Newspaper reports as scathing as ever, and The Times suggesting Tories are lining up Sunak and Mordaunt as a duo.

can’t stand the woman but surely she’ll hold on for a bit longer - everyone was saying Boris would go much earlier than he did. And why on earth did they vote her into power in the first place 🙄

Yup looking like that - Sunak's non-dom stuff and extreme wealth green card etc means the acclamation goes to Penny. Looks like it has already happened.

citroenpresse · 17/10/2022 15:59

Personally think Labour should have walked. These are questions for Truss not a make-me-me-meeee-Prime Minister audition. The approving look of Graham Brady. GE before Christmas.

Penny's probably getting her practice in for the next leadership battle

I don't see Mordaunt getting the PM job after her brother's recent conviction.

PerfectlyPreservedQuagaarWarrior · 17/10/2022 16:02

At this point it actually might be Malcolm Tucker's left bollock.

For which she holds no responsibility. Is your career advancement based on your siblings’ behaviour.

CredibilityProblem · 17/10/2022 16:07

vera99 · 17/10/2022 15:55

So the deputy PM isn't even doing her job except dealing dodgy drugs.

Good spot. The 22 Committee have clearly got Truss operated entirely as a sock puppet with her sidekicks cut out of the loop. I would have expected the designated adults to be Sunak and Gove rather than Hunt and Mordaunt but apart from that it's predictable. But they can't really operate like that for another 18 months in an Andropov/Chernenko scenario.

Yeah, but this isn't a job which is dished out by HR and bound by typical recruiting rules. Having a pm with a nonce for a brother has bad optics.

PerfectlyPreservedQuagaarWarrior · 17/10/2022 16:21

It's a fair point, one doesn't have to think it's fair for a person to be tarred by their relative's behaviour to understand that it's a consideration.

Worse optics than crashing the economy? I’d say it was insignificant in the general Tory ordure.

pointythings · 17/10/2022 16:27

Permit me to introduce your next Prime Minister. He is the stupidest of my 4 cats but can definitely be trusted to do a better job than anyone proposed by the Tory party.

Patronising people does not help them agree with you. Self-determination is better than the technocratic government that the EU represents. At least I can vote out the Tories I cannot vote out the Brussels bureaucrats. And not all Tories agree with the ERG either.

vera99 · 17/10/2022 16:31

Truss turns up smiling and laughing to the chamber. Says it all. Total contempt for parliament and the British people. This is ridiculous.

pointythings · 17/10/2022 16:34

@Grammarnut Brussels Bureaucrats = civil servants working for the EU parliament. EU parliament = elected. By PR, which is arguably more democratic than FPTP.

UK Bureaucrats = civil servants working for the UK parliament.

Honestly. 🙄

Blossomtoes · 17/10/2022 16:35

You could if they had the decency to call an election.

Benjispruce4 · 17/10/2022 16:35

What a joke!

Blossomtoes · 17/10/2022 16:35

New thread anyone?

Katyaadlerscoat · 17/10/2022 16:36

I'm watching the HofC and thinking it must be ME who's on glue.

vera99 · 17/10/2022 16:36

Ok I'll do it. Wait a mo ...

pointythings · 17/10/2022 16:37

@Blossomtoes yes please! May I suggest 'It's The Final Countdown - We Hope' as a thread title?
