What would your DH do?

You've just learned that you've been fast tracked for cancer screening due to post menopausal bleeding. Would your DH stay at home to keep you company because you're obviously down, or would he go to the pub with his mates?

I had this happen. We just carried on our normal life while I waited for the appointment . It turned out I had a small polyp which was painlessly snipped off and my HRT needed tweaking too. I didn’t expect DH to mope about with me,

Astrabees - good for you.

Wow - sorry OP. My husband would ask me whether I wanted him to stay or whether he should go.
He wouldn't be bothered if I said I wanted him to stay and would run me a bath and put the kids to bed

My wife had a cancerous growth on her face, I took out a bank loan so we could go private. Not because I'm some sort of hero husband but because it was the right thing to do and she needed my support. Shame on ops husband for not supporting her.

So he woke up, came downstairs and worked out pretty quickly that I was maximum level pissed off with him. He is now suitably apologetic and mortified, and has gone to the shop for wine.

At least he knows how to apologise!
The wine, I mean. Not the words Grin

ItSeesMe · 20/10/2022 19:49

It's getting better - there is now a takeaway on order.

Flowers I had exactly this a couple of weeks ago - DP was supportive and kind and came along to the appointment with me (albeit they wouldn't let him wait with me but he waited in the car so I didn't have to drive)

I'm sorry that he has been a bit useless.

Wow, I wish I was as strong and independent as you @Astrabees

No, on second thoughts I'm human and can empathise with other people.

What a dickhead response

But I'm sure that was your aim.

Hope you are ok OP Flowers

I'm so very sorry he's being so bloody useless and uncaring. I had breast cancer in 2010, and mine stuck to me like glue, which I didn't expect, but very much appreciated. He then became my carer (long lasting side effects and stuff)Now I have a lesion on my lung and a really bad cough, for which I've had scans. Just waiting on follow up CT to see if it's grown or shrunk. He's doing everything for me to the point of my utter exasperation.. but to show that he cares is what I love the most. I hope your fella pulls his finger out and starts to cherish you as he should. Wishing for good news for you. xx

HangryFeminist · 20/10/2022 20:15

Sorry Op, I hope your results come back ok. Do you think he’s in denial slightly if his Mum died of cancer? My DP is a wonderful man but definitely likes to bury his head a bit with big issues.

TempNameChangexx · 20/10/2022 20:28

If your "D"H is anything like my ex, he'd first laugh and then fuck off down the pub with his mates...
And that's one of the reasons why he is an ex....

StickofVeg · 20/10/2022 20:29

So sorry to hear your news OP. As you ask I have to say DP would stay at home (but then I can't remember the last time he went to a pub or out in the evening without me).

That make you feel good, did it? Unbelievable.

I’m so glad for you that it was something easily fixed and let’s hope that it’s the same for the OP. But let’s be honest here, the fact that it never occurred to you or your DH that he might provide you with some emotional support during a potentially worrying time is not the positive that you seem to think it is.
