to think that if curry with na'an is fine then so is curry on toast?

Although judging by the reactions I received at work, you would think not!

Got to work and colleague said "Sorry if I whiff of garlic, had pizza for lunch" and I said "oh I had curry on toast so I wont notice anyway!" and made a joke about us being left alone as we were both stinky.

The look on her face! She genuinely was appalled at the idea of curry on toast. So I asked if she has curry with na'an bread and she said that that was different.

I am not seeing the issue here. Apart from anything else, the crunchy toast is a nice contrast to the curry texture so is preferable imo, plus left over curry the next day always tastes better than when it is made fresh.

AIBU?!

Toast = Bread
Na'an = Bread

Not the same no, but not miles away. I just dont see why one type of bread is ok and another is "revolting"!

Because toast is crispy and doesn't go nicely like a naan bread. Honestly the thought just makes me feel ill.

ParentallyUnprepared · 10/10/2022 18:16

Hard pass from me.

Nippynopnop · 10/10/2022 18:17

I can just see the next"whats for tea" thread, can't you?
Monday special "curry on toast"

Pinkandgreentrousers · 10/10/2022 18:17

I have curry and rice sandwiches.

satelliteheart · 10/10/2022 18:19

Dh always eats any leftover curry on toast the next day. In fact he'll purposefully save some to have on toast. He's the first person I know who does it but it didn't strike me as particularly odd at all. Like you say, no different to naan. And curry without naan is just criminal so I completely understand the need to substitute it if there's no naan left

Indian family here. My family and lots of others eat curry with toast. Naan isn't the go.ti, it's quite heavy. Normally it's chaparral, naan is more with fancy stuff like chicken tikka and seekh kebabs.
I'll have a chicken curry with bread, pitta bread or Chapatti. Never with a naan.

Same here. It's a great way to use up leftover curry.

Also, look up pau bhaji. It's an Indian curry that is always eaten with a bread roll. No naans in sight!

HRTQueen · 10/10/2022 18:19

nan or roti is used to scoop up the curry It’s not a dry slightly crunchy base to have curry on

but if you like it op what does it matter but it’s not the same or similar

TheGirlWhoLived · 10/10/2022 18:20

I put my curry in a wrap. Sometimes a kebab wrap. And SOMETIMES in a naan wrap

HRTQueen · 10/10/2022 18:21

we never have this (Asian family)

bit we do dip toast into tea which seems strange to my English side of family and friends

bellac11 · 10/10/2022 18:22

And because everything is better with cheese on top, it has to be curry on toast with cheese on top

Yum

Perennis · 10/10/2022 18:22

Pav bhaji is one of my favourite foods and that's basically curry on a toasted bap. A local curry shop serves it with naan instead of the bap, presumably because most of us ignorant Brits are confused by the authentic version.

Cas112 · 10/10/2022 18:23

Is this real?

Getoff · 10/10/2022 18:24

Mince on toast is something many people have eaten at some point in their life. I wonder if any of the disgusted people would only eat that as long as no curry powder had been added to the mince.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 10/10/2022 18:24

I would happily eat curry with any sort of bread, but not toasted bread. I think it's the texture and also crumbs. I don't think I'd like crumbs in my curry (no dry crumbs with naan) but absolutely I'd mop it up with any soft bread YUM!

TheWolves · 10/10/2022 18:24

I've had it! It's delicious. YADNBU.

Why are you adding an apostrophe in the word naan? It normally denotes a 'break' in the word but naan is not pronounced 'na-Arn', its just 'nArn'.

DragonflyNights · 10/10/2022 18:27

If i’m having leftover curry and i’ve run out of naan I do cheese on toast and have it with that. It’s very nice!

RosieRainbow1986 · 10/10/2022 18:27

I don't think YABU op! I've never thought to try toast with curry...might give it a go! I think I'd prefer a naan because it's softer and can properly mop up with it! But you enjoy your curry on toast!! :-)

DrNo007 · 10/10/2022 18:27

I have it often.

I like curry. And I like toast. But curry on toast is outrageous!

Not revolting, but morally wrong Grin

Ifyou feel ill because someone else eats one kind of bread with curry instead of another, you have serious food issues.
