to think that if curry with na'an is fine then so is curry on toast?

Although judging by the reactions I received at work, you would think not!

Got to work and colleague said "Sorry if I whiff of garlic, had pizza for lunch" and I said "oh I had curry on toast so I wont notice anyway!" and made a joke about us being left alone as we were both stinky.

The look on her face! She genuinely was appalled at the idea of curry on toast. So I asked if she has curry with na'an bread and she said that that was different.

I am not seeing the issue here. Apart from anything else, the crunchy toast is a nice contrast to the curry texture so is preferable imo, plus left over curry the next day always tastes better than when it is made fresh.

AIBU?!

Ive never heard of mince on toast.

Im not opposed to it but never heard of it.

@bellac11

Mince on toast sounds weird, but it's sloppy joes, which are tasty

ohhelldoi · 10/10/2022 19:15

Chilli on toast is one of my very favourite dinners, soooooo tasty

asblindasabat · 10/10/2022 19:18

Well, I mean, I certainly wouldn’t like ‘curry-on-toast’ and I don’t think you can compare it to naan bread as that just isn’t the same thing.

But, I’m going to say YANBU.

if you like curry on toast, then work away!

EmmaDilemma5 · 10/10/2022 19:20

I'd eat curry on anything! But would def choose naan over toast. It's chewier and more substantial

scrivette · 10/10/2022 19:21

Vegetable curry on toast is great, so is mince curry on toast, especially if it has potatoes in it. Carbs and carbs - delicious.

My family are Indian and they are nothing wrong with curry on toast for breakfast.

IthinkIsawahairbrushbackthere · 10/10/2022 19:21

Onion bagels with mince are delicious.

If curry with bread is your thing you need to try bunny chow (no rabbits need be harmed in the making!). I think I might have to do it for dinner one night this week when DH is at work.

MrJollyLivesNextDoor · 10/10/2022 19:24

Mmm lush

I do hope you had grated cheese on top 😋

MrJollyLivesNextDoor · 10/10/2022 19:26

Leftover curry also works well with leftover mash

As does bolognaise

Singlebutmarried · 10/10/2022 19:31

I’ve never tried this. But it sounds wonderful.

I usually chuck any left over saag aloo in an omlette.

bloody delicious

onlythreenow · 10/10/2022 19:35

It sounds lovely OP, and I've had it myself. All these people saying it is revolting, get over yourself. Toast and naan are both bread, so why is one okay and the other not? Some people seem to think they are "superior" for absolutely no reason at all.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 10/10/2022 19:37

Oh my goodness gracious me! Curry on toast! How uncouth.

We always have ours served in a freshly baked baguette.

OperaStation · 10/10/2022 19:37

I had leftover curry on toast for lunch. How’s it anymore rediculous that beans or eggs on toast?

Myhusbandsnores · 10/10/2022 22:20

Sainsbury’s coronation chicken on toast Is yum!

Thenightcircus · 10/10/2022 22:22

Never had it or heard of it but DH and I want to try it!

bread is bread! 😋

Begoniasforever · 10/10/2022 22:23

Actually this is delicious. Lovely buttery bread the curry soaks in, its really nice. It also works with bolognaise, chilli etc.

Bestcatmum · 10/10/2022 22:23

You should be made to walk the plank OP. Id probably eat it though.

ThinWomansBrain · 10/10/2022 22:39

i might eat curry WITH toast if I didn't have nan bread and couldn't be bothered to cook rice - but not on it.

But I'd eat curry with rather than on nan bread,
what sort of curry was it?

I want Peshwari nan now 😆

FiveMins · 10/10/2022 22:42

I absolutely love curry on toast. 20 odd years ago I moved to a bit of Manchester with amazing curry houses. Every Sunday we would get a beautiful curry for about £10 for 4 of us and lunch would be curry on toast. Everyone on my office thought I was mental until they ate it.

Begoniasforever · 10/10/2022 22:46

Folks need to remember it’s on toast, not with toast, the butter goes into the curry, and the curry soaks into the bread, you eat it like you’d eat beans on toast.

PyongyangKipperbang · 10/10/2022 23:04

Chicken Jalfreizi (sp?) for those that asked.

I used to write the menus at work and had the apostrophe drilled into me (by an english chef) so its second nature. No idea if its wrong or right!

And mince on toast....NO. But...thats because as a child in the 70's mince featured heavily and mince was the cheapest meat, there wasnt the % fat options like there is now. So it had gristle in it which made me retch and vomit and I would refuse to eat it. MY mother, being of that generation, would make us force it down or serve it cold the next day for breakfast. It wasnt until my sister and I started losing weight that she stopped trying the "if they are hungry enough then they will eat it" idea. So no to the mince.

OP posts:
Goingonab33hunt · 10/10/2022 23:15

No naan definitely has no apostrophe.

Asian here and bread is eaten with any curry at my house if no chapati/rice is available though DC will grumble as it's 'not proper food'. Weirdly toast is only eaten with one particular dhal (never on). And toasties are only ever made using mince curry or spinach/potato curry. I understand we're very particular though.

TheOriginalEmu · 10/10/2022 23:24

RinseBlue · 10/10/2022 18:26

Why are you adding an apostrophe in the word naan? It normally denotes a 'break' in the word but naan is not pronounced 'na-Arn', its just 'nArn'.

i completely agree, it’s naan.
BUT
Don’t stick an R in there to denote the long ahh sound… it’ll set off the whole rhotic v non-rhotic English debate that drives me wild, where rhotic speakers say there’s no R in naan, which there isn’t, but non-rhotic speakers often use one to describe the long ahh and then my head implodes because no one listens when i explain. 😂

PyongyangKipperbang · 10/10/2022 23:31

I pronounce it Nan.

Is that wrong too? British born Midlander if that makes a difference!

chickywoo · 10/10/2022 23:34

It’s absolutely fine, we eat curry with home made chapatis when I can’t be arsed to
make any dough or get flour all over the hob, if it’s just me, I butter slices of bread and cook them on a pan,
curry with toast voila 😉

Literally had this about 20 mins ago. Lime pickle rules all

Try leftover cauliflower cheese and lime pickle on toast. It will blow your mind.
