Newspaper reports as scathing as ever, and The Times suggesting Tories are lining up Sunak and Mordaunt as a duo.

can’t stand the woman but surely she’ll hold on for a bit longer - everyone was saying Boris would go much earlier than he did. And why on earth did they vote her into power in the first place 🙄

He days are clearly numbered, but it has to be a general election to decide the next PM at this point.

Do you really reckon she's going to carry on until the next GE? I can't see her managing that.

mogsrus · 14/10/2022 11:33

She can go now for all I care. Get a job as a delivery driver then she can deliver, deliver & deliver, and be spectacular at U turns

😂😂😂 I think someone needs to tell a huge chunk of Tory MPs they are “upset lefties”.

I love how the right use leftie as an insult. It doesn’t have the impact you think it has.

I'm told that Kwasi Kwarteng is being sacked as Chancellor as Liz Truss prepares to reverse the mini-Budget

Not clear who will be replacing him

2/10 for effort

And how long did Theresa May last? She was one of the shortest serving British PMs in modern history. Everyone talks about Thatcher but she was an anomaly.

Thatcher herself was a terrible misogynist

Oooof

Can she find someone else? It's not like the government will last so it would be a doomed post.

Very much so, did absolutely nothing for women. Despite her position was very keen on traditional gender roles.

SleeplessInEngland · 14/10/2022 11:43

Sacking others instead of resigning, Truss is the continuity johnson candidate in at least one regard.

citroenpresse · 14/10/2022 11:44

Looks like Kwateng is getting the chop. So guesses for the 5th CX to be appointed since 2019...Zahawi (again)?

greenhousegal · 14/10/2022 11:45

Could she be caretaker Chancellor? lol. Take on all roles and deliver them herself!

Zahawi? She may as well stab herself in the back and save him the effort.

I can't see how they can continue limping along like this, all the internal wrangling is severely hindering any actual governing.

😂 Queen Liz III

citroenpresse · 14/10/2022 11:48

Javid more likely?

MissHavishamsMouldyOldCake · 14/10/2022 11:48

Whenever a politician says 'I am 100% confident I will not be leaving' the grim reaper of political careers appears then rises up behind them and says 'we'll see about that!'.

So long. Kwarteng! It's been a shit show. But you'll always have your fun memories of the Queen's funeral.

SleeplessInEngland · 14/10/2022 11:49

You're giving them too much credit. There's 'internal wrangling' becuase they're unpopular, and they're unpopular because their policies are regarded as shit. This isn't a party dis-unity issue.

That’s inevitably what happens soon after a politician issues a statement saying ‘I’m not going anywhere’.

Typical anti-growth remoaner choosing a Spanish artist to malign glorious Brexit.

VoluptuaGoodshag · 14/10/2022 12:00

This shitshow has got to stop. The Tories just can't sustain voting someone in and then getting rid of them within a month. If they even attempt that, the country should demand a general election. She is crap and everyone knew she'd be crap but she still got voted in, just as Johnson did (also crap). There has to be some decent backbenchers who have a modicum of common sense but if they keep wheeling out this sort of calibre then they are done (and I sincerely hope that is the case). 12 years and the country is on it's knees.

Yesthatismychildsigh · 14/10/2022 12:00

She may have been voted in to make Sunak a more palatable choice after all the stuff came out about his family’s tax affairs and the seemingly habitual dishonesty.

vera99 · 14/10/2022 12:01

As a Labour voter, my only worry is that Truss is setting the bar so low, that whoever inevitably follows - Sunak, Mordaunt, whoever - only needs to avoid setting fire to the scenery to look relatively competent.

Liz Truss set to sack chancellor with U-turn expected on corporation tax
Tory grandees said to be in talks to replace Truss with ‘unity candidate’
Nadine Dorries accuses Sunak supporters of plot to overturn democracy
Liz Truss is poised to sack her chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng and announce plans to raise corporation tax as she abandons key parts of her mini-budget in a bid to reassure the markets.
The chancellor is due to meet the prime minister shortly, with discussions under way in No 10 and No 11 before a public statement by the prime minister.
The government has been left with little choice but to abandon its plans after the markets priced in a reversal of its position, with sterling responding positively to a series of leaks.
Kwarteng flew back early from Washington overnight. The government is expected to announce plans to increase corporation tax later this afternoon, with the prime minister potentially making a public statement.
One government source said that corporation tax was likely to rise but said it could still be less than the 25 per cent that was planned by the previous government. Other measures in the mini-budget could soon be reversed.
The government is acting to restore market confidence after Kwarteng used his mini-budget to announce £45 billion worth of unfunded tax cuts.

Greenight · 14/10/2022 12:03

Hey, remember when the Conservatives ran that 2017 election campaign saying that Britain needed a “Strong & stable government”?

Who knew they had such an epic sense of humour.

January 2019: vote of no confidence in Theresa May

’20-22: crap years, obvs

June 22: vote of no confidence in Boris Johnson

Oct 22: Liz Truss crashes the UK economy

It’s like reading a really unrealistic novel.

Except it’s real.
