Won’t let DH keep shoes on entry shoe rack

Yes, there is a shoe rack in my house’s entryway, but I would prefer to only keep one pair of shoes per person there. I begrudgingly let DH keep two of his pairs there. He says it’s inefficient to not fill the rack completely and wants to keep more there. But the entryway is not a closet! AIBU?

Lovely! Well done. Having an organised home is not only welcoming but helps one think better.

I have been to homes that are so spotless they aren’t welcoming at all, you fee there are rules you have missed, shoes or not? Bag in the table or floor…. You can’t sit comfortably or feel at home - it can have the opposite effect.

Yes there is definitely a middle ground.

Psylvr · 16/10/2022 20:23

Crikey. Extreme action here

WhileMyGuitarGentlyWeeps · 16/10/2022 20:25

You 'let' your husband do something? Wow.

Crankley · 16/10/2022 20:36

Pathetic and petty. Won't'let' him? How old is he? 12?

Bogloid · 16/10/2022 21:16

This is genuinely hysterical

Do yoh also monitor how many pairs of pants he has in his drawers ?

Saltyandvinegar · 16/10/2022 21:24

Am also In charge of shoe rack and have similar rule. If he's already got 2 and everyone else has one tell him to be grateful

In charge of the shoe rack, eh? Such lofty heights; you must feel a rush of power every time some insurgent attempts to bust an extra pair in and you're there to stop it.
Wow.

@Johnnysgirl

🤣🤣🤣

@Johnnysgirl

I wonder how I could get such a promotion to a role with so much responsibility!!

If your husband ever leaves you remember this moment and ask yourself why...

Specifically the phrase "won't let" which if you can apply to a shoe rack situation I'm sure you're applying throughout other areas of married life.

RachaelN · 17/10/2022 08:30

Absolutely. It seems very controlling and I feel sorry for the poor bloke.

Bios of the shoe rack, way to go!

I'm guessing she's a boss of a lot more than the shoe rack!

Not for much longer If the DH has any sense!

Sorry I disagree, a shoe rack in the entrance hall is for the shoes of visiting guests, members the family should put Thier shoes in their wardrobe. To me it is slovenly and lazy to kick ones shoes off in the hallway. but then we all live in our homes the way that suits us. Me I can't stand anything out of place. I even line up the cups and food tins so they are all perfectly straight. and facing the same way. Eyes Front.

You would hate our house which is set up for the convenience of the family and not to look like a show home. hoes on shoe rack, coats on visible coat hooks, anything that is used regularly in easy reach not hidden in a cupboard.

Oh god, imagine having to live with you!

MyPetCrow · 17/10/2022 10:52

We have a shoe rack, drawers built in under the stairs and baskets for shoes near the back door and a shoe rack in the garage for sports and muddy shoes.
DH still leaves his shoes wherever is convenient, there was 8 pairs dotted around the house this weekend, he had an epiphany at around 2:00pm on Sunday and put them all away, loudly announcing "Did you realise I had 8 pairs of shoes out"
🙄

Kazz36 · 17/10/2022 11:30

Ok, I get where yr coming from even if it does sound a bit nuts. You don't want the shoe rack to look cluttered and unsightly. I had this problem, so the best bet was to get a nice unit with doors, place in hall way close to front door, put all family shoes in it. Close the doors and shoes are out of sight but still easy to get at. Looks neat also.

NerrSnerr · 14/10/2022 19:42

Have you written him an official rule book? Do you have coat hooks? How many coats is he allowed on there?

The OP could get one of those glass fronted very thin notice boards, like they have in flats, and the house rules could be displayed there!😂

Petlover9 · 17/10/2022 12:46

Move to a house with a Boot Room, they used to be next to the Gun Room......just saying

I just take them off when I arrive home. And when I'm going out I choose my outfit and it's laid out.

Where the house staff actually keep the shoes is of no concern or interest to me. I'm not a micro manager.

notprettybeautiful · 17/10/2022 13:45

This is what we used to call a first world problem, surely?

I mean, we have the climate crisis, the Ukraine war and threat of being nuked, the inflation and energy crisis...and then the too many shoes left on shoerack, which is such a glaring non-issue that I'd have to say yes, YABU.

0461den · 17/10/2022 17:05

Hi Kazz,
Most impressive.
Grey is my favourite colour. So many pairs of shoes? gosh that's more than we have in total, mind, my dear late wife had 138 pairs of shoes when we came home from Germany, her nick name was "Imelda Marcos" she kept them in a separate wardrobe. Me, I had 2 x pairs of formal shoes, 1 x pair of trainers, army combat boots and mess brown shoes. But back to the problem. Perhaps the answer is pick up all the shoes as they are discarded and not been put away and put them away in their correct place, this at least frees you from stressing about discarded shoes and keeps you sane. Keep safe

0461den · 17/10/2022 17:07

Like it, you can't beat rules and regulations. Eyes Front

0461den · 17/10/2022 17:16

yes, your right, but where do I put my gun??😁
