To ask, if you don't pick up your dog's poo, why?

The streets here are littered with shit.

I have a dog and collect mine and carry spare bags to share too. I know it's not all that owners. I collect other poo too but can't do the entire neighborhood.

If you don't pick up yours, please tell me why, and what would get you to pick it up.

I challenged a woman yesterday whose dog shitted and she walked off. She still didn't collect it.

I'm wondering about creative solutions.

Fed up of mine and my kids shoes being covered by it.

I do believe some of it is cats too, so cat owners suggestions welcome too.

There are only four banned breeds in the UK, how many of these do you possibly think you're seeing?

Mainly pitbulls. Loads of them round here. Clearly anyone who gets a banned breed is not going to have the dog registered.

Adding to a previous post, I don't think it's fair to blame teenagers. Those who I have seen not pick it up have been middle aged.

It won’t be cats. They bury their poo.

I don’t know why people do this. I guess because there’s no consequence most of the time? I know there are fines but that surely hardly ever actually happens does it.

They don't! It's vvvv rare cats bury poo in my area and no it's not foxes poo as I see them doing it. However as on pavement suspect it's not cat poo in this instance. Tbh most dog owners do pick their dog poo up.

on a country walk I "stick and flick" into the bushes, as its more environmentally friendly than little plastic bags in landfill

That's pretty disgusting too.

I think it’s better that plastic bags in landfill and a million times better than the ones who bag then fling the bag in a bush. I wish the latter would flick the poo in a bush to decompose naturally.

It’s entitled laziness and selfish (very very odd exception is physically unable to)

the worse is hanging it in trees/bushes it’s absolutely disgusting. I’ve seen a poster claim that’s it fine to leave in a bush and collect on way home apparently no one is bothered 🙄 what utter bollocks. No it is not. It’s not fine for me when I have had a picnic to leave rubbish around to collect on the way home I carry it with me it’s my rubbish

Unless someone has no use of their arms (if they do they could use a pooper scooper or a stick/whatever!) then that would be a good excuse. But then that would make me wonder how they feed the dog, or get the lead on, etc etc. there isn't really a valid excuse is there?

JustFeckIt · 15/10/2022 17:42

I’ve just witnessed a woman letting her dog shit on on the floor inside a vets. She told the receptionist and then walked off leaving her to deal with it. As the receptionist went out back to get a cleaning kit, two people walked through it. Disgusting woman didn’t even stand there to alert people until the receptionist got back!

No one (especially on here) would admit to not picking up but I bet the vast majority don’t every time. I would have loved to get a dog but knew I would hate shit picking so didn’t.

We live in a reasonably affluent area and the paths are covered. Lots of young families with a dog (usually Frenchies or those curly mini mops things) who obviously want the Insta family look but don’t want to have to deal with the reality of having a dog. There is a concrete footpath alongside a forested area next to our house used as a cut through to school and you have to dodge shit all down it. Always used to make DC and I gag when doing the school run in the morning, the smell of fresh dog shit first thing. Nasty scumbags.

My mam is physically disabled and can't bend. She's at risk of falling if she does which is an ambulance job. She sits to feed her dog, uses a mobility scooter to go out and does her best but can't always pick up poo.

'My mam is physically disabled and can't bend. She's at risk of falling if she does which is an ambulance job. She sits to feed her dog, uses a mobility scooter to go out and does her best but can't always pick up poo.'

Sorry to hear that but in that case she should always have a carer with her or train the dog to poo in her garden.

Vegay · 15/10/2022 18:09

What I find worse is people who pick it up and then throw the bags into bushes. Bloody disgusting. I generally carry my dog's shit for the full walk, disposing of it my bin, just so people know I'm picking my dog's shit up.

Hankmelvin · 15/10/2022 18:18

Your mam needs to find a way of picking up dog poo. She still has a responsibility.

What if her mobility scooter wheels rolled in someone else's dog shit? Bet you wouldn't be happy then.

What if a blind person walked in it? Does your mams disability trump someone else's? 🤔

I have MS and I'd love a dog but know its not a good idea. So I haven't got one.

Then she needs to get a dog walker. Dog poo isn’t just disgusting it’s actually dangerous particularly to small children. Disability can’t be an excuse here.

Hankmelvin · 15/10/2022 18:23

@QuestionableMouse your mam needs this. Poop scoop for wheelchair users 😊

Then your mum shouldn’t have a dog if she can’t clean up after it.

Harsh, but true.
What is her garden like? Covered in shit?

QuestionableMouse · 15/10/2022 19:07

Well now you're all jumping to conclusions. We don't leave dog shit, because either me, my dad or my sister go with her and pick it up.

But please continue to pile on me.

dayswithaY · 15/10/2022 19:23

As predicted, pages of people telling us they carry hundreds of bags at all times and always clean up every trace of their dog’s deposits.

OP was asking people who don’t clean up, why they don’t. Anyone?

Then maybe you should have added that bit of info to your initial post. You made it sound like your mum just leaves dog shit everywhere.

I did get caught short once. My dog did a second poo, and I had no bags. I had a sanitary towel in my bag, and I used the wrapper from that. It was not big enough, and I had a rogue and sticky towel loose in my bag afterwards!

If my dog has the runs, I can't really pick every scrap up. Or are you going to be like a poster who commented on a similar thread about how dog owners should carry bottled bleach around with them at all times?

why can't see sit to pick up the poo then? I don't get it? If she is in the mobility scooter anyway, sitting, then why not drive over to where the poo is, use a pooper scooper? I was already envisaging people in wheelchairs/mobility scooters when I said unless they have no use of their arms!!! I'm not that ignorant.

Because she has very limited mobility and can't bend down because she falls and would then need an ambulance to get her up.

I have huge sympathy for that but it doesn’t excuse the dog poo.

Abouttimemum · 15/10/2022 20:25

Oh this drives me utterly wild. We get daily new poo outside our garden gate, and DS3 runs across the patch of grass to get to the car. Sometimes it’s even on the path. It’s absolutely and utterly disgusting.

I report it to the council every single time and to be fair they come and clear up. We’re one of those ‘persistent complainants’ i think because they quite often call for intelligence and have sent the dog warden round a few times.

We know one owner because he has 3 distinctive dogs that he walks off the lead ( which also pisses me off) so he usually isn’t even watching them and when DH politely asked if he would clean up a poo he saw his dog do, he said ‘I Don’t have to’ and when DH said you do actually it’s the law, he said ‘well no one is going to do anything about it are they’ twat.

Well we passed his details on to the dog warden and I’ve said DH can put up the CCTV at the front of the house he’s been desperate to do. It’s either that or he’ll start shitting in this man’s garden.

as you can tell, it fucking enrages me!

Abouttimemum · 15/10/2022 20:27

And to be perfectly honest if you’re not capable of picking up the dog shit then don’t have a dog. It’s not rocket science. Sorry!

surreygirl1987 · 15/10/2022 20:40

This explains why my kids so often end up with dog poop on them following forest school 🤢

surreygirl1987 · 15/10/2022 20:41

I accidentally trod in dog poo today when walking round a lovely city, just on the pavement. Absolutely disgusting.

Burgoo · 15/10/2022 20:41

Knowing that it can blind kids if they get it in their eyes, on hands etc I think these people are disgusting and need to be put on a non-dog list.
