To ask, if you don't pick up your dog's poo, why?

The streets here are littered with shit.

I have a dog and collect mine and carry spare bags to share too. I know it's not all that owners. I collect other poo too but can't do the entire neighborhood.

If you don't pick up yours, please tell me why, and what would get you to pick it up.

I challenged a woman yesterday whose dog shitted and she walked off. She still didn't collect it.

I'm wondering about creative solutions.

Fed up of mine and my kids shoes being covered by it.

I do believe some of it is cats too, so cat owners suggestions welcome too.

Knowing that it can blind kids if they get it in their eyes, on hands etc I think these people are disgusting and need to be put on a non-dog list

Fully agree.

on a country walk I "stick and flick" into the bushes, as its more environmentally friendly than little plastic bags in landfill

This explains why my kids so often end up with dog poop on them following forest school 🤢

The Forestry Commission requests that you stick and flick.

Vikinga · 15/10/2022 20:47

It's fine where I live, even on the countryside. There is a park with a kids play area and a green near some flats and it is vile. The kids can't run on the grass because there is so much poo. I don't understand it.

Dollyparton3 · 15/10/2022 20:52

There's two repeat offenders round here, 1 seems to be the size of a Shetland pony and always in the middle of the green areas where kids play footie. I've never seen the owner but regularly see it freshly turned out which makes me suspect he walks the dog at 5 am or midnight.

The other seems to be a dog who just walks along dropping it out of his arse in 5 or 6 goes on the pavement. We caught the owner a couple of years back on cctv and a community minded man bagged it and dropped it to his door and told him he was a dirty bastard and should be ashamed of himself. His excuse was a "bad back". He's old, has two dogs and is still at it. He regularly gives me a cheery "hello"
When I walk my dog and i mutter "cunt" under my breath

Nugg · 15/10/2022 20:55

Gross!! Vile people. I ran out of bags on a walk once so I stood by the poo til a fellow walker passed and asked if they could spare a bag. Twenty fucking minutes - my puppy fell asleep while we waited 😆

I have huge sympathy for that but it doesn’t excuse the dog poo.

Someone goes with her and picks it up. It's never left.

The stick and flick is also disgusting and not good for environment surely ,especially if dog has parasites surprised its recommeneded

It is neither recommended nor appreciated by the vast majority of land owners. You can by cellulose bags to pick up shit if plastic bothers you.

BelleMarionette · 16/10/2022 08:28

I think the physically disabled is insignificant, as I bet over 99% of those who don't pick up, are able to pick up. I have seen them walk away very quickly after there dogs have left deposit on the pavement!

Probably just being twats. Rarely they may have run out of bags.

I'm thinking of making a DIY bag dispenser.

I've always thought it's the ones with extendable leads on their phones, so they don't see it or choose not to

Gertrudetheadelie · 16/10/2022 08:58

I've said this in another thread ranting about the same issue but the ones I've seen lately have been runners (some with headphones in) with the dogs off lead. One bloke had run off far into the distance and round a corner while his dog did a poo right in the middle of the path! I don't think he clocked it at all, unfortunately.

Not any more, they don't.

Just one thoughtless dog owner who never picked up after his two labs (chocolate and golden) meant the local park was covered in dog turds (2 dogs crapping 1-2 times a day is a lot of shit).

Thank goodness he no longer has any pets!

QuestionableMouse · 15/10/2022 20:10

Because she has very limited mobility and can't bend down because she falls and would then need an ambulance to get her up.

why would she need to bend down? I also have huge sympathy for that, but I'm not getting it

Then it's not people like her we are talking about then is it?!

Yes this is a good point. I have a dog, she poos lots! If I left all her poos on the pavement it would be littered. But she won't poo on pavement, only grass, and of course I pick it up. It doesn't take many selfish people to ruin it for everyone.

The only time I don’t, is if it’s knee deep in nettles or if it’s basically diahorea and I have nothing to pick up.

we walk through woods and the amount of poo left there is disgusting. I think people think because it’s not in a pavement it’s fine, but it’s a well used track in woods so it definitely should be picked up!

July70 · 27/12/2022 14:09

Until people are fined regularly and or the dog is taken away from them the parasites won't pick it up. In the summer on a beach child running around on a part of a beach that bans dogs during the summer months, the child had falled into a fresh, big dog mess and was crying. The funny thing was it was their dog.

The ones who leave it on the pavement are probably the ones who don't worm regularly as well and I always wonder what their gardens are like of they can't bring themselves to pick up
Never left mine on pavement , dog had upset stomach once and got water and washed it awAy of nearby shop, had to clean dog shit from kids shoes too many times to want to have to do it again
We have a bigger cat shit problem here though , dog owners usually pretty good

The gardens are rank. Someone in our village doesn’t pick up and the garden is disgusting - massive garden but they have 3 dogs.

LizzieW1969 · 21/03/2023 23:02

MsBombastic555 · 15/10/2022 13:33

Agreed. Cats tend to try and bury theirs not leave it in the middle of the street.

They don’t always bury their poo, but I’ve never witnessed a cat pooing in the street or on the pavement. Despite there being a lot of cats where I live. My 3 cats like to use the soil in our garden, or the litter tray very occasionally. There was one occasion where one of our cats pooed on our front lawn, much to my DH’s annoyance.

So I think the vast majority of the time when there’s poo on the pavement it will be dog shit. There’s far less of that than there used to be, thankfully, come to think of it. The school run used to be a nightmare for dog shit.
