Was recently blocked twice for a promotion as someone was going on maternity leave and they said it would mean them having to recruit someone in my place which would have been too costly. Found this fairly unethical due to the fact that I was a perfect fit for the promotion and I'm getting into debt due to cost of living m. Have been bullied at work and was told to pull my socks up when dealing with poor mental health due to DV. After multiple attempts for promotion, I decided I would leave, and have been offered an amazing job, twice the income, and current manager is now telling me how disappointed she is in me. Two weeks to go and I couldn't give a fig. Onwards and upwards! Anyone want to celebrate with me? Had a horrific week and am feeling very positive :) AIBU to be absolutely loving this?!

Not at all unreasonable, you should absolutely love every bit of it! Crap management deserves all it gets. Well done!

Well done for making the decision to leave and have a new job to go to.
Just do what you need to do, don't give the boss anything to bad mouth you when you are gone. I am a great believer in karma! This will bite them on the bum in a huge way!!!

I’d be telling said manager how disappointed you are that you have been forced to find work elsewhere due to their disgraceful handling of multiple situations, their shocking behaviour & their blatant lack of support & compassion when you needed it!
You owe them nothing & to be honest if you have anything in e-mails or recordings about any if their transgressions you need to take those things further!

I once had a boss that said my mother would be disappointed in me.
I was 19, a carer and was leaving to join the RAF. My mum was supportive with everything I did.
Long story short I ended up walking out because of my boss's nastiness. Never joined the RAF but instead went on to uni to get a first class degree and living my best life.
Massive congratulations on your new job! Enjoy!

Good for you, and thanks for sharing - lovely to hear some good news as we go into the fray for one more week 😁

Hopefully you get an exit interview and get to share your reasons and experience with them. It does astonish me the way some employers expect this blind emotional loyalty like family that clearly isn’t reciprocal in the way they treat their people. Time for a wake up call! Great job OP!

@Georgeskitchen you best me to it! I was going to say spill some prawns behind the fridge on your last day at work.
Well done and hope you're having a leaving party.

I have been in a bit of a bad mood in the past few days but your story really cheers me up. Well done, really pleased for you !!

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 17/10/2022 09:45

Ah that's brilliant OP, congratulations!

If manager mentions being disappointed again, you should say something about how you were disappointed not to be promoted, so you know how she feels, but the best way to deal with disappointment is to move forward, as you have done by getting your new job, and look to the future. Accompanied by a smile and head tilt.
