Newspaper reports as scathing as ever, and The Times suggesting Tories are lining up Sunak and Mordaunt as a duo.

can’t stand the woman but surely she’ll hold on for a bit longer - everyone was saying Boris would go much earlier than he did. And why on earth did they vote her into power in the first place 🙄

According to a comment I've just seen in the Times the Daily Star do actually have a Liz vs Lettuce tracker to see which lasts longer.

Feels surreal to have more confidence in the lettuce to win.

Typical anti-growth remoaner choosing a Spanish artist to malign glorious Brexit.

😂Truss may lead a unicorn into the commons today as gasps from the benches turn into cheers and her Chuckie visage breaks into a wide grin and with a jabbing finger exclaims "SEE". Would have seemed impossible a couple of years ago but now?

I hope Ed Miliband has the infamous 'chaos with Ed Miliband' Cameron tweet mounted and framed on his office wall.

As a Labour voter, my only worry is that Truss is setting the bar so low, that whoever inevitably follows - Sunak, Mordaunt, whoever - only needs to avoid setting fire to the scenery to look relatively competent.
Politics latest: Liz Truss set to sack Kwasi Kwarteng

Liz Truss set to sack chancellor with U-turn expected on corporation tax
Tory grandees said to be in talks to replace Truss with ‘unity candidate’
Nadine Dorries accuses Sunak supporters of plot to overturn democracy
Liz Truss is poised to sack her chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng and announce plans to raise corporation tax as she abandons key parts of her mini-budget in a bid to reassure the markets.
The chancellor is due to meet the prime minister shortly, with discussions under way in No 10 and No 11 before a public statement by the prime minister.
The government has been left with little choice but to abandon its plans after the markets priced in a reversal of its position, with sterling responding positively to a series of leaks.
Kwarteng flew back early from Washington overnight. The government is expected to announce plans to increase corporation tax later this afternoon, with the prime minister potentially making a public statement.
One government source said that corporation tax was likely to rise but said it could still be less than the 25 per cent that was planned by the previous government. Other measures in the mini-budget could soon be reversed.
The government is acting to restore market confidence after Kwarteng used his mini-budget to announce £45 billion worth of unfunded tax cuts.

I read this initially as Nadine Dorres was the 'unity candidate' to replace Kwarteng 😱

But did you SEE the way he ate that bacon sandwich. It was monstrous 😁

MINDBLEACH TRIGGER WARNING
Truss says no hard feeling 'Kwas' and maybe one last one for the road....

sweetgingercat · 14/10/2022 12:08

We need an election. Those Tories need to go away for a decade. Purge themselves of the idiots that inflicted brexit on us and find a way to repair the damage.

My preference is that they dissipate into a smaller number of unelectable cliques.

girlmom21 · 14/10/2022 12:09

Anyone reckon she'd make Matt Hancock chancellor?

MissHavishamsMouldyOldCake · 14/10/2022 12:10

Something making me lol is knowing that Harry Cole, political editor/Tory stenographer with The Sun, has his book 'Out of the Blue: The inside story of Liz Truss and her astonishing rise to power' coming out in Dec. She may well have vamoosed by then.

Hee hee.

Yes, had a chuckle at that. Couldn't have happened to a nicer client journalist.

Vera99 Ha, pro-enlightenment Goya would definitely be a member of anti-growth coalition. ERG munching May is more like it.

FlaccidCornFlake · 14/10/2022 12:14

The "Call an immediate general election to end the chaos of the current government" petition is near reaching 600,000 signatures and is going to be debated in 3 days (17th October). I'm sitting watching the counter go up. right now.

Can't wait to have a large glass of wine and watch as they do fuck all about it, like most petitions

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 14/10/2022 12:14

@Greenight

'It’s like reading a really unrealistic novel.'

I think the series of events (so far) would be deemed too farcical to feature in an episode of 'Yes, Prime Minister', as people would say that could never happen!!

She won the vote because Rishi is untrustworthy.

This is funny. As if BoJo, Truss, Nigel have been trustworthy. Even Cameron cared more about being PM than its future. Rishi has its flaws but not as bad as Truss. Even if he left the UK in the future, he would have done a better job than the 'trustworthy' Truss.

The reason we want a country leader to show loyalty is becaue we want them to have country's interest at heart and take decisions accordingly.

None of these politicians listed above have shown that they care about the country, they cared about making their friends' rich at the time of pandameic, sunking the pound to benefit their city friends at the time of cost of living crisis in the country, what are we worried Sunak would have done by retaining his Green Card?

Boris was untrustworthy too. He kept his US passport for tax reasons, IRS had to chase him up for this.

I'm one of those who were excluded from covid support. On a zero hours contract which allowed me to try to start a small business.
My business had to close and the contract hours were stopped.

I received no support.

Dh spent some time on furlough with 80% salary so during that year we were 50% of our usual income. We are still catching up on fuel bills, council tax etc as I prioritised food and mortgage to keep us all alive and housed. We were looking to be back to where we were before covid by the end of this year, but fuel has doubled and mortgage rates have shot up- no chance of getting a fixed rate due to being behind on bills.

I am fucking raging at the shit situation we have been put in again. We had light at the end of the tunnel which seems to have disappeared so yeah, thanks tories.

High5InALowRide · 14/10/2022 12:25

He's gone according to BBC

Kwasi Kwarteng has been sacked - breaking news

girlmom21 · 14/10/2022 12:27

He came back from America early didn't he. She's going to u-turn on the mini budget now.

Goldengun · 14/10/2022 12:29

Why are people asking ' why did they vote her through to the top 2' .

Do you not get it yet? the Tory party are a corrupt cabal using this countries economy as a personal cash machine.

Truss was a patsy, someone who would make these outrageous decisions so the rich hedgefund managers that keep Truss , Kwarteng and her mates on the pay roll can get even richer by betting against sterling .

They do not care about the population of the UK, and it is infuriating to see people still supporting a bunch of corrupt criminals.

I really wish I was being overdramatic here, but I'm really not.

Has he definitely gone ?
I've only heard about a u turn so far

SleeplessInEngland · 14/10/2022 12:30

Pre-Brexit we had 3 Chancellors in 19 years. Post-Brexit 6 in 6 (and counting).

Doesn't paint a good picture of brexit.

the80sweregreat · 14/10/2022 12:31

I wish Liz Truss was following him
If he gets into revenge mode he might cause a bit of a stir though !
Politicians are ruthless
