To think they've made a mess of my DD's hair? Pics included

DD (3.5) had lovely long dark hair which almost reached her bum, she loved it long as she said it made her feel pretty. She loves me styling it in different ways, fish tail plaits etc.

Her fringe was getting too long and the ends needed a trim so OH took her to the hairdressers this afternoon. I told him to make sure they don't take off any more than 2 inches.

This is what she came home like, see pictures attached.

DD is upset and is adamant she hates it dispite me trying to reassure her that she looks beautiful and that her hair will grow back longer and stronger.

I'm really upset about this, largely because DD is upset but ffs just look at it. It isn't even straight.

Why are men so utterly useless in every single way.

OP I'm tempted to say this is a classic case of weaponised incompetence. I'd have HIM take her back to fix HIS mistake. You would never have left with her looking like that.

This subject should not be used as an all out attack on OPs husband ( HIM ) it happens just a bad hairdresser not a bad husband , Really .

Calandor · 13/10/2022 20:18

Sorry just read update. Sounds like it's your husbands fault then. He can insist on just 2in he just likely felt out of his depth and the hairdresser thought you wanted all damage removed. don't let him take her again as clearly he can't hack it.

purplecorkheart · 13/10/2022 20:18

I would ask for a refund. Are you certain it was a salon he took her too or did he bring her to a salon that is actually a front for money laundering and the staff are actually not hairdressers.

WTAF are you talking about ?!

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 13/10/2022 20:21

Yeah that's an awful cut. It will be lovely when it's straight though.

I have 4 boys, I can assure pp that some boys, even young ones do actually care what their hair looks like!

Wiccan · 13/10/2022 20:25

Jesus , what is it on this site with taking a basic subject and then making the subject an all out attack on husband's . OPs husband didn't cut DD hair ! What is wrong with you people !

Frequency · 13/10/2022 20:26

It looks like she wasn't sitting straight in the chair. The stylist should not have let her leave like that but it's an easy mistake to make. I always make young children stand when I cut their hair because it is almost impossible to get them to sit straight since their feet rarely touch the ground.

LadyApplejack · 13/10/2022 20:27

The cut's very uneven. The hair is beautiful, how lucky is she to have so much at 3.5!!! I'm so jealous. Yes it's much shorter but she's blessed, it'll soon grow. Personally I really dislike super long bum-length hair - thick or thin, straight or curly, hair always looks better and healthier at a more normal length. Can see why DD is disappointed, it's gutting at any age when the hairdresser takes off more than you wanted!

Whinge · 13/10/2022 20:27

Yes she likes having long hair because it makes her feel like Rapunzel, make of that what you will.

Has she seen Tangled? Rapunzel ended up with short hair, so now she's had her hair cut she's even more like Rapunzel.

Itsallyellow22 · 13/10/2022 20:31

Yes, it's wonky. Yes your husband is stupid for paying. No, that's not the most depressing thing about this post

This.

It looks like they've done it with safety scissors. I've arranged for her to go back tomorrow morning and have it rectified but I'm not sure I even want them to touch it after the mess they've already made of it. I'm considering asking for a refund and then taking her elsewhere.

Oh bless her! I'm sure once it's been straightened and the ends feathers maybe it will look beautiful and thick and healthy!
Personally I'd ask for a refund and find a children's fund hairdressers because it sounds like she's a bit upset so you want to try and make this next experience really fun for her!

ilovesushi · 13/10/2022 20:34

Oh bless her, no wonder she was upset! I remember having really long hair in primary and I would have been beside myself if I'd had it all lopped off with no warning. That said she has got gorgeous shiny hair and it will look amazing once it's evened out and will grow back before she knows it!

Scrambler4 · 13/10/2022 20:34

As your little girl is already upset I won’t take her with you for the initial chat with the manager. Show them the photo and tell them you are furious at the shoddy unprofessional hair cut.

If the manager can assure you that her hair will be sorted by a skilled stylist take her back , let them sort it and demand a refund to compensate for the upset. If they are unwilling to cooperate and put things right tell them the photo and details will be posted on the local Facebook.

Your little girl has beautiful thick, healthy hair. I hope it will soon be sorted out to your satisfaction.

Definitely do that!
It’s on the slosh, The ends looked chopped like with shears, no attempt to soften the ends.

Iknowforsure1 · 13/10/2022 20:38

Hair length is a part of a person’s identity. My daughter loves her long hair. Not because it makes her more “beautiful” (short hair haircuts are beautiful too!), but because that’s who she is and she likes herself with long hair. I find this thread really bizarre. Not a big deal? Go cut your hair into a wonky pixie and see how you care. Hair will grow, obviously (OP’s daughter’s hair is strong), however it’s not always the case. I had this experience being a teen and I never got my hair back for multiple reasons.

SquashesPumpkinsAutumnBliss · 13/10/2022 20:39

I would ask for a refund and go elsewhere. And avoid the temptation to post on social media a “ my child went to hairdresser XYZ and look at this - anyone recommend a hairdresser who can cut in a straight line.” Though I would be tempted!

your DD has beautiful hair, and with a trim to straighten it it can grow long again!

Pseudonymminymie · 13/10/2022 20:40

I had a shockingly shorter than expected haircut when I was in my early twenties ( although it was short short hair which I just wanted tidied up and ended up with almost no hair)! Buying a few nice hair grips etc helped a bit while I waited for it to grow out. Maybe that would help your DD? I never let hairdressers near my ( now shoulder length) hair these days...

oakleaffy · 13/10/2022 20:41

I do think some hairdressers are hopeless with long hair.
As a child I had thick long wavy blond hair and a hairdresser daughter of one of dad’s clients cut it to jaw length and I was absolutely horrified.
Took years to grow back.
I sympathise with your Daughter - Definitely complain!

AloysiusBear · 13/10/2022 20:45

Its not straight. It looks they've cut it as a ponytail bunch and then just left it. I'd complain about that for sure.

But she's 3, her hair really doesn't matter and you shouldn't encourage her to think it does.

maybe it's not such a good thing that she's already so invested in her hair being her "beauty" at such a young age. I'm sure she's just as beautiful with shorter hair

This. A child of 3 really should not give a flying fuck about their hair except that its not in their eyes or whatever (i say this as the mother of a 3 y old girl).

Absolutely true.
My DS as a child was given a hideous’Buzz cut’ ( First time at Barbers on his own)and came home and actually cried saying “ I look like a thug”

Thankfully, it didn’t take long to grow out.
Boys definitely do care about hair.

NGCO · 13/10/2022 20:51

How can they even think that ok? Don't get the same shop to fix it

ittakes2 · 13/10/2022 20:55

i am guessing your husband prefers her hair shorter? There is no way a hairdresser would cut this much off without permission. I am guessing that is why he doesn’t want you to go back about the crookedness. But go back you must but ask for someone else!

Nimello · 13/10/2022 20:56

OP, if it's any consolation, my toddler DD had absolutely gorgeous red hair which reached her bottom. It needed a bit of tidying up. Her very slightly older brother evidently heard us talking about it, as he kindly did the job for us with some craft scissors very early one morning. DD came toddling in to tell us with great excitement. All her hair was on their landing, and she looked like a plucked chicken. It took a couple of years for it to grow back in its full glory - but grow back it did.

All that aside, I wouldn't really encourage a 3 yo to think about her hair in terms of whether it's "pretty". She might come to that conclusion anyway as a result of cultural influences, but it's not something to impress on her.

Benjispruce4 · 13/10/2022 20:57

At that age I used to cut my DD’s hair myself. Even I did better than that. Beautiful thick hair for her age. Hope you get it rectified.

Wiccan · 13/10/2022 21:02

Iwonder08 · 13/10/2022 19:10

Why are you not furious with your OH? Why didn't he interfere when they were chopping it off? Why didn't he say something at the hairdressers that the haircut is very uneven parking aside too short?

Because men don't do there little girls hair !
