Will Liz Truss really last only 17 more days?

Newspaper reports as scathing as ever, and The Times suggesting Tories are lining up Sunak and Mordaunt as a duo.

can’t stand the woman but surely she’ll hold on for a bit longer - everyone was saying Boris would go much earlier than he did. And why on earth did they vote her into power in the first place 🙄

Did I hear correctly this morning about the 100 letters of no confidence ?

mrshoho · 16/10/2022 13:50

Monday could be one hell of a day. How markets react and what Liz does next.

Seems like such a long time since we had a government that acted in a measured and prudent way.

the80sweregreat · 16/10/2022 14:24

What Lizzie dripping does next !
That's if she is allowed out to play. That may have to lock her up in the tower and just wheel out Hunt again to tell us it's all ' everyone else's fault ! '
Hey , look over there ...

jgw1 · 16/10/2022 15:21

the80sweregreat · 16/10/2022 09:29

It does feel hopeless
45 billion to save
Maybe going after the fraudsters of furlough might be a start !

How much did we spend on Dido Harding?

the80sweregreat · 16/10/2022 15:27

Dido Harding received billions I believe!
Test and trace did work , but other counties did something else that worked just as well.

larkstar · 16/10/2022 15:33

17 days - I doubt it.

The markets reaction to the the mini-reversal, the appointment of JH and what he has been saying so far, as well as the growing levels of discontent on the backbenchers is going to force her out I think.

PerfectlyPreservedQuagaarWarrior · 16/10/2022 15:35

Test and trace didn't work particularly well, though I don't know how much that's due to the scheme itself. There wasn't the trust, and by the time it had been brought in, the population had already been through lockdown and sacrificed a lot. So it was inevitable that people would do things like give fake names and refuse to cooperate.

By the time I had any experience with them they were pretty much winding down and it was very obvious.

the80sweregreat · 16/10/2022 15:40

They did give a lot of money away over the lockdowns.
I knew of a few people who were able to claim for things and it was made relatively simple. Bounce back loans etc.
lbc did a phone in about it and a few businesses people said how surprised they were at how easy it was for them to claim some money. Obviously a lot was legitimate, but much of it wasn't I suppose. A lot of this has been written off.

Endlesssummer2022 · 16/10/2022 15:45

I reckon she’s on the phone begging Zelenskky to let her come over to Kyiv for some PR. Worked for Boris for a while.

the80sweregreat · 16/10/2022 15:53

If he had any sense , Zelenskky would advise her not to go over there.

Ah come on now. The Ukrainians are suffering terribly, we cannot allow Liz to Trussterfuck them as well as us.

the80sweregreat · 16/10/2022 16:05

The Ukrainians would send her back !

Endlesssummer2022 · 16/10/2022 16:08

She’s going through her Thatcher Dressing up box trying to pick the most appropriate outfit. I think she’ll go for Thatchers Argentine War look.

A Headscarf in blue and yellow would be on the list.

I agree. She’ll have to make it super obvious which side she’s on. Do you think she’ll also say ‘Putin’s appalling war in Ukraine’? She uses that sentence a lot. Second only to ‘Deliver’.

the80sweregreat · 16/10/2022 16:22

I. Will . Deliver. Myself. To, the. Ukrainian. People
..( they will be delivering her back )

at pace gets an honourable mention.

Never quite sure what that means ...... Glacial Pace? or Snails Pace?

the80sweregreat · 16/10/2022 16:51

She will want to grow the Ukrainian economy for them. How she'll do this is a mystery, but she'll be very clear that this is how people can aspire to talk nonsense and become a leader.
She also went to a terrible school, so she can understand their frustration that they need growth to achieve as much as she has despite the very bad area she grew up in
After baffling Zelenskky with her incredible knowledge she will shuffle off leaving them to decide if she is mad or just simply deluded

greenhousegal · 16/10/2022 17:20

The trussed up puppet will be fine if the puppet master calms the markets tomorrow. That's the key.

A week ago that might have been true. It’s gone beyond that now, Tory MPs are furious that she’s trashed the brand and they want revenge.

HRTQueen · 16/10/2022 17:34

She is on her way out

the party knows with her they shall get absolutely trashed at the next election. With another leader not so much

they still have their sights on winning the next GE

greenhousegal · 16/10/2022 17:37

I wonder how she spent her weekend.

MarshaBradyo · 16/10/2022 17:37

PMQs are an issue too. It’s too hard to send someone that exposed into the bear pit

Tories still think they can win the next general election?
Goodness I didn't think they were that deluded.

Too late, Gilt yields rose after Hunt appointed (would have perhaps expected the opposite), the markets will want far more than just a few billion off an almost 2 Trillion borrowing requirement.

I think J.Hunt will have to revisit the energy price cap in order to save sufficient amounts and have a meaningful wind fall tax.

Self inflicted disaster on us all now.

Or as one trader said "Countries were keeping their heads down, as they didn't want to be the next Greece, then along comes Kwarteng"
