Won’t let DH keep shoes on entry shoe rack

Yes, there is a shoe rack in my house’s entryway, but I would prefer to only keep one pair of shoes per person there. I begrudgingly let DH keep two of his pairs there. He says it’s inefficient to not fill the rack completely and wants to keep more there. But the entryway is not a closet! AIBU?

You wouldn't want to see our shoe rack then!!!

Seriously OP, I hope you take on board what people are saying here, else there might be none of your DH's shoes in the shoe rack at all before too long.

Sundaya · 14/10/2022 20:05

Wow, I was not expecting this response! Maybe IABU. But let me clarify: I’m fine with extra shoes being on the rack that are in use for that day. For example, you’ve just got home from work and temporarily leave your office shoes at the door. But I think shoes should not be STORED on the entryway rack. Only one utilitarian pair per person should be stored there for taking the bins out, etc. Otherwise it completely fills up and there’s not room for the unexpected extra pair of shoes or shoes from guests.

🙄🙄🙄

TrainspottingWelsh · 14/10/2022 20:07

If dp tried telling me similar I’d borrow shoes from everyone I knew and build a tower on the shoe rack. Then I’d finish it because I wouldn’t want a relationship with someone that petty.

Liz1tummypain · 14/10/2022 20:08

Lol. This is one I need to show my kids for a good giggle over. The funniest one before this was about neighbours buying a trampoline to snoop at them.

It's a shoe rack. For storing shoes.

If DH told me I couldn't put a second pair shoes in the shoe rack I would ignore him and tell him to stop being so bloody ridiculous.

AnneLovesGilbert · 14/10/2022 20:09

Unclench.

EVHead · 14/10/2022 20:10

How annoying when unexpected pairs of shoes come to call. 😁

I don't think this makes it sound as better as you think it makes it sound Grin iykwim

ChicCroissant · 14/10/2022 20:13

Do you really expect your family - who could use the rack every day, usefully - to ignore it in favour of the occasional visitor?

fuckinghorgel · 14/10/2022 20:15

Does DH also own the house?

You sound a bit insane.

You ban your dh from occupying an extra slot in the shoe rack to keep it free for guests??
Is this one of those oh so hilarious threads that we're supposed to guess is you writing from the perspective of Hyacinth Bucket?
It's not funny, it's just bizarre.

BagpussBagpussOldFatFurryCatpuss · 14/10/2022 20:16

You’d be horrified if you came to our house OP. Every smelly pair of shoes we own on full display as you walk in through the door…

heldinadream · 14/10/2022 20:16

You're bonkers. You may well be delightfully bonkers, but this IS bonkers.

Just let the man put his shoes on the shoe rack. Unless he's a secret Imelda Marcos of course. Then you might have an argument in your favour.

UnderCoverFieldAgent · 14/10/2022 20:17

That’s so weird. Imagine if a bloke was on here saying he had said that to his wife, he’d be lynched!! 😆

Oysterbabe · 14/10/2022 20:17

Our rack overfloweth with shoes. You need to find some more important things to worry about.

StupidSmallFruit · 14/10/2022 20:18

Wow. So it seems you’re genuine 😳

I cannot even begin to imagine the thought process that leads to coming onto Mumsnet and actually admitting to people that this is what you think…

ThisShitsBananas · 14/10/2022 20:19

My shoe rack is completely empty and all the shoes are just piled around it. At least he’s puts his away!

CarefreeMe · 14/10/2022 20:20

Why does your opinion trump his?

Tallisimo · 14/10/2022 20:20

Why should a shoe rack not be filled with shoes? Is that not what it is for? Do you not have more important things to stress over?

Delectable · 14/10/2022 20:21

YANBU. I commend that fact that you've been able to enforce this so far and your DH is trying to persuade you to allow just one more.
Perhaps let him know there must be space for two pairs and if you know'll have guests the he must revert to the original modus. ☺️

JoshLymanIsHotterThanSam · 14/10/2022 20:25

You’d hate our house OP, there’s 6 people and at any given time there can be upwards of 24 pairs of shoes in our hall way 😂

Chocoholic900 · 14/10/2022 20:25

Where else would you put your shoes if not on the shoe rack in the hallway?

JinglingHellsBells · 14/10/2022 20:26

In the UK, the word 'closet' is used for a water closet - a WC ( a loo, lavatory etc.)

I assume you are from the US or live there?

In the UK we use 'wardrobe' for where clothes are stored.

SunshineLoving · 14/10/2022 20:26

Yep, I'm with you OP.

You don't want multiple pairs of each of your shoes there as there will no room for guests' shoes.
