To think they've made a mess of my DD's hair? Pics included

DD (3.5) had lovely long dark hair which almost reached her bum, she loved it long as she said it made her feel pretty. She loves me styling it in different ways, fish tail plaits etc.

Her fringe was getting too long and the ends needed a trim so OH took her to the hairdressers this afternoon. I told him to make sure they don't take off any more than 2 inches.

This is what she came home like, see pictures attached.

DD is upset and is adamant she hates it dispite me trying to reassure her that she looks beautiful and that her hair will grow back longer and stronger.

I'm really upset about this, largely because DD is upset but ffs just look at it. It isn't even straight.

Do you know exactly what your OH wants from a barber ?

BloobryMuffin · 13/10/2022 21:05

I would take her back, get a refund and leave it. It doesn’t really matter that it’s wonky if it’s not bothering her, and it’ll upset her more to get more cut off.

FatKyle · 13/10/2022 21:07

Beautiful hair. It is wonky though and badly cut.

CosyDarkNights · 13/10/2022 21:14

My god don't take her back to the same place, take her somewhere where they can actually cut hair (your own hairdresser who you know can cut hair). I've never seen such a bad cut, I trimmed my daughters hair in lockdown and managed to cut it straight that's with 0 experience hairdressing!! How did they even manage this?

NoSquirrels · 13/10/2022 18:06

Did he take her to a proper hairdresser, one who understands small kids don’t always sit still?

Or did he take her to the local barber he uses, who probably aren’t skilled at long hair?

As a barber, you do have to do cuts on long hair as part of your training..

silverbubbles · 13/10/2022 21:22

She has gorgeous hair but it's a bad cut. It is just a hair cut though and at least she has plenty of hair.

Just go back and get it straightened up.

DisforDarkChocolate · 13/10/2022 21:32

What did he do, cut it to sell. That's the only explanation for having so much cut off. And it's wonky!!

SeenYourArse · 13/10/2022 21:33

DEMAND A REFUND AND DO NOT ALLOW anyone in that salon to touch her hair with scissors and im saying that as a hairstylist!

Forfukzsake · 13/10/2022 21:35

I don't think it is bad. It's certainly better than hair down to her bum.

Dibbydoos · 13/10/2022 21:38

Awful. Why was she left there or couldn't you see?

I would play merry hell with them. Firstly it needs straightening, secondly they've taken off a hell of a lot more than 2". How horrible some hair dressers are.

Poor DD.

Wiccan · 13/10/2022 21:39

What's wrong with having hair to your bum?

DizzyR · 13/10/2022 21:41

The hair has not been cut well at all but her hair is absolutely gorgeous and it will grow back longer and stronger in no time at all.

I hope she is ok and I hope you get a refund. I wouldn’t let the same hairdresser near it again though.

MissFancyDay · 13/10/2022 21:42

It's lovely hair and will look very nice when cut straight. I hope you told her that she will look very pretty with her hair that length.

Mumwithbaggage · 13/10/2022 21:47

Refund and go somewhere else. If new haircut costs more I'd be asking for that to be covered too. If not I'd be very tempted to leave lots of bad reviews on SM.

GreenManalishi · 13/10/2022 21:59

I wouldn't let them touch it again. I reckon whoever has cut this has been unable to get it straight, and taken several goes to even it up, losing a couple inches each time before giving up.

Tie it up, take her somewhere reputable.

Cheeseandcrackers86 · 13/10/2022 22:35

Sorry OP I know you keep getting asked this but are you sure DH actually took her to the hairdresser's? I would be going in and demanding a refund purely to verify this as this does not look like a professional haircut. Your dd will be beautiful no matter what and she'll get used to it. I have gone to the hairdresser's having very thick, frizzy hair after months not having it chopped and they've never had to take more than an inch or so off so I don't buy the story about the split ends. Either DH isn't being entirely honest or the stylist knew they were hopeless and needed an excuse to cut tonnes off. I think you need to delve further into the mystery then report back to your mumsnet following x

Longdistance · 13/10/2022 22:39

That cut is in the wonk. It’s like Stevie Wonder was let loose with a pair of hair dressing scissors, though I think he’d do a better job of it. Sorry 😳

You must be having a laugh. It’s not even straight!

MylittleDD · 13/10/2022 23:34

I'm certain he took her to a hairdressers yes though I know it beggars belief after seeing the hair. He made the appointment on the phone right infront of me.

The place is a small independent salon just down the road. I've only ever seen the owner working in there when I pass (frequently) so I don't think she actually has any other stylists under her.

And he somehow didn’t notice that it was lopsided? He didn’t bother to actually look at her hair?

God knows. I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt that he didn't notice how bad it was before they left the hairdressers, but he's the type of person who absolutely hates to make a fuss and complain so will put up with shit service just so he doesn't have to.

A three year old shouldn't even be aware of feeling pretty or not.

Context is everything, read my subsequent posts where I've spoken about how her long hair made her feel like disney princess.

I think it will look fine once it's straight. And her hair must grow very quickly if it was bum length at 3. The length it is now is lovely, and still long enough for lots of different styles.
