Newspaper reports as scathing as ever, and The Times suggesting Tories are lining up Sunak and Mordaunt as a duo.

can’t stand the woman but surely she’ll hold on for a bit longer - everyone was saying Boris would go much earlier than he did. And why on earth did they vote her into power in the first place 🙄

I have 2 questions.

If Truss resigns do we automatically get Coffey?

Who will play Truss in the docudrama?

She wouldn't automatically be prime minister like Raab wasn't. She'd step up like he did when Boris had covid.

There's an actress who'd fit the role perfectly and I can't think of her name or what I've seen her in!

citroenpresse · 14/10/2022 16:47

18 (out of over 350) Tory MPs went for Hunt in the first round of the leadership election. Some vote of confidence.

EstellaRijnveld · 14/10/2022 16:47

She has been promoted beyond her capabilities & it clearly shows; time for a general election. I'd have accepted Sunak just about but definitely not Penny 'TWAW' Mordaunt.

Why, are 'rich old white blokes' the only ones with a vote? Even in the Tory party?

Nearly two-thirds of Tory members — 63 per cent — are men, the research found, compared with just under half of the UK population, according to estimates by the Office for National Statistics.

While 83 per cent of voting-age adults in Great Britain identify as white British, the figure rises to 95 per cent among Tory members.

More than three quarters — 76 per cent — backed Brexit, against 52 per cent of voters as a whole. Truss, who backed Remain in 2016, has been determined to reposition herself as a champion of the “benefits of Brexit” and as prepared to stand up to Brussels.

About 80 per cent are thought to be “ABC1s”, the name of the highest-paid and most-educated demographic groups, compared with 53 per cent of the population.

Sunak has been very quiet, hasn't he? Smirking and making plans, no doubt.
Aye planning to fuck off to the USA no doubt.

Probably

Everyone agrees she was woeful
The conservatives must be worried , but will they let her struggle on or just cut their losses ?
They must be between a rock and a hard place

I read something online earlier that said the current polling predictions show a Labour win kf a GE was called right now and if the LibDems and SNP formed a coalition they would become the official opposition with the Conservatives in third place.

They're fucked no matter what they do - call a GE now and lose it, or limp on getting nothing meaningful accomplished and lose the GE in two years time.

Think its more a case now of when an early GE will be rather than if.

Benjispruce4 · 14/10/2022 17:11

What a mess!!! No confidence in her at all.

If they didn’t want her as leader, why did they let her get to the final 2?

My guess is that she was seen to be the easiest to manipulate. That and for the Tory faithful a middle aged white womanly was the lesser of two evils.

Mannymoomin · 14/10/2022 17:28

IMO this country is fucked for at least another generation, it’s all well and good having a GE, but when it comes down to it, it’ll probably take a generation to fix the mess that’s been created.

Our future is looking very bleak long term, as well as short term

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 14/10/2022 17:28

I forget the actual figures, but didn’t quite a good percentage of the Tory membership vote for Sunak?

the80sweregreat · 14/10/2022 17:29

I looked up 'actress that look like LT ' and it threw up Lewis Capaldi!
At least he could sing us the worst bits

@CrimsonThunder v good point, so they can keep on trotting out that line of ‘yes but we’ve had 3 women prime ministers, and a diverse cabinet’ ad infinitum whenever they’re challenged on the inequality caused by their policies.

larkstar · 14/10/2022 17:29

You can see the market reaction - MizTrusst started talking at 2:30pm. It's perhaps too early to tell but ATM - I'd guess it is unconvinced - she sacked Kwasi for doing what she asked him to do. If the market does not pick up in the next few days I think she will be forced to resign - TBH that's what I'm expecting.

More than expected. It was one of the closest outcomes I think.

I imagine they are all trying to persuade older politicians who plan to retire at the next GE to cobble a government together. The really ambitious ones will stay away and hope to return after a period of opposition.

Endlesssummer2022 · 14/10/2022 07:40

Does every Tory get a turn? Will it be Fabricant and Francois after Sunak?

This country is a fucking shit show.

Feels like it. It’s a bit like pass the parcel and whoever “wins” plays at being PM for a bit

QuebecBagnet · 14/10/2022 17:45

I mean I can’t stand Sunak but at least he seems a bit more clued up regarding the economy than the current shower.

MarshaBradyo · 14/10/2022 17:48

Sunak has the prediction of what would happen on his side - people saying he was right

Still, might not be back

girlmom21 · 14/10/2022 17:53

Why does Liz Truss always look like she's concentrating really hard on making sure she's walking properly? Grin

QuebecBagnet · 14/10/2022 17:55

I don’t know if he’ll be back. It might be a bit humiliating for him to have a ‘second go’ at the top job, especially when he lost to Liz Truss in the first place. And I don’t think politicians’ - and the electorate’s - memories are short enough to give him an easy ride. Added to that, the economy is falling apart at the seams. I think he’d be mad to try his luck at being PM again - but still, you never know!

BitOutOfPractice · 14/10/2022 18:02

Surely the Conservative party cannot look the electorate in the eye with a second PM with no electoral mandate? Surely even they are not that shameless?

jennakong · 14/10/2022 16:09

Why, are 'rich old white blokes' the only ones with a vote? Even in the Tory party?

Because they're the ones who have joined the tory party membership.

Anyone can pay the fee and become a member so it is theoretically possible that you could persuade a million tradional labour/lib dem/SNP/Green voters to join the tory Party officially and force change from the inside.

That might be the way to go actually, especially if they won't call an election, but I just don't know if I could ever bring myself to put money into a tory pocket.
