Won’t let DH keep shoes on entry shoe rack

Sundaya · 14/10/2022 19:18

Yes, there is a shoe rack in my house’s entryway, but I would prefer to only keep one pair of shoes per person there. I begrudgingly let DH keep two of his pairs there. He says it’s inefficient to not fill the rack completely and wants to keep more there. But the entryway is not a closet! AIBU?

When he decides to leave them lying about on the doormat or in the corridor then I hope you'll remember that he wanted to use the shoe rack but you wouldn't "allow" him to.

This. My dh and ds never put their shoes on the shoe rack. Also you need a pair of shoes for every event except dressy occasions at the door.

Jenasaurus · 14/10/2022 21:11

Please can you share a photo of the shoe rack, my DD has asked me to get one as has no more room in her room for all her shoes, I just cleared out a cupboard and found another 8 pairs of her heals! so I think this is going to have to be a pretty big shoe rack, so would love to see yours as I dont want my landing looking like a shoe shop(live in a 2 storey masionette and only room for one on the second landing)

kateandme · 14/10/2022 21:12

Don’t have a shoe rack.it will make the more than one look worse if tidy is what you seek.
mif there are a couple of pairs in full use then it’s practical to have them by the door(if doorway is big enough)

Rockingcloggs · 14/10/2022 21:15

This and you are absolutely, comedically crackers!

You need one of those that's has a pull down door. Looks like a very shallow cupboard. They used to sell them in IKEA.

BerryShots · 14/10/2022 21:17

Oh goodness, I hope we never become friends, or if we do you'll manage to overlook the shoe storage tub/box in the little hall. There's one by the back door, too. There are shoes on them that have not been worn for over a year I should think.

whatthefunkisgoingon · 14/10/2022 21:17

Loving the comments on this thread 😂

OP, you sound absolutely bat shit crazy

5128gap · 14/10/2022 21:17

@Jenasaurus it's called Hemnes. Very tidy looking for a small hall.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 14/10/2022 21:18

What is the point of keeping shoes upstairs if he's not allowed to wear them in the house? That means he has to walk in, take his shoes off, then carry them up there, followed by choosing what pair to wear, realising there the rack downstairs has reached HSMFQ (Her Stipulated Maximum Footwear Quantity), carry them downstairs, put them down, remove the excess footwear, place the intended footwear on the rack, carry the extraneous brogues back upstairs, place them in the AFSF (Approved Footwear Storage Facility), walk back downstairs, pick the intended footwear back up off the rack, put the intended footwear on, put the coat on ensuring that he has not exceeded the MCV (Maximum Coat Value), exit, doublelock the door and wonder what went wrong in his life go to the office.

You need to think of a time and motion study with efficiencies built in. Shoes come off when you enter the house and go on when you leave, as do coats. They therefore need to be stored at the point of entry/exit. Otherwise, you risk him walking upstairs whilst wearing shoes to fetch a IWAEC (Item of Weather Appropriate External Clothing), or potentially leaving a coat on an ISFoMO (Internal Seating Facility of Multiple Occupation sofa), which I'm fairly certain would not present an acceptable state of affairs for you to contemplate.

Your way is inefficient, counterintuitive and, frankly, a bit batshit.

saraclara · 14/10/2022 21:22

So the only other place he has for his shoes is ON THE SECOND FLOOR of your house?

That's no way in a million years is countenance having to walk up two floors to put my shoes away when there's space on the shoe rack.

You're either a troll or batshit, or terrifyingly controlling. Your poor bloke.

ilovesooty · 14/10/2022 19:34

I can't get over you "letting" your husband keep two pairs of shoes there.

If I were him I'd LTB!

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 14/10/2022 21:23

I have the Hemnes shoe cupboard.

Its akways stuffed to bursting. All 3 shelves.

newrubylane · 14/10/2022 21:25

This kind of thing is the upshot of all those "Pinsta" houses - you know, the ones where they style a coat peg with a straw boater, a vintage tennis racket, a cute sign and one very tasteful jacket. It all looks lovely, but it isn't how those people actually live, is it?!

JudgeJ · 14/10/2022 21:26

MysweetAudrina · 14/10/2022 19:53

Be thankful he puts them on the shoe rack. I have an empty shoe rack and about 15 pairs of shoes just fucked on the floor.

Same here and I live alone!

missmamiecuddleduck · 14/10/2022 21:28

I don't wear shoes in the house either but I've seen houses where multiple pairs of shoes are piled by the door both in racks and on the floor plus other shoes piles right outside the front door. It looks a dirty mess.

Threelittlelambs · 14/10/2022 21:29

I have a trunk - 5 peoples shoes piled in … lucky if I find a matching pair

please get a life.

figtrees · 14/10/2022 21:29

Yanbu. I actually think everybody has little querks and ways that they like things done. If it is not a big deal for me but is a big deal for my partner, then why would I continue to do something they didnt like? It's a tiny compromise. They arent asking the world. They want the hallway tidy when they walk in the door. It doesn't mean you're being controlled for christ sakes, a little give and bloody take.

YukoandHiro · 14/10/2022 21:30

As long as they're not in the middle of the stairs causing a trip hazard, does it really matter?

80sMum · 14/10/2022 21:30

Oh, lucky you, OP! I just wish that my DH would use our shoe rack! Instead, he steps out of his shoes on the doormat and leaves them where he stepped out of them, by the front door, so that I inevitably trip over them when I come in! It's maddening. We have a shoe rack, ffs!

YABU, by the way!

5128gap · 14/10/2022 21:30

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 14/10/2022 21:23

I have the Hemnes shoe cupboard.

Its akways stuffed to bursting. All 3 shelves.

As do I, together with an open rack also full.
This thread had me pondering whether its time to jnvest in a tertiary rack. A Brusali perhaps, to cope with the overflow?

norwichmummy123 · 14/10/2022 21:33

Let it go

abblie · 14/10/2022 21:34

Hello Daily Mail 👋

Other news outlets are available, although MNers seem to prefer the DM!

BusyBeaMe · 14/10/2022 21:35

YANBU- same rule in our house but it’s a hard one to enforce! I try though!!!

we have a ‘hidden’ built in shoe rack type thing in the utility for everyday shoes and a little rack under a bench in hall. Hate it when this overflows!
