Newspaper reports as scathing as ever, and The Times suggesting Tories are lining up Sunak and Mordaunt as a duo.

can’t stand the woman but surely she’ll hold on for a bit longer - everyone was saying Boris would go much earlier than he did. And why on earth did they vote her into power in the first place 🙄

I thought they had to wait 12 months before another leadership contest?

They do - them’s the rules but the rules can be changed…

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 14/10/2022 09:00

Sunak and Mordaunt? Jesus, it's just a different method of torture.

user1471505356 · 14/10/2022 09:00

I think according to her party rules she may be safe for a year.

Not if the cabinet implodes...

PiffleWiffleWoozle · 14/10/2022 09:01

Tory members voted for Truss at least in huge part because they wanted tax cuts and share her minority view of economics and politics.

The magic money tree seems to exist on far left and far right of politics. Unfortunately it seems the markets don’t believe in it.

Novum · 14/10/2022 09:01

DH and I were speculating/having a nightmare that getting rid of Truss would be so embarrassing that they might decide that bringing Boris back is the only answer. Though they would have to explain why 50 ministers who previously refused to work with him suddenly felt able to, and he would presumably also be somewhat hard up for a cabinet if he decided that he couldn't have the people who orchestrated his downfall previously..

Even before the crazy shitshow of a mini budget, I had predicted she wouldn't last until Christmas.

It is totally unfathomable why the Tory party had voted her in instead of Sunak, who at least has some semblance of common sense about him.

She was a liability from the get go. Slagging off Macron and Sturgeon during her campaign. Pathetic really.

And now the country's economic status in complete turmoil, just when no one needed it. Cheers Liz!

this

i looked at the Queen with her and thought, your majesty will be meeting another one before Christmas.

does the party have an emergency mechanism to oust someone and put a caretaker in?

I realise that they were shocked at market reaction and actually the CBI initially welcomed the budget. But you don’t announce a massive package of cuts without saying how you fund them.

that clip of Sunak saying her funding model was mad keeps going on in my head.

I still find that odd, being removed five minutes after surviving a no confidence vote. My local MP has a really weird reason for wanting to walk away from Johnson’s govt as well.

Thatsasmashingblouseyouvegoton · 14/10/2022 09:06

Ds1 and I have a theory...

Truss was engineered to be in the final 2 with Sunak because they knew
A) she's win (see racist party members)
And
B) she'd be SO awful that they could get Boeis back in time for the next GE (which I'm still predicting in the next 6 months...)

ChilliBandit · 14/10/2022 09:06

Thatsasmashingblouseyouvegoton · 14/10/2022 08:47

If MPs voted it would have been Sunak.

However, it was the majority white, mc/uc, male over 75 party members who voted and he's the wrong colour for them.

Simple, really.

100% agree with this. I said at the beginning of the campaign that he was the “wrong colour” for the hardcore of the Tory party to vote him in.

I have no idea why any member of the Tory party is surprised at the current turn of events, Liz Truss is doing exactly what she said she would in her leadership bid? Sunak warned about it and was shouted down. Bring on a GE I say.

Alltheprettyseahorses · 14/10/2022 08:56

Sunak didn't lose because of his skin colour, he lost because he's blamed for Johnson going.

Like PP said, the MPs should choose their leader because members of all parties tend towards the wacky, to be polite.

I’m not sure about skin colour either as Badenoch polled well will party members

Agree the process needs to be looked at

It’d be interesting to see how many times the party votes get it wrong - both sides

L1ttledrummergirl · 14/10/2022 09:07

Sunak received a fixed penalty notice whilst serving in government, showed a lack of loyalty to the country by holding a green card for America, and showed a lack of judgement by backing Johnson until the very last minute.

It's come to something when he is being seen as the Knight in shining armour.

Is he really the best of the tories?

....with younger party members maybe (make up about 10% of the membership?)

dottiedodah · 14/10/2022 09:09

My friend has a theory that she is so bad that bj will be relieved with open arms! He said he would be back, which makes me think it must be some sort of plan

Thatsasmashingblouseyouvegoton · 14/10/2022 09:10

You also have to remember the level of Intellect you're dealing with re: most party members.

What did that woman say on TV?

"I trust her. Truss. It's in her name" 😳😬😵‍💫

They need a majority vote of Tory MPs to get rid of her. They also just need a majority vote of Tory MPs to change any of the rules around getting of her eg waiting a year. After Johnson survived his vote of no confidence he was supposedly safe for 6 months but if he hadn't resigned, they'd have changed the 6 month rule. Ditto for May after she survived her VONC.
Once a majority of MPs are willing to vote the leader out, the rules mean very little because those same MPs can change them.

Dear oh dear 😉

Imagine if King Charles is onto his second PM before Xmas!

Perhaps his mum turned up her toes because she foresaw the mess that was to come and decided that, after all Boris's messes, she really couldn't be bothered to deal with it any more.

Ablababla · 14/10/2022 09:21

If you look at the leadership contest Liz was spouting her nonsense and Sunak was saying things like. ‘That’s a fairytale’ ‘I can’t promise that’. Yet for some reason the Tory party membership collectively decided that reality could take a hike and voted for Truss. I just can’t wrap my head around it.

Novum · 14/10/2022 09:22

Endlesssummer2022 · 14/10/2022 07:40

Does every Tory get a turn? Will it be Fabricant and Francois after Sunak?

This country is a fucking shit show.

Perhaps that's the idea. They all do a few days, resign, bugger off and take loads of holidays whilst the next one gets voted in, then retire on a Prime Minister's pension.

Sadly, yes, I think he is. Best of a very bad lot. We need a GE.

Its exactly as a pp stated...

Tory MPs were going around their home counties constituencies promising that levelling up money would go to them, not the deprived northern towns promised, tax cuts for the already super wealthy and no immigrants in their leafy villages.

That's what Tory voters want ^

It's really that simple.

Truss is the Tory Corbyn.
