understand why lazy people don't pick it up at all and I hate that. But what I find most puzzling are those who actually bag it but then hang it in a tree. Happens a lot round here.

No it doesn't. I always carry bags. I still stick and flick in the circumstances where it is recommended to do so. Because it is recommended to do so! I would never S&F unless into thick vegetation off-path in rural areas.

You won't get anyone admitting to just not bothering to pick up, or saying why they don't, because the answer is obvious - they are selfish, lazy, dog-owners with antisocial habits.

inheritanceshiteagain · 15/10/2022 10:39

Lots of lockdown dogs, so far more owners without a clue who don't bother if they can get away with it.

This issue drives me mad! I’m constantly looking at the ground when pushing DS in his pushchair because I don’t want the wheels covered in shit. He’s learning to walk now, and I’m looking forward to him walking while we’re out and gaining independence, but it’s going to be hard work trying to dodge the mountains of shit covering the pavement, especially when he inevitably trips and falls over 😩

And then there’s the phlegm and spit that covers the pavements too .. absolutely disgusting! Why do people do it? If you regularly need to get rid of phlegm, carry a tissue! It makes me grimace when I see people spitting in the street .. and I can’t actually remember ever seeing a woman do it, although I’m sure they do. It typically seems to be men.

I saw the woman who worked in my favourite sandwich shop spit a huge wad in the street. I was so disgusted I never went back to the shop again.

Sandwiches were not as good but I couldn't get the repulsive image out of my head.

worriedatthistime · 15/10/2022 10:42

@Lockheart just because you worm doesn't mean your dog will never not have them , it kills them if they get them
Many many people don't worm

jetadore · 15/10/2022 10:44

Because I’m a cunt.

BelleMarionette · 15/10/2022 10:44

Clearly stick and flick is controversial but it's not relevant anyway for urban areas. No woodland around here. Poo on the pavement has no controversy about whether it should be picked up.

If it's a poo bag issue, what about a poo bag dispenser?

It's an anonymous forum here. Anyone like to say they just leave it on the pavement and don't come back, and why?
