Newspaper reports as scathing as ever, and The Times suggesting Tories are lining up Sunak and Mordaunt as a duo.

can’t stand the woman but surely she’ll hold on for a bit longer - everyone was saying Boris would go much earlier than he did. And why on earth did they vote her into power in the first place 🙄

Well all those racists who voted for Brexit set this whole shit show in motion. You got what you voted for. Eat it

Well all those on the 'progressive' Left who spent two years calling those who voted for Brexit racist, and thus made the Labour party unelectable, which got us to the shit show we are now. You got what you sowed. Eat it.

Lol! Did you actually just try to blame Labour for Brexit?!!

Is that you, Liz?

Endlesssummer2022 · 14/10/2022 15:09

Not even ‘cut and paste Clav’ can defend this lot now.

SleeplessInEngland · 14/10/2022 15:09

To state the obvious, it's not sustainable to have a PM who's literally too afraid to talk the press. My guess is she's gone by december and Hunt becomes a caretaker for the interim.

Yeah, as others said, his/her heart was never in it when Truss arrived. Hard to do Labour whatboutery when they're 30 points ahead.

MissHavishamsMouldyOldCake · 14/10/2022 15:10

she's a goner

I posted about this pre Truss that the Tory’s would go for someone terrible, then when they cocked it all up hand over to Labour for the next 5 years which will be really shitty anyway as every other country is struggling to get up from Covid and Lockdowns.
Then when the world is starting to get on its feet again they are voted in again. Rescuing us from Labour.
Atm I don’t care for any party.
No one looks or sounds like a PM. To me we have a secretary v a couple of local authority planning officers than a PM and the Leader and Deputy Leader of the opposition

Bit hard on secretaries, that.

Gymnopedie · 14/10/2022 15:15

Three nights ago I dreamed that she'd gone, resigned. Let's hope I'm psychic.

Ken Clarke is still active in politics, he's in the HoL now. D'you think he could be persuaded...?

(I still believe that Clarke (Tory) and John Smith (Labour) are the two best prime ministers we never had.)

That what I was thinking re: Hunt.

For all he's an absolute bastard who completely fucked over the NHS, he's a Grown Up. He can do the competent statesman shtick, he appeals to the Tory fan base, and he's <vomit> likeable. Not in a "nice human being" way, of course, but likeable in the marketable sense of the word.

I wonder if she has chosen to appoint Hunt or if she's been made to appoint him and its definitely got an air of maneuvering the caretaker into place about it.

Witchlight · 14/10/2022 15:19

I really dislike the beauty queen style of response at the start of LT’s speech. “World peace and freedom ….. growth “ who doesn't want that? I don’t want to hear that she wants it, I want to hear how it is going to be achieved, what the cost is going to be and what is being put in place to mitigate the policies hardest hit. In summary I want a serious, competent, compassionate PM.

The Conservative party need to change their selection process - it isn’t working.

my suggestion is:

  1. Local party members can select their candidate with minimal interference from HO
  2. Elected MPs choose who they want to lead them or be PM.
  3. PM is replaced when 50% of MPs send in an anonymous note of no confidence in the PM
  4. whenever an election is called an anonymous ballot takes place.

This would work well for Labour too. it would get rid of the very undemocratic power of the party member and union elite having more power than everyone else.

anyone who voted for something as important as brexit because the “left” called them mean names shouldn’t be voting at all. Isnt that the reason we don’t allow children to vote? because grown adults are meant to be more mature in making such decisions.

How about ALAN Clarke as our next PM? Okay it would have to be in hologram form. But it worked with ABBA and Tupac.

BalsamicOnEverything · 14/10/2022 15:23

Clark not Clarke!

TheHouseonHauntedHill · 14/10/2022 15:25

I feel despair with them all.

However it is true that every countrys struggling.

It's not just us. We are just the nihalists enduring this revolving door of leader's!

MissHavishamsMouldyOldCake · 14/10/2022 15:27

It's great when a press conference makes a very shitty situation seem even more shit soaked.

Endlesssummer2022 · 14/10/2022 15:29

She’s been forced to bring in her eventual replacement. It’s about protecting the Conservative party now. Party first.

the80sweregreat · 14/10/2022 15:30

A hologram would be better

Itstheimplication · 14/10/2022 15:30

Is this u-turn actually going to make any difference to the people of this country? The ones who are in danger of losing their homes due to the crazy rates that have spiralled because of their utterly irresponsible mini budget?
I don't see how she can scapegoat KK like this when she TOLD us she would do all this if she became PM.
We're going to be a joke either way, I'd prefer to be a joke of a country without her as PM. She's not got any presence, any authority, anything to put your faith behind in ANY element of the job.

MissHavishamsMouldyOldCake · 14/10/2022 15:34

Nadine Dorries in talking sense for once shocker.

Will Liz Truss really last only 17 more days?
ThankYouVeryMuchGerry · 14/10/2022 15:38

The MPs let her get to the last two as they thought that no-one in their right mind would chose Truss over Sunak.

They forgot the demographic of the grass roots party who would never have chosen Sunak as he is not white. This isn't me stirring up and being racist, this is what all of the grass roots Tories I know have said ( I myself don't vote Tory but seem to know a lot of paid up Tory lunatics!)

Novum · 14/10/2022 15:39

EmmaH2022 · 14/10/2022 09:04

I still find that odd, being removed five minutes after surviving a no confidence vote. My local MP has a really weird reason for wanting to walk away from Johnson’s govt as well.

Not really odd, when you factor in that after surviving a no-confidence vote he still totally fucked up on the Pincher issue and then sent his minions out to lie for him. Anyone else would have learnt to tread carefully having got that close to disaster, but Johnson thought he was too clever for that.

LobeliaBaggins · 14/10/2022 15:40

Not been able to do any work all afternoon watching this car crash. The way she fled like a scared schoolgirl!

Sunak has been very quiet, hasn't he? Smirking and making plans, no doubt.

Well the ones I know refused to vote for Sunak because of his foul ups re Covid support, grants & loans. Also the way he back-stabbed Boris to cause the leadership election. He's toast and won't be making a come back.

Aggrieved over the ‘back stabbing’ to the extent that they’d shoot themselves in the foot?

Clever

Blaming the opposition for this shitshow is utterly laughable. I can only assume that’s a very poor attempt at satire.

Sunak, Gove , Mordaunt , I bet they are busy recruiting a few new friends on their side
